  2. that is a excellent cutting.
  3. excellent cutting
  4. welcome to the village. we all have to start somewhere. not everyone creates a masterpiece when they first start scrolling. I know my first cuttings were nothing to brag about.
  5. Thanks David, thats what draws me so much to intarsia. see all the pieces together, then after they are all sanded and shaped it is amazing.
  6. pretty cool, congrats.
  7. thank you Vector, Susie, and Paul
  8. I keep alot of small pieces, until I run out of room. I do alot of intarsia and as long as there is a chance I can get a piece out of it I will keep it. I don't keep much under 2 inches though. You never know when you're going to need that one little piece. Once my scrap bin begins to overflow I'll go through it and get rid of some.
  9. hi Stephen and welcome to the village. Enjoy your new addiction/ hobby. If you have questions feel free to ask. Have fun and make lots of sawdust
  10. thanks Kevin. The woods used are all natural colors, that why I love doing intarsia. It lets the beauty of the wood show. There will never be two alike.
  11. Here is my latest intarsia. A leaping trout. woods used are starting from the top - walnut, yellow poplar, curly maple, paduak, aspen, the fins are butternut, around the eye is yellowheart and inside the mouth is wenge. The pattern is from www.intarsiadesigns.com
  12. looking good. I know Christmas already, but I'm starting to think about what to make for gifts for this year.
  13. excellent job. I like your idea of cutting the dial, instead of using the insert.
  14. Hi Derek and welcome to the village.
  15. looks good for your first one. looks like you combined segmentation with intarsia. Don't stop it will get a little easier. Or try segmentation, its like intarsia without as much shaping. it's ussually cut from one piece of wood and colored to make the picture.
  16. thanks vector.
  17. hello and welcome to the village.
  18. thanks Susie
  19. more great cuttings.
  20. Thanks Travis and Kevin. I've got one more intarsia project to do that is sold, then I'm hoping to do a couple scrolling projects I keep pushing to the back burner. Then back to intarsia. I have to get a couple finished projects to show. I was asked to do a lecture (for lack of a better word) for the local woodworkers guild in January. I was recomended buy the guy I buy all my wood from. Again thanks for all the kind words.
  21. Thanks David. the plan(pattern) called for all walnut even the horns, but I thought they would look better in a lighter wood. I had the spalted cottonwood laying there and thought it was a perfect use.
  22. thanks Philip and Mike.
  23. I don't wear a mask. I know I should but I don't unless the dust gest really bad. I do have my makeshift dust collector going and if I'm doing lots of sanding I have my shop vac running as well.
  24. great find at the yard sale. nice pattern.
  25. that looks great, thanks for sharing.
