Mike42 Posted March 26 Report Posted March 26 Hello to everyone. I'm from western Virginia, and I actually joined a few months ago and meant to introduce myself then but got sidetracked with other projects. I've been getting into woodworking in general in the last year or so, and last fall started practicing on an old dremel scroll saw that was passed down to me. I really enjoyed it but the saw wasn't that great and it took 3 inch pinned blades, so I decided to buy the Bauer scroll saw from HF.That's actually how I came across this site, I was looking for reviews of the HF saw online before I purchased it. I haven't made anything very complex so far, just some little ornaments for the wife to paint and a simple bird house, although I've got a whole stack of things I want to make on my wish list. I've mostly been working with plywood and pine although I want to move into other types of wood. I've seen some of the patterns that people have made on here and in some woodworking books I've read and its amazing to me what a scroll saw can do. I'm here to learn as much as I can about scroll sawing, get inspiration and patterns and hopefully meet some nice people. Oh and have fun making sawdust. If there's anything anyone would like to know feel free to ask. Scrappile 1 Quote

garryatpa Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 Hi Mike.. Welcome to the village where you will meet people that can help you and answer most of your questions. I too started out using a Dremel with 3 inch pin end blades. I wanted to do more detailed work so it didn't take long to switch to a saw that used pinless blades - A Delta 15 inch single speed saw which I used until I wore out the bushings in the arms and after replacing the arms I gathered as much info as possible and purchased a Hegner 22 variable speed saw which I still use after close to 35 years . As you have learned so far, you can saw an unending list of materials and make beautiful items. I have sawn wood, plexiglass, paper, bone, antler, thin metals, and more. So let the dust fly and enjoy a hobby that will last a lifetime. Garry Quote
