  1. That turned out great Michael. I like your choice of background for the photograph as well. Barry
  2. Those are terrific Don, and very cute. Having a dozen or two scattered around in strategic places would be an interesting way to display them. It would make the house look like it's been overrun with elves. Barry
  3. The Java Gel appears to be just one of many colors of oil based gel stain manufactured by General Finishes. I have used their gel stains before, but only the water based. Since I work mostly with pine for my projects and Baltic Birch for portraits, gel stains produce a much better appearance. If you are going to try it, I would suggest also picking up some pre-stain would conditioner from them as well. The conditioner will help keep the wood from staining splotchy due to different grain density in the wood. I haven't tried it on BB ply, so test it on scrap first. Good luck and let us know if it works for you. Barry
  4. Great cuttings Kevin. I'm pretty sure the fridge still weighs less than me, but I'll be sure to keep an eye on it now. Barry
  5. I usually clamp my stack together and use blue painters tape around the edges, spray adhesive on the pattern, stick it and cut. When I do my next cutting, I think I'm going to try and cover the whole surface with the blue painters tape and then apply the pattern to that. This way I don't have to deal with difficult pattern removal. Barry
  6. Great job on your first piece! Can't wait to see more of your work. Keep at it, it only gets easier from here on out. Barry
  7. Nice job on this. Barry
  8. Great job on this. I'm sure she's going to love it. BArry
  9. My shop is in my basement so thankfully I don't need much in the way of a heat source. Yours looks like it will do a pretty darn good job of keeping you nice and toasty. Barry
  10. Great job on those. Are these your patterns? Barry
  11. Nice job Kevin. I can see them hanging on top of a door. Barry
  12. Nice cutting on this. It does look like a fun cut to do. Barry
  13. Kevin is right about why there may be small variations in the tension setting on the saw. However, I would say that you shouldn't get too hung up on what tension number you are using on the saw, but what tension you ultimately have on the blade. I know I read a how to article on adjusting the saw so you can get consistent 2-2.5 readings on the tension scale that involve making an adjustment internally to the tension rod. I haven't bothered to do this yet because I am still able to get fairly consistent tension on the blade in about the 4 range on the scale. Bear in mind that the scale does not correspond to any particular tension amount at each setting. It is there just as a handy reference. Barry
  14. I usually use the FD-#2/0 spirals for most of my portrait work and the FD-UR for most everything else. I almost never use anything larger than a #5 but I also have a set of thick wood blades that I use for cutting toy parts from 2x4 material. Those give me more control than the bandsaw. Barry
  15. The lifter works great. I purchased one about 1 1/2 years ago and haven't looked back. Saves a bunch of time when you have 500+ piercing cuts to do. Took about 10 minutes to install. Barry
  16. Nice job on that Richard. It's a great feeling when you get requests for more of something. Barry
  17. I have always been successful printing out the pattern and attaching it to the wood using spray adhesive. When it comes time to remove the pattern, I usually use some mineral spirits with a foam brush to really soak the pattern down and then after about 2 minutes or so the pattern comes right off. Barry
  18. Looks like a pretty good mod there Gary. I might have to try this myself. I've been using appliance bulbs for a while yet, but they get really hot. Barry
  19. Great job on this. Love the lettering as well. Barry
  20. Nicely done. It's great to know that there are still plenty of people out there that appreciate a good quality handmade toy over something needing batteries. Barry
  21. Nice job on these Keefie. They turned out really well. Barry
  22. Great job on that cross. I'm sure your friend will love it. Barry
  23. Very nice job. It looks great. Barry
  24. You are going to love this saw! I upgraded from a Craftsman a few years back and couldn't believe the difference. Enjoy Barry
  25. Excellent job on this cutting. I can see why you did it at the size you did. Nice job. Barry
