I can't believe I keep on trying to get this thing figured out, but I will get it some day if I do not give up. I think I am able to make my portraits resemble the person enough to tell who it is but some of the details are hard for me to pick up on.. This one is of my newest great grandson. His aunt took the photo of him last week and posted it on Facebook a couple of days ago. the Quality of the photo was good enough that I just had to give it a try. I text a photo of the pattern to his mother, and ask her for her honest opinion. She said, 'It looks just like him', so I told her I would go ahead and cut it for her. An hour later is was all cut and today I made the backer board for one, (I double cut it) and put the other one in a frame. She will be in Arizona the last of June to celebrate her birthday at her mother and father's house. We will miss the event because we are going to be in Oregon. This is her first child. Her husband is in Army Special Forces and will be deployed the middle of June, so he also will not be there for her birthday Dick heppnerguy

Here is the problem, in my opinion, what is law and right in the U.S. is not the same in other countries, We have members here from many parts the the world.... I have friends in other parts of the world that, send me things that in America, would not be acceptable do to our copy right laws (patterns for one) this happens often. What to do??? If I may add, it must be very difficult to an owner of a forum to police what is posted. Words use or not in America are not offensive in other parts of the world...... and visa versa.

Possible copyright issue. If you draw your own using the basic premise that would be ok. Otherwise you need to ask the designer . Fredfret

Hummm, easy for me, I'm, so far, not smart enough to make a pattern of anything so all are safe.

Curious as to what the consensus is in the community. Someone posts a project, you like it, so you take a screen shot, play around and make a pattern from it, and cut it. Good, bad, indifferent?

After the threat of a rainy holiday weekend, we dodged the bullet and had great weather yesterday (and today). Week #1 of the farmers market went very well. Big crowd, lots of vendors and I broke a personal record selling 42 puzzles during the 8am - 1pm event. I've averaged 27 each week the past 2 years (about 24 weeks). Next week I'm going to experiment by not taking my "kids puzzles" that I sell at half the price of my signature puzzles. I simply need the table space now that I've expanded the sea critter collection so much with several new CAROLINA BEACH and KURE BEACH options. I enjoy making the kids puzzles, they're quick and easy and they are a bit sentimental in that they are what I started scrolling for my grand-daughter. But I want to see how it goes without them for a couple of weeks.

Sure, ask would be the moral thing to do. However, whenever I post a pic of of a puzzle I designed, I automatically assume it might be copied. Actually a compliment. I would only be concerned if the copier sold the puzzle online or at craft shows. Now that indeed would be theft of intellectual property for personal gain. If that happened I would be quite entertained by making life miserable for the culprit. The first call would be to my cousin Vinnie. He has experience in breaking kneecaps. bb

I don't do that from someones photo... but... I do buy patterns and make my own twist on the design... such as.. This bass fishing clock.. photo below.. It's Sue Meys pattern from the Fishing themed Christmas ornament patterns.. I enlarged the pattern.. took another clock pattern and inserted the enlarged bass ornament pattern in place of what was originally designed .. When I do this.. I still give credit to Sue and the other designer in this case I didn't know the other designer.. but regardless I do give credit and say it was modified by me.. I do this type of stuff all the time... but never from a photo of someone else's work.. at least without asking.. if I really want to cut it.. In fact.. I've asked several designers about combining patterns to make my own twist on them such as described above and all that I've talked to had no problem with it as long as I gave the credit..

Fish, This Ted's Woodworking plans is an insidious web site. Like you, I got trapped on his site and one time actually sat through his whole boring spiel. No mater how you try to leave, it goes back to his page like an endless loop. He will even tag onto other wood working sites on various search engines. The only way I could get out of it was to open the task bar window and close out the internet explorer. This guy is a plague and the IP should shut him down. As to your computer, there is a long winded process to get your files back and I have had to do this before. My computer had "The Blue Screen of Death" and there was no way of bringing it back. I had had it for a while and decided to upgrade. Each time one of my computers have died, I purchased a adaptor that will accept a stand alone hard drive. It's a case that is screwed together and your old HD mounts inside. It comes with a power supply and a USB adaptor cable that will hook up to another computer. Chances are that you operating system failed but all your other files should still be available on the HD. Once you plug it in is should come up with a drive letter on your file directory and you should be able to access them from the remote drive. Tough part may be getting the old HD out. Most upright case units are pretty easy. Remove the cover, unplug and unscrew the HD. There may be some mounting plates for your computer that may need to be removed to mount into the remote unit. I had a Dell "all in one" unit and it was more involved to get the HD out. This is an example of one of the HD enclosures. I don't have the particular model shown but they all, pretty much, work the same. Yes the base seems to be the same.

The wire you see on Iggy's racks is called hardware cloth and is available at hardware stores or places like Lowes and Home Depot. My racks are similar but are designed to be carried outside. Weather permitting I find exposure to some sunlight and breezes speed up the drying process.

