Feedback Wanted - Personalized Ornament Kit
Travis replied to Travis's topic in General Scroll Sawing
I'm sorry to hear that. That sounds like a firewall on your computer is blocking it. It could be your computer security settings, browser security settings, or a virus scanner. Many times when it blocks a download, there's a popup saying it won't download. On that popup, there's usually a "Advanced" button you can click. Click that and it will give you the option of downloading anyway. If that doesn't work, shoot me a email and I'll email the files to you. Absolutely. I'd love suggestions for future ornament designs. You can share them here, or you can PM me. Thanks for the feedback. Yah, I can flush it out a bit more in the written tutorial. I'll see if I can update that in the next day or so. The ornament kit is meant for folks who are familiar with Inkscape. I wrote in the description something to the order that you need a working knowledge of Inscape, but don't have to be an expert.- 50 replies

Feedback Wanted - Personalized Ornament Kit
Travis replied to Travis's topic in General Scroll Sawing
If anybody has any trouble downloading the file, please let me know. While the system has been there for the Ornaments For Charity eBook, this is the first time using the payment feature with the eBooks. From what I can tell, it's pretty straight forward. But I'd love to hear your experiences, too.- 50 replies

Feedback Wanted - Personalized Ornament Kit
Travis replied to Travis's topic in General Scroll Sawing
Thanks all for the feedback. I really appreciate it. I love having folks like you to bounce ideas off of. We'll see if folks find the Ornament Kit useful. If there's enough interest, I'll make another one next year. So, over the years, can have a nice variety of customizable ornaments. It is available for download in the ebook shop. I was thinking $20 also sounded reasonable, too. I figure if you sell 2 ornaments, you've recouped your investment. Everything after that is gravy. What I think I might do, since this is the first time doing something like this, I'm putting it on sale for 50% off through Cyber Monday! So right now, you can pick it up for only $10, which is a screamin' deal! It's my way of saying Thank You for being a part of SSV and making it such a great place to be.- 50 replies

Mini Scroll Saw Business in a Box! Earn a little extra cash this Holiday season, and help pay for your scroll saw addiction...errr....hobby. With this kit, you can personalize as many Holiday ornaments as you want with this simple template. This kit includes an Inkscape (svg) source file that allows you to personalize ornaments with names and dates. Also included are step-by-step instructions, premade images to advertise your services that you can post to social media, and the GIMP file in case you'd like to customize your promotions. Here's what would be included in the kit: SVG Ornament File - Inkscape SVG file that you can use to customize ornaments. (US Letter & A4 size) Step by Step Instructions - Easy instructions on how to use the Inkscape file, and how to export PDFs and PNGs from Inkscape. Promotion Banners - Pre-made images you can post to social media that advertise your ornaments. (5 price-points in both $ & £) GIMP Promotion Banner Template - GIMP source file that allows you to customize your promotion banner with your name and picture. Note: This ornament kit is meant for folks who have a working knowledge of Inkscape. You don't have to be an advanced user, but you should have the basics down. If you'd like to learn more about Inkscape, you can find my free online course here. Here's an overview of how the kit works: Selling Ideas: With this kit, you can either sell finished patterns to fellow scrollers or crafters. Or you can sell finished ornaments. Custom patterns for fellow scrollers & crafters. (suggested price: $1-2 per custom pattern) Post to your Facebook (or other social media) that you make custom ornaments. Friends and family would jump at the chance to have a custom ornament designed and cut by you. (suggested price: $10-15 each). Take orders at a craft show, church bizarre or event. Or even scroll on-site. (suggested price: $10-15 each). Sell on Etsy or similar online handmade marketplaces. Just give yourself time to make and ship the items. (suggested price: $12-20 each) Fundraiser for a youth group, school, or sports team. (suggested price: $12-20 each) Or maybe, they’re just unique gifts for friends and family (suggested price: $0 each)$20

Feedback Wanted - Personalized Ornament Kit
Travis replied to Travis's topic in General Scroll Sawing
Thanks. If there's enough interest, I'd release a new set each year. So there would be a 2019 set for $x and a 2020 set for $x. As far as price goes, a better way of putting it: If you were to purchase something like this, what would you be willing to pay (a fair price for us both). A stab in the dark is fine with me if you don't know. I have a price in mind, but I don't want to underprice it. LOL.- 50 replies

