Eddie 2002 Posted December 1, 2025 Report Posted December 1, 2025 Hello everybody the title pretty much says it all. I just joined after resurrecting a Rexon 15-inch scroll saw which has been sitting in my shop for years. I know it's the bottom of the barrel as scroll saws go but we all need to start somewhere. It was free and it seems to be cutting fine after a little tune-up. Going to need some simple patterns to start with. Have plenty of cedar fence slats and pine cut offs to practice with till I get a handle on what I'm doing. Archer 1 Quote
Dan Posted December 1, 2025 Report Posted December 1, 2025 Welcome to the Village! The pattern library on this site is a lot of good starter patterns. Since it's Christmas season maybe start making a few ornaments. Have fun and be sure to show us what you make. Eddie 2002 1 Quote

Wichman Posted December 2, 2025 Report Posted December 2, 2025 Welcome to the Village from SE Idaho I agree with Scrappile, Steve Good's site is great. But it's not 100's of patterns, it's 1,000's ( over 5,000 and counting) 52 minutes ago, Scrappile said: Glad to have you. preprius Posted December 2, 2025 Report Posted December 2, 2025 Entry tools are good to feel the basics and to see if you like the intricacy work. I started wiyh a cheesy starter saw. Mine also was in the garage for 11yrs. I said I will join this village and to really see what this tool can do. These guys can cut some beautiful stuff. They helped me thru my begineers frustrations. They also helped with with cheesy saw limitations. After 4 months of entry saw frustrations it was time for me to get a better saw or stop scrolling. @OCtoolguy he helped me find a great used saw and everyone else helped me get better. It has been 4yrs for me and i really enjoy this hobby. take a look at galleries and ask questions. Me.Mark Eason OCtoolguy and Eddie 2002 2 Quote
JackJones Posted December 2, 2025 Report Posted December 2, 2025 Welcome to the village. Wear a mask when cutting cedar. The cedar dust always gives me a bad reaction. Eddie 2002 and OCtoolguy 2 Quote

It's nothing fancy, just runs off an old vacuum cleaner piped with PVC under the saw table. JackJones 1 Quote
Eddie 2002 Posted December 6, 2025 Author Report Posted December 6, 2025 Thanks for the warm welcome. Move up from Florida two years ago to New Jersey and finally have had the time to get my shop together. It's getting cold here and need to get my propane heater fired up. Quote

Randyw81 Posted December 13, 2025 Report Posted December 13, 2025 Yes, it's colder than usual for this early in the season. The only heat in my shop is a small propane heater close to the saw. I'm trying to get some Christmas ornaments finished. I just need to work on them in much shorter sessions. Quote
