I think this is an awesome idea. I encourage folks to participate if you can. It will be a fun challenge to push your sawing skills, and earn some money for a good cause. If you can't, perhaps you can make a donation to help the fire relief. Our friends really need it.

That is all based on the number of posts. Here's how it breaks down: Newbie - 0 posts Scroller - 10 posts Pro Scroller - 50 posts Obsessed Scroller - 100 posts Master Scroller - 500 posts Zen Scroller - 1000 posts 2500+ posts you get to choose your own title. It really has no real meaning....just a reward for being active on SSV.

I deleted the most recent duplicate for ya.

This month's scroll saw challenge is about seeing how far we've come in our hobby. Post a picture of your first project, and a picture of your most recent project. This isn't about poking fun at where we began, but rather to celebrate how far we've come. And when you post, let us know how you discovered scroll sawing. It will be fun to see where we all got our start and where we are now.

I think that must be a bug. There's a new software update out. I'll probably update the site sometime next week. Hopefully that will fix the issue.
-
Hi All. I wanted to wish everybody here a very Merry Christmas. You make SSV such a great place to hang out and talk shop. I'm constantly amazed at the talent we have here. You're a constant source of inspiration. I hope you have a fantastic 2020 that is full of sawdust! May your blades always stay sharp. Happy Holidays, everybody!
-
I think this is a good spot to close down this discussion. I think the original question was answered, and folks got to speak their piece about quality of service and expectations. I think it's time to get back to making some sawdust and enjoying the Holidays! Thanks All.
-
Heh...that was my mistake. I put it back. Sorry 'bout that, y'all. Last minute "improvements"
-
I updated the software the other day (I don't remember which day). A lot of times, when the software updates, it has to re-cache and re-index the site, which slows down the response time. I'll keep an eye on it. Let me know if it is getting worse or not.

I'm gunna bump this topic again as a reminder. I really hate having to go in and remove jokes. Even if a joke is not explicit, the subject matter may not be appropriate. I try not to be prudish, but some of them are pushing the boundaries. Thanks for understanding & you're help keeping SSV such a fun place to be. Thanks all!

1) If you look at a forum, there is a list of topics. If there's a dot, and it's bold, it means there are unread posts. Click the dot, and it will take you to the first unread post. If it's not bold, that means that you've read everything in that thread. If there is a star, it means that is a thread you posted a comment in. If it's bold, that means there are new comments since the last time you looked at the thread. If you click the star, it will take you to the first unread post. In your user preferences, you can be notified when someone comments in a thread you commented in or started. You can find that by clicking the pulldown next to your name int he upper right corner and choosing Account Settings, then clicking Notification Settings in the Other settings area. (https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/notifications/options/) Yours was checked off, I went ahead and turned it on for you. Notifications will show up in the upper right corner next tot he Bell icon. Click the bell to see your notifications. You can follow any thread if you commented or not by clicking the Follow button in the upper right corner of the thread. The Bookmark function is only available to SSV Patrons. This is just a nice feature to bookmark a resource you may want to revisit later. 2) At the top of the forum, there is a button that says Unread Content. Click that and it only shows the unread content. For more control, at the top of the screen, there is an Activity tab. Click that and it gives you more options, such as All Activity, Unread Content, Content I started along with a ton of other filters. In fact, you can even create your own filtered activity streams if you want to look at only specific things. 3) I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. A new computer won't have the same fonts as your old computer. New computers only come with a select number of common fonts. You can download other fonts from sites like DaFont.com. Once you download it, double click the font and it will open a preview. In the corner, there is a button that says "Install" Click that to install on your system. Usually, you have to restart the program you are using (such as Inkscape) in order to see your newly installed font. I hope this helps. Let us know if you're still having trouble.

Feedback Wanted - Personalized Ornament Kit

There's a few things I'm seeing. First, you're looking at the contents of your zip file. You need to extract them to your desktop first. Just select everything inside the zip file and drag them to your desktop. Your two files are at the top (I circled them on the screenshot below). Looking at this, it appears you don't have Inkscape installed on your computer. As a result, it is opening in Google Chrome, which won't work. You'll need to download Inkscape and install it. You can find Inkscape here: https://inkscape.org/ Once installed, you should be able to double-click the files and they'll open in Inkscape. If that doesn't work, launch Inkscape, then go to File>Open and select the file you put on your desktop. The file you want is: CustomHolidayOrnaments2019_US-Letter.svg Let me know if you're still having trouble.- 50 replies

