  1. mcmike, First off we are so glade you found us here at the village, make sure you show off your work cause we all sure would love to see it. Now to the questions I can answer for you. What kind of wood to use for fret work? Well the answer is what ever kind you want to use. I prefer to use 1/4" stock for my portraits, this can be plywood or solid, the choice is yours. Blades...Mike is a great individual to get blades from and he knows his product and has great customer service. I believe he has on his site a which blade page that will answer most of your questions. I use, almost always, spiral blades and since I dont do much in the way of stack cutting I have never really paid much attention to blade issue like alot of folks have, if it is small enough to get the detail I want I use it (I know not really the right way to do it) I have always wanted to make a guitar for my son and would love to hear more about how you go about doing it.
  2. Glenn, Great job on the cuttings. As far as I know you are the first person who has cut my pattern. It looks fantastic, again great job.
  3. Yes you will want to glue first.
  4. Here is one where a humming bird is at rest
  5. Again I am so glad that we can help you, help yourself so to speak. And Dot, you are a very caring mom for sure and I want to extend a thank you to you for raising up a fine Man. By the way Glenn, I am having a case of envy right now , I don't have as good of a saw as you now.
  6. Its ok Marg, Travis and Clayton gang up on me I am a good boy really Thats what he tells everyone, and he even has a few believing that he is a good boy but most of us see right through it.
  7. Jim Welcome to the Village, so glad you found us. You will find all kinds of help here on how to make patterns and until you learn how, all you have to do is post a picture in the pattern request area and one of our many talented pattern designers will give it a try for you.
  8. Glenn, I think I can speak for everyone here at the Village when I say, you are more than welcome. You are the whole reason we are here!! May God continue to bless you.
  9. I have not run into this problem. But if only the screw threading is going bad that would lead me to believe that you could be over tighting the screw, or there is some crude built up in the threading of the hole. Maybe run a tap through it to clean it out. Of course the best fix would be to order a new receiver? (I am forgeting what is called) from skill.
  10. Good point Clayton! So who is going to keep an eye on him?
  11. Welcome to the padded room guys Glad that we have some additional help.
  12. Welcome to the Village Bert, so glad you found us.

  14. rlmcleod, First let me welcome you to the Village, we are so glad you found us. I believe you have found one of the best scrolling sites around. I see you are located in Northwest Florida, where abouts are you? I am located in Crestview, Florida myself and it would be great to have a fellow scroller in the immediate area. Chris
  15. For a first time cutter he did great.
  16. Thanks for the Kind Comments.
  17. Here is the cutting I did today. The frame for it is still drying and I need to go buy some more DEFT, I ran out today . I hope you enjoy it, thanks for looking.
  18. Just finished this cutting today. The pattern is mine. This was probably the most challanging cutting I have done to date, not because of the number of cuts, but rather because of the very little amount of wood that was left behind. This is a very delicate cutting, that I very much enjoyed cutting. The one thing I learned while cutting it is that I need more work on cutting straight lines . I still have to finsh cleaning it up some, spray some DEFT on it, and make a frame for it. I hope you all enjoy it.
  19. I cut this today, just because I had time. I don't know if I am going to keep it or give it to the wifes church, I just have not decided yet. Sorry about the bluish tint in the picture. There was just too much black for the flash, I'm thinking. Anyway comments are welcome, the pattern is mine.
  20. Thanks guys
  21. Thanks. That gives me some things to think about now.
  22. I did some research on it and I priced it at our Michaels today. I was really interested in how much clay it took (which you answered). I will probably get a simple toaster oven which can be picked up for next to nothing. When you press it in do you need to leave some "overhang" or "pressout" (what ever you want to call it, so it stays in place? or does it stay in place when the clay is flush on both sides? And is there any shrinkage to the clay when it is dried?
  23. I really like that. How much clay did you have to use? I am asking because this is giving me all kinds of ideas and I need to figure out if they are feasable or not.
  24. Well my wife came to me Last night and asked if I could cut this for her by Friday. Well needless to say I couldn't say no to her. So today I made the pattren (quick and dirty like) and cut them both out. It is her church's logo and one is going to be used for a grab bag type gift and the other I am going to give to the pastor for the church. I still have to finish sand and put a coat of Deft spray on it. I am very happy with them considering how little time I actually put into this.
  25. When I have a problem with the pattern lifting on me, I just use clear tape scotch type. I keep a dispenser right beside my saw when I am cutting.