Dang, sorry to hear that Dan. That is why I keep mine on my computer, a copy on a external hard drive and a copy on dropbox. Better safe than sorry. I hope the computer store can help you out. Jim

MDF has it's place and usefulness but definitely not in my shop. I don't want to be one dragging an oxygen tank behind me.The only ply I cut is BB, otherwise I only cut and use hardwoods using a high quality dust mask.

Actually I think the whole process is on video but not sure what Scott's youtube page is.. also might be on Steve Goods site.. But I believe Scott ade a drying rack out of wood and put chicken wire on it so it could dry on both sides.. He just uses mineral oil for the puzzles..

Hi Brad. I used it because I had a piece that fit. I was too lazy to go to Lowe's for poplar or pine. I can't afford buying hardwoods. I could go to Woodcraft and get wood but I don't cut anything that requires fine woods. I just cut for my own amusement. I'll never use MDF again,

I like the Modified Geometry blades a lot they are reverse only on the bottom but I think they perform well. They are a little more aggressive than the FDUR Try a dozen then decide. Fredfret Wichita, Ks

I was playing on my computer today looking at band saw boxes and patterns when I get that pop up of teds woodworking plans. I hate that pop up when you try to go back one page, it keeps popping up the window “ are you sure you want to leave?” Well, when I tried to go back from it today the computer froze then died. Virus or not I lost ALL my scroll saw patterns. Everything I’ve downloaded and everything I’ve done myself. I hadn’t made a cd. backup up of the patterns since 2015. Ya, slap me stupid. I have a few but the number I lost is just killing me. The computer can’t find the hard drive I’ve tried recovery cds, everything I have. It didn’t work. My only hope is taking it to a computer store here in town Tuesday. I hadn’t even backed them up on our other computer. I’ve sure learned a lesson. I hope it is just a. Virus and can be restored. Folks, please backup all your patterns don’t do what I just did.

All I can say is if you feel it's wrong it probably is. If you feel no one is getting hurt by you making one then go for it.

I have been cutting between 1 and 3 puzzles at a time and haphazardly drying them above a painters tray on a plastic grid thing I recycled from somewhere. I dip (usually a plastic bag), wait 30 minutes, dip again, wait about 15 minutes, then wipe clean and allow to finish curing, usually flipping once or twice to minimize marks and sticking. I probably need to branch out beyond danish oil one day, but it worked and I am a creature of habit. I am now seeing the value in dipping or finishing more puzzles at one time and am curious how everyone else dries multiple puzzles or projects for efficiency. I have only had a few lines in the finish due to the rack which cleaned up okay, but I would love to do a better job, more efficient job, of handling more projects at once. Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

I had s Scroll saw class last month and one person brought a Delta. We checked it out beside the Dewalt. It appears to be the same Saw with a different color on it.

That is a great pattern, Dick! You are way ahead of me. I have been playing with pattern making and do I ever struggle. I just do not seem to have the eye to pick it up. I think face portraits must be the hardest because the slightest miss-mark changes the whole face expression.. Cute little fellow and you caught it. Well done.

I also have an RBI Hawk and Hegner. I prefer the DeWalt over both of them. Currently I am using both Hegner and Hawk and blade breakage is an issue with both. Never broke a blade with the DeWalt. bb

I have a dewalt for 5 years and It needs maintence evey couple of years The last time I had to put a new motor in it . I don't have the shop that is big enough to do the work myself The first time it cost $39 and the second time they kep it for 6 weeks , I contacted Dewalt about the time and they sent a repairman down because the repair shop repair man quit any way they put a new motor in it checked it out good changed some bearingsand did a good job and the charge was $000. When it comes time to replace it I will think hard about a better machine. IKE

It's not really a direct answer to your question, but if you are wearing Dewalts out in 12-18 months, I doubt you will see a big difference with the Delta. I presume most of the components are the same, so subject to the same wear. My suggestion would be to invest in a better quality saw. Yes, they are much more money, but there are several to choose from and in the long run you will be much better off.

That is one of my biggest problems, I'll have to set a timer or something to remind my cheap butt, not like they are pricey.

I like Dgman do not paint except backers. I like to incorporate the grain in my projects. Wood has life and beauty. MDF does not.

Well for me I trie it yrs ago, didn't like.Haven't used since, for the reasons named.

Maybe a sort of rack I can slide several cut pieces of ply onto for drying shelves. Like a small version of a bakers rack? I'll make sure to stand them a bit after the last coat from now on, letting the fret cuts drip first. Just an FYI your gallery link is broken, on my end at least.

Everyone has their own favorite blades. I used Olsen blades for many years, and still use sometimes. I mostly use FD Ultra Reverse blades now. I have tried the Pegas MG blades, and still have some, but I did not like them enough to chance over. In fact, I just bought two gross of U R blades last week.

Another thing I found, and maybe it is just my imagination, but in the smaller sizes (#2/0 through #3), I have not used anything larger in the MG blades, the MG blades seem more flexible than the FD. So what I use in a #2/0 size in a FD blade, I use a #0 in the MG blade. Anyone else notice this or think they notice this?