Feedback Wanted - Personalized Ornament Kit

Everything should be there in a single zip file. I'm not sure what you mean by the "custom pattern by" svg. We have a GIMP file that allows you to customize the promo. What you want is the CustomHolidayOrnaments2019_US-Letter.svg Make sure you extract the files from the Zip file (drag them to your desktop). Then, be sure to open the files in Inkscape. I ran into an issue where a user didn't have Inkscape installed and it opened in GIMP instead. That won't work. It has to be opened in Inkscape. Once you open the file in Inkscape, the patterns will be there and would look similar to the video tutorial I posted in the first post of this thread. Let me know if this isn't working. Can you post a screenshot so I can see what you're seeing?- 50 replies

This scroll saw challenge should be an easy one. Share a pic of your scroll sawn gifts this Holiday season! There's nothing more special than a handmade gift. It could be a gift for family, friends, coworkers, or stuff you sell at Holiday craft shows! While we love to see your projects, it's the stories behind the project that makes it special. So tell us a little bit about it. From your saw, to under the tree, I can't wait to see what you made this Holiday season.

I'm not sure if I understand. Are you looking for the SVG files? They're all packaged within the zip file. Make sure you extract the files from the Zip file (drag them to your desktop). I've highlighted the files that are Inkscape. If you're based in the US, you only need CustomHolidayOrnaments2019_US-Letter.svg. I hope this helps.- 50 replies

After you Union the ornament so that it is in 1 object, you can Choose the Selection tool Select your ornament. Hold down CTR and grab the corner of the ornament and resize up or down. Alternatively: Choose the Selection tool Select your ornament. At the top, of the screen, next to 'H', use the pulldown and change the units to Inches (in) Then click the padlock button between the W & H fields to constrain the aspect ratio Then type in either width or height to resize to an exact size- 50 replies

They're ALL amazing! We already had around 425 downloads as of this moment. The FB announcement went really well too. Thanks all who designed. Thanks all who donated to your favorite charity. It is all greatly appreciated.

I think you got it figured out since you asked a different question regarding Inkscape and a Mac in a different thread. But my Mac seemed to work just fine. I've had it installed for quite a while, so it's not a new install like yours. It did take a bit longer to launch than normal, though.

I tried it on the mac and it seems to work OK. If you grouped the pattern first, it won't union. Look on the bottom of your screen and see if it says "Group of x objects" If so, you'll have to ungroup them before doing Union.- 50 replies

I don't know how to do it on a windows tablet, but an Ipad you click on the picture and it gets big. Click the picture again, and it opens in a new tab. Click and hold, then an option is there to save to your camera roll. The first big image won't save because there's a lightbox script happening in the background. It's not really showing you the real image, but rather an on-the-fly resized image. So there isn't a real image to save. By clicking the image again, it opens the original image in a new tab. That's the one you can save. Hopefully that helps.

I'm proud to announce that SSV's Ornaments For Charity 2019 edition eBook is now available! For the last 10 years, members of Scroll Saw Village have donated their talents to designing ornaments for this unique eBook of patterns. This year, we added 11 additional designers to design 55 additional patterns. The eBook is now 119 pages with 360 Holiday ornament patterns! You can download the eBook for free and check it out. If you decide to keep the this amazing pattern book, we ask you to donate to your favorite charity (we're on the honor system here). Remember, this isn't about "buying" an ebook of patterns, it's about giving to a worthy cause. So dig deep when donating to your favorite charity. Please spread the word about this wonderful eBook of patterns. Post to your favorite social media, other clubs, and organizations. The more people who know about it, the more money we're able to raise for worthy causes. You can find the ebook here. There will be a tab on the navigation menu through Christmas. I usually like block style letters in all caps. They seem to fit better in the name frame. Remember, you can stretch the name frame sideways to accommodate long names. OH No! I've been having a few orders come in. But, maybe PayPal is having temporary issues. You could also try rebooting your computer. Maybe your browser isn't connecting to PayPal fast enough. I can't imagine that would be it, but it's worth a try.- 50 replies

Thanks everybody who chose to buy this personalized ornament kit. I think the response has been very positive so far, which makes me happy. If you purchased the kit and had a chance to play around with it a bit, can you leave a review on the product page? I think other members will find that helpful in deciding if it's right for them. Again, thank you for your support. I greatly appreciate it.- 50 replies
