  1. great job on both
  2. I have shown this cutting before. But i Made a turtle shell clock and coated with a material called envirotex lite. One coat is equal to 50 coats of varnish. very durable and glossy. anyhow I mixed up to much and didn't want to waste it so I covered my one of my fairy cuttings with it. below is a picture of both, the fairy and turtle shell clock. the shell is from a snapping turtle.
  3. I just finished this bear. this one is made from - walnut, beech, and wenge.
  4. Another excellent cutting. I have made some of these. given some away and sold a few.
  5. great job. that will be something to get pasted down.
  6. Thanks Guys. Jim there are several books that give tips and how to's. Check out Judy Gale Roberts website (http://intarsia.com/). she has lots of great pattern and books. I got a couple books from the library when I was just getting into it. another to look for are books by Kathy Wise. Some of these books will have patterns as well as instructions. I started with a simple project(praying hands by JGR) to see if I would like intarsia and have been hooked ever since. There are a few others on the web, one has an ebook on intarsia but can't remember the site. If I do I will post it.
  7. This long weekend I've had quite a bit of shop time and have gotten several projects done. This is one a standing bear. It's cut from walnut with wenge claws and cottonwood around the eye. It needs sanded agian and another coat of poly. Then off to the customer.I have another one that I will post later tonight or tomorrow.

  14. hi Chris welcome to the village.
  15. if it was me, I would not use walnut and paint it. That would be a waste of good beautiful wood just to cover with paint. I would use a less expensive type of wood for the top, like poplar or even pine. Since you are going to protect it with paint and another finish. Againt this is just me, I hate painting hardwood.
  16. If you want to use hardwoods, I would use cedar. Redwood and cypress hold up very well outside as well. As far as a finish home depot sells a stain/finish that is UV protectant, and comes in clear, cedar, or redwood tint. I can't remember the name of it. I used it on a chair I built for the yard (made from pine 2x's) and used the redwood UV stain. I built it last spring (2009) still looks good and repels water. and it sits out all year long.
  17. looks great Mike. Is that going to be offered as one of your kits?
  18. welcome back Christina
  19. Brian, I don't know of any free intarsia patterns of a walleye but scroller ltd has one. here is a link to it. hope this is of some help. http://scrollerltd.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HVF5

  21. excellent job. I too like painting ceramics and other things.I haven't had time to do any painting
  22. Hi Malc, I myself keep several blades sizes on hand. The one I use the most is a #5r flying dutchman. I cut plywood to 3/4"+ hardwood with the 5r. I alos keep a few sizes of olsen blades in stock. But my opinion is the flying dutchmans cut better and stay sharper. Contact Mike at www.mikesworkshop.com. He can tell you what blade will work the best for what you are cutting. Great guy and great service. Hope this helps you a little.
  23. I would not scroll without my foot switch. It makes it so much easier. The clock idea is a good one I've been looking for a small electric clock to use but no luck. Most of the stores only carry battery operated or digital.
  24. Hi Malcom and welcome to the village. There are lots of friendly people here so if you have any questions just ask.
