  1. Are you doing freestanding puzzles? I think this is personal preference. I've done it both ways. More often than not, I paint the edges and back. For the inside pieces, a lot of times I use a #5 blade or larger to cut freestanding puzzles. This will create a larger kerf, which makes the puzzle easier to assemble. It also gives room for paint buildup on the edges. So, with this method, you can paint the inside edges with a thin coat. When I paint puzzles, I like a diluted acrylic paint, basically the consistency of milk. This stains the puzzle, letting the grain show through. Then I put a spray-on clear coat on it for protection.
  2. Got a woodturners club meeting tonight. Looking forward to it.

  3. Etsy, eBay, Art Fire, and Made it Myself. Deviant Art, if you're more into the visual arts (painting, photography, graphics, etc).
  4. Only Teus and I'm already ready for the weekend.

  5. Boy, that turned out nice! Great tribute. I think you got this intarsia thing down.
  6. I fixed the strike through for ya.
  7. Thanks. Shoutbox isn't the chatroom. I haven't installed that yet. I have to go through the settings now and get things dialed in. The new gallery isn't working yet. I'm hoping to get that ready by the end of the night.

  13. I love the colored backer. I'm assuming it's scrap book paper? Nicely done.
  14. I usually taper the holes so it resembles a tear drop. One side of the blade will have a slight bur, which you can use as a rasp to taper the hole so it's not so obvious as a drill point. I often put my pilot hole in the middle of the line, and taper it out both directions. If the design has a lot of veining, I'll use a bigger blade to create a larger kerf so that the veining stands out. A bigger blade will help hide the pilot holes, especially if you do the tapering I mentioned above. Another option is to put a pilot hole at the beginning and the end of the veining cut. This is a more stylistic choice that creates a nice effect. Kind of a serif on a font letter.
  15. I usually cut a slit in a business card and slide it around the blade, then tape it to the saw. This is usually enough support for me. If I really need solid zero-clearance, I'll drill a hole in a large 1/4" plywood board (12" square or so) and thread my blade trough it the hole. Then tape the board to my saw with double stick tape. That also gives a bit of support. I usually add packing tape to the surface so my workpiece slides easier, though.
