  1. What about taking it to a machine shop and having them weld that puppy shut after they bring those to edges back together?
  2. I would check with sears first to see if they have a replacement part for that saw or if they have one thet will work for that saw.
  3. Thanks everyone Actually I have thought about it, but my $$ situation does not allow to speand any extra money...I have a hard enough time getting wood to cut. As it is I am really killing myself trying to get some stuff out there so I can pick up some additional orders.
  4. Thanks, I think I have found my second most favorite cutting so far.
  5. I finished another one today. This is my "The Lion and Lamb" Pattern. It took me approx. 4.5 hours to cut, file out the fuzzies, make three frames, and finish everything today.
  6. Nice Work!!!
  7. Congrats to you my friend. You have chosen some fine work to display.
  8. Here are a couple projects I finished today. The first project is a commision I have been working on. Cut in 1/4" Red Oak Ply and the Frame is made from 3/4" red oak ply. I went with the plywood frame to give it that rustic look / feel. The second one is of the race car I made for my Cuz's husband (posted before), which I finally got framed.
  9. Sorry Mike I have not used it.
  10. I don't currently. But if I were to have something entered into a show, or if it was a cutting I charged a large amount for I probably would.
  11. Our shop built solutions may not always be pretty, but they work and tend to be cheaper than what you would pay for a companies solution, thats for sure.
  12. That is a great idea, but I am doing more than just portraits
  13. I know that they make all these fancy framing clamps. But I don't have money to spend on stuff like that. So awhile back when I made my entertainment center I needed a way to keep the doors square while the glue set up and this is what I came up with. Ir worked for those doors and it works great for picture frames of just about any size I need to make. It seems that storing it would be a PIA but it actually stores very nicely out of the way. It is made from that press wood, so it doesn't warp, it is held together by a couple of peices of scrap plywood. You will notice that I have like a million brads in it, that was because I was joking with my brother-in-law about how Norm seems to put a million brads in his projects Using it is simple put the frame peices in, glue them up making sure they are up against the larger of my "L's" then place the small "L" against the oppisite corner and clamp with very light pressure if needed. In most cases the "L" peices will hold the frame in place nicely and I don't even need the clamps.
  14. Lets shift the disscussion to the Logo. I think it needs to be simple, that it looks good on a business card, it must draw your eye to it (be catchy), and somthing someone would remember
  15. I am just getting into selling my work myself so I am still trying to figure it out myself. But I am charging between 70 and 80.00 for a custom portrait depending on subject and complexity. I am still working out how long it takes for me to complete a project, I never really kept track before, because I wasn't charging, but now that I am moving in that direction I am working it out. I know the ballpark fingure I want to be around but like I said I am still feeling things out my self. I think you should be starting at around 20.00 an hour or so. Figure that out and then see what the price point is. Remember it is always easier to come down on price than it is to go up in price.
  16. Glenn, My question to you is...What is your time worth? $10.00 a hour $15.00 a hour, $20.00? I would suggest that you figure out your material cost first, then figure out how much time it is going to take you to complete the project. That should be your price of the project. Include design time in that as well. By they way that is some fantastic work. It would take me probably 40 times longer to cut those, I am a slow cutter.
  17. I will jump over and take a look at it
  18. For those of you who are scrolling as a buisness, I am hoping that you would be willing to share your contracts (the paperwork not the cutting with me. I hate reinventing the wheel when I don't need to. I will be changing them slightly to meet my needs as they arise. So I am looking for contracts that cover: Customer custom orders with pattern design Stock orders (using stock type patterns) Store Contracts (when you contract with a store) Where the store purchases your work to sell and where they display your work for you Am I missing any? Please and Thank You
  19. I was a stander until recently. I decided to start sitting because my back just can't take it any more and I have messed up my right ankle pretty good, I have been limping around for the past 4 months or so. I really should go to the doctor but I guess I am the typical guy no docs. For the chair, I picked up a cheap swivel bar stool at walmart that has some padding, but I will pronably add some more to it one of these days. In addition I have been doing more cutting than I have in the past with the hopes that it increases even more. So tilting the saw was a big help.
  20. Ok I said I was going to take a picture of the bottom of the stand I made for my scroll saw so you could see what I did under it. Well here you go, delivered as promised. If you see the peice of wood around the center point of the stand, that is the piece I added in to improve the dust collection. If you have any questions please ask.
  21. Alright all I am wanting to put together a logo and name for my woodworking buisness I am going to try to get started and off the ground. Right now I am totally clueless about what I want for the Logo. As far as the name goes I am thinking along the line of: Messman's Creative Works Messman's Creative Woodworking Messman's Woodworking Messman's Artistic Woodworks (or) Woodworking Anyway, Logo and Name suggestions are more than welcome and are encouraged. Thanks for your ideas.
  22. The saw is going no where. It is bolted to the stand I made, and it's weight does not allow it to move. It vibrates a littl when at it's highest speed, which I do not cut at. If I want to get rid of the vibration I just need to add a clamp and clamp it down to the work bench.
  23. Well I decided to take a break from dealing with my pain in the butt customer and go cut something in the shop. So I elected to cut one of the patterns I made. I call it Beining Nailed. I would love to hear honest comments about it. I am thinking that I need to make a couple of changes, but before I do I want to hear what you all have to say.
  24. Your repair work came out great, you can barely see where it broke. The over all project is great.
  25. That does look like a great peice to do, but I know I had better not try it. If I did I know I would break it and I would not be able to glue it back together again. Can't wait to see the finished peice.