Hi All. I've been toying around with an idea I'd like to get your thoughts on. I made a customizable ornament kit that allows you to personalize Holiday ornaments. Basically, this is a Inkscape (svg) file that allows you to personalize ornaments with names (or dates). I would provide the SVG file, along with instructions and some promo pics you can post to social media. This is basically a mini business-in-a-box where you can earn a little extra cash this Holiday season. Here's what would be included in the kit: SVG Ornament File - Inkscape SVG file that you can use to customize ornaments. (US Letter & A4 size) Step by Step Instructions - How to use the Inkscape file, and how to export PDFs and PNGs from Inkscape. Promotion Banners - Pre-made images you can post to social media that advertise your ornaments. (5 pricepoints in $ & £) GIMP Promotion Banner Template - GIMP file that allows you to customize your promotion banner with your name and picture. Note: This ornament kit is meant for folks who have a working knowledge of Inkscape. You don't have to be an advanced user, but you should have the basics down. If you'd like to learn more about Inkscape, you can find my free online course here. Here's an overview on how the kit works: With this kit, you can either sell finished patterns to fellow scrollers or crafters. Or you can sell finished ornaments. Here are some selling ideas: Custom patterns for fellow scrollers & crafters. (suggested price: $12-20 each) Fundraiser for youth group, school, or sports team. (suggested price: $12-20 each) Or maybe, they’re just unique gifts for friends and family (suggested price: $0 each) OK. Here's where I'd like to get your help: What do you think of the idea? Is it something you'd find useful? Do you think it would be too difficult to use? What would you think is a fair price for this business-in-a-box kit (take into account all that is included, including source files). Any other feedback?

Awesome! I look forward to seeing what you come up with. All the info is in the first post. We need it appropriate ornament size, which is around 3.5-4" You can send it as a JPG or PNG in black or white. Or you can save me some formatting time and send me the SVG if you designed it in Inkscape. You can email it to me or PM it to me.- 39 replies

Whenever I think of November, I think of farms and their harvest, and the ranchers getting things ready for the winter ahead. I think of apple orchards, pumpkin patches, and tractors plowing the fields. So this month, our scroll saw challenge is about the farmer. It's open to your own interpretation. What does it mean to you? Do you think of the animals, old tractors, beat up ol' trucks, old barns, farm house decor, or a lazy Sunday afternoon fishing at the creek? Post a project with that theme. Did you grow up on a farm? If so, let us know when you post a picture of your project, and tell us a little about it. I look forward to seeing what y'all come up with. And while you think about it, I'll leave you with song.

Last year, we had 11 Designers. I'm hoping to get at least that many again. Do you think we can hit 15 designers? If so, that's 75 more patterns in this year's ebook to at total of 380 patterns. I'm designing! Who else is in?- 39 replies

Holy Cow! This will be our 10th anniversary of publishing the Ornaments For Charity ebook! That's 10 years of scrollers giving back! We're continuing our tradition here at Scroll Saw Village by publishing our annual e-Book full of Christmas ornaments. This popular e-Book was featured in the Holiday 2014 issue of Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts magazine. Our ornament designs are exclusive to this eBook and designed by SSV members. Anyone can download the ebook in exchange for a donation to their favorite charity. Our hope is that we'd be able to raise some money for very worthy causes and provide some cool patterns at the same time. *** But we need your help! *** We need some volunteers to design some ornaments. Each designer will provide 5 patterns (no more, no less) I ask that the designs are not made available anywhere else (this gives value to the e-book) They have to be designed specifically by you (no posting other people's patterns) Designs must be emailed (or PM) to Travis by Wednesday, November 27st (info below) A few things to keep in mind: Religious and secular designs are accepted. Other religions/traditions also celebrate this time of year, so let's not forget them. Keep detail and size appropriate for an ornament. Don't submit copyrighted or licensed patterns. The due date will sneak up on you quicker than you think. Please get them to me ASAP so I have time to work on them. What do you get in exchange? Credit for your design. The warm fuzzy feeling that you're helping others in need. Submitting your ornaments: Email the ornaments directly to Travis (travis [at] scrollsawvillage.com) or PM me. Formats accepted are JPG, PNG. Please keep the pattern in black & white only (no gray) . That way I can convert them easier when putting together the ebook. I'll also accept Inkscape files (SVG). This is ideal if you know how to use Inkscape. That way I don't have to manually convert them.

Tags are used to assist the search engine to help determine type of content. It will take it into consideration when returning results. Also, content that contain tags, the tag is clickable. Clicking will show the results of items that also contain those tags. You can also search only tags, but that's buried a bit deeper in the search tool. Tags are useful if people use them. They're not widely used on SSV, but I use them when posting. Especially for challenges, SSV updates, announcements, etc. They'd be super useful for patterns. We have probably close to 4000 patterns. It sure would make it easier to find stuff if tags are used in conjunction with a good title. Here's how to use them with search: When you click search, you'll be taken to a results page with additional filtering options. From here, you can click "More Search Options" Then you can "Search by Tags"

Just click on your name, then click the Albums tab. That's where all your pictures are. You have quite a few albums with tons of pictures.

You have more than 500 pictures in your albums....I think that's more than a handful....LOL
