  15. I have a Ridgid saw and I don't have a stand. Mine is bolted on to an old, very heavy, kitchen table and sitting in the middle of my living room lol. I use a straight back wooden chair and sometimes put a cushion on it. I have back and hip problems and so this is the best type of chair for me. I do wish the chair were taller or the table shorter.......I get fatigued very easily. I've used Lemon Oil with great results......I love the way it brings out the grain. So far I've only used it on small projects and not bothered with a finish other than that. But if I do, it will most likely be clear spray acrylic.......that's what I like to use the most. Or water based polyurethane if I'm brushing it on. Christina
  16. I like the way Barry describes it.........a zen kinda thing. It's that way for me. People would think I was a great candidate for the nut hut if they ever really watched me lol. I love the feel and smell of wood........I always have. I will turn it over and over and almost pet it, stop and smell it and then start over again before I actually cut something. It really is a zen thing for me. To create something beautiful out of not much of anything is very satisfying to me and always has been. But with wood..........well it's beautiful before you begin to make something out of it. So you have to find what makes it more beautiful........how to enhance the wood as well as making the wood create what you envision. It's really rather difficult to explain how scrolling makes me feel. Most times I don't even care if someone likes my projects or not...........I make them for me. It's a need deep down inside of me...........a need to create. It's alot like painting for me. The idea of taking canvas and smearing, brushing and smoothing this colored paste on it and making something beautiful out of just that and an idea in your head. Of course I want those who receive my work to enjoy it and be able to use it...but it's really mainly for me and it's kind of a let down when the project is completed lololol. I think I need that perpetual project! Christina
  17. Absolutely beautiful work Marshall. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. Christina

  19. No tools, but I received a great package of 1/4" exotic woods. I can't identify any of it lololol. But a nice variety anyway. Christina
  20. My health, nor my finances allow me to scroll near as much as I'd like to. So for me, I only do projects that I want to give as a special gift for someone. I don't have an outlet for selling near me.........and I'm still to much of a beginner to sell anyway. So for now..........gifts are what I make. No matter what kind of gift I'm making.........scrolling, woodburning or even knitting.........I like to tailor the gift to the person and I like functional gifts best. Something I think the person will enjoy using. I made a victorian picture frame for our elderly neighbors for Christmas, out of 1/4" mahagany and BB for the photo box on the back. I forgot to take a picture but soon will and share it. It was my first attempt at a picture frame and our neighbors loved it. Christina
  21. I agree with Dan.........free wood is the best lol. But I think I love aromatic cedar the best so far. I love the way it looks, feels and smells. I've not had any trouble with brittleness. But then I haven't cut a huge amount of it or anything else for that matter. I can get free pine around here alot. But it's pretty soft and drives me crazy the way it clogs up everything. But free is free lolol. I love the looks of so many woods that I've not had a chance to try cutting yet...........cocobolo, rosewood, spalted maple........and on and on! Christina
  22. That's a great idea! Thanks for sharing it with us. Also when the old calendars go on sale, you can pick them up for about 50 cents most of the time........and great pictures! Christina
