  5. Here is my latest intarsia. This was a custom order for a member on another forum. This is his company logo. He posted the logo to be made into a scrolling pattern, and asked if someone would make an intarsia project out of it. I reworked the original pic a little to come up with the pattern I used for it. The turkey is abot 13"x 10". It's made from aspen- eyes & tooth, aromatic cedar- eyebrows neck and tips of tail feathers, cherry- face and tail feathers, poplar- shovel head, paduak- shovel handle, walnut- body and wings, wenge- handle head and claws, yellowheart- beak legs feet and hardhat.

  10. thats better. excellent cutting.
  11. Steve I use the dremel 1800 scroll station(with sander on the side) and love it. They don't make this model anymore. I did see a month or so ago that Menards had the 1830 for around $180.It was on sale at the time.
  12. I don't do shows any more. When I was I sold my portraits for 20-30 for an 8x10. I make my frames and usually use pine burnt(adds some character to plain pine), but I don't put glass in them unless it's requested.
  13. excellent job Susie. I like the way the woods go opposite directions.
  14. I voted. I sell a lot of the stuff I make and I also give some away to auction/charities as well as to family. It is still a hobby for me. Selling pieces is how I pay for my hobby. I get pretty busy during the holidays making (selling) gifts for others. when asked to make something I ask when they want it done by, if it doesn't give me enough time to where I feel pressured I won't do it. Most people I sell to know I do this as a hobby, and tell me "whenever you get it done." I work at my own pace if I don't feel like working in the shop I don't, but most nights I'm out there plugging away. It's relaxing to me, lets me unwind from my real job by doing something I love doing. To me there is no better joy than seeing someones face light up from something I've made for them, even if they are paying for it. I have done shows before and even rented a space in our mall, that way felt like a job to me. Now I sell by word of mouth, sometimes I get pretty busy. but I can still work at my own pace.

  24. Thanks Kevin and Paul. I sent her a picture of it on my phone but that was before I put the lock on it. and couldn't see the rose very well. She liked it from the picture and wanted me to bring it to her.(2+ hour drive). I will surprise her with it when I show up at her door next weekend. She actually asked me to get her a box or something to keep her money in, but she knew "dad" would make her one instead of buying it.
  25. My youngest daughter has moved away to college and asked me to make her a box. She wanted a box to keep money in. The reason being she won't be 18 till next month and want to wait to open a bank account then. She has one here at home but the bank isn't there where she is. So she wants to keep her money hidden from her roommates until she visits us or opens her own account. That being said. I wanted to make a box that looked a little better than just a square chunk of wood with a lock, besides she's my baby it had to look good. So I came up with this. The box is made from oak. Overall it is 10" long 5 1/2" deep and 5" tall. The dark streak on the front is a stain in the wood no matter how much I sanded it just wouldn't come out. The rose intarsia on top is made from 3/8" material - aromatic red cedar(rose), green poplar(leaves), and cherry(stem). all natural no stain. I made an heart enclosure out of the cedar for the lock. The tray inside lifts out and has a "secret" compartment under it. The feet were made using the same profile I used on the lid and lower trim. Just mitered together at corners and put on upside down
