Can not believe the Grizzly is that expensive for that saw. Wow. You are seeing the same thing happening now with the excaliber and all the clones of this saw which is basically the Dewalt design. Slap a different sticker on the side of these saws and they come off the same line.

Lowes has the same saw under the Porta Cable name for less. It is the Dremel saw that is why it says all dremel tools can plug into the side.

That is basically the old Dremel saw. I would not recommend that saw. You get into problems with saws that can take pinned and unpinned blades. Stay away from them saws. Most people when they look for a saw do not realize the lack of room under the table to work the blade and the type of blade holders. That saw is tight under there. Now I am not telling you to spend big dollars on a professional saw but there are better choices out there. I have scrolled on the Ryobi saw and it is not one I would buy but alot better than that saw. Just an opinion and it is my opinion.

I think someone mentioned it before but what I do is just use a drill bit to the size needed. Who is going to see if they are perfect round or not. Sometimes I will drill them out and maybe run a blade through to make it oval or add shape. But start with a drill bit. You have to drill it anyway. That came out real nice. Thanks for showing.

I too at one time wanted to get into intarsia work. Bought a whole bunch of books but never pursued it. I have all the tools for it but just do not have the artistic side needed. I can not envision art in 3D. I am a flat woodworker. Love to look at it though and some amazing people do work that is unthinkable. That wolf Rolf looks great.

For some reason Wolf items are popular. I have sold 2 at the last show this year and a few last year of a wolf clock. It is in the photo at the bottom right corner. Sorry I do not have a better photo at this time. But I put a wolf clock in it and that is the clincher. Can't seem to find the photo. Will look elsewhere.

My go to blade for up to 3/4" stock is a #5 blade and the trick with thicker wood is you need to let the saw do the work even more so. You are cutting more material and those tiny teeth need to clear the saw dust. You can try a blade with less teeth. But 3/4" should not be hard to cut at all. Step up to 1" and now things get interesting.

Many times a thread goes off in different directions but that is the nature of forums. It happens all the time and will continue. You may not do it but it will happen. Just like a live conversation with people. I bet you do not stop talking to the person if your conversation goes in a different direction. The other part of your thread about is something that too can not be helped. When we all type the words there is no way to promote the true feeling of those words. I am guilty of both these things and as much as I try to avoid it happens and I am who I am. Each of us have our own style and just the mannerisms of the way we speak. Many times not intentional but everyone may interpret those words differently. I bet these words are being interpreted as demeaning but all they are are my thoughts. I try to be helpful when I can. I like to share my experiences too. How they come off and opinions formed are up to the reader. I hope you posted this thread to draw some response and if not then you got one anyway. Kevin I can not compete with you guys so I better just shut up and get out of this thread. If you consider doing clocks is the same as cutting puzzles I am not going to convince you any different. I hope you too make 2000 clocks and 2000 puzzles and 2000 ornaments and sell completely out for the year 2018. That means economy is doing great and the stock market is rising where I will make my money Happy scrolling. May 2018 be your best year ever.

It seems like doing just puzzles would be boring.. but what's the difference of doing just clocks. Seriously???? Not sure what type clocks you do but no way am I doing 1600 clocks. Each clock I make is a different theme or design. I will make duplicates of 3 maybe 4 if they are a seller. Just had to post to this comment. Please do not group me with a puzzle maker. I am a clockmaker. Not too many people here focus on one thing from what I gather from reading past posts here. Have to do what makes you happy.

I do not need to go down to 6/0 so can not speak to them. 1/0 to 3/0 and #1 to #3 Never tried Pike. Trying to remember another brand I use to buy but was breaking them too fast and that is why I asked around and found these. Found an old package, they were called Mascot. Can not remember where I was buying them. I cut a quarter in half lengthwise on my Dewalt scrollsaw as a bet once and used 2 #1 antelope blades. Being you cut coins you know that metal is hard to cut. It is a mixture blend. I won the bet. Not an easy thing to do but the Dewalt was up to the task.

Oh how I remember those days also. The big thing was the blade clamps and Deltas corner of the market on them. They were built like a tank but required changing of belts for speed change and keeping oiled. Looking at that photo, that was not even the early ones that they had. But the memories and war of words of who had the best saw. Now there are so many more saws on the market and many are just clones with different paint colors. There use to be a couple that scrolled with a hand fret saw and the work they use to produce was amazing and you could not tell the difference. Brings back memories.

Good for you Iggy. One thing you said and I feel the exact same way. " I purposely don't talk about any of this in "money" form as I think that's just rude or sounds like bragging," I agree with this statement because so many factors go into making money and selling. We all do not live in the same area and we all do not put the same effort or same purpose into selling. Many just make for giving away and that is fine. We all scroll for different reasons. I am glad the topic spurred on some conversation. Makes for more interesting reading. May all have a very Merry Christmas and may the New Year bring good health and good fortunes to all.

Len I understand what you are saying and I agree Iggy does that for a living or at least part income and depends on it. All well and good. You know as well as I do there are people who turn pens for a living and they chase that golden dream of making it rich doing something they love. Great more power to them. At one time I too had those visions but realized I make more money in my day job and can not figure out the fickel market of buyers from year to year and to rely on this for family income is suicide. Health care, IRS taxes, doing shows and the wear and tear on your car as well as the body. Believe me, I have been there done that. It all goes away in time. He has a niche in puzzles. Not putting anyone's work down but if you want to make a project that is not time consuming and very forgiving then puzzles is the way to go and if if you do not finish them even faster. Hardly any pierce cutting with puzzles like he does so again time saved. They sell well for him as well as others and this is all good. But when you push yourself in anything the body does wear down. As I said I hope he sells more than he has made and has orders for a ton more. Hope this year is his best and next year even better. Hope he has to hire some people to keep up. Maybe he needs to go on Shark Tank and get one of the Sharks to invest. Take it to the next level. Kevin and all others who do what they do for a living weather it is scrolling or turning or crocheting good luck to you all. It is a tough fight each and every day and I am thankful I do not have to do what you do. My hobbies are just that hobbies. If I wanted a job I would have stayed working. If you are around machinery or working with dusts and toxic fumes please take care and do not operate machinery when tired. Bad things happen. Take care of the eyes and lungs. You only get one set. I have told the story before, I took on a customer order for 500 ornaments with great aspects of doing mayny more because she owned a couple stores. I did 200 and told her to find someone else. Not for me. We are all different have have different goals and one of mine is not to boar myself. I need variety in my hobbies. Military plaques, a couple different designs. Steve Good has some. I spoke with him and he said he will try to fit some occupational clocks in this year so will be looking for those. Want to make some vinyl record clocks this year. A couple billiard clocks I have in mind. Couple playing card clocks. Many different pens. Have so many of those ideas. Some banks. Couple different napkin holders. They are always good sellers. Will be getting away from the religious crosses this year. Will carry my bigger ones because I still need to sell them. Will be turning a couple new birdhouse ornaments. Golfer clocks I will be bringing back as well as my golf ball display rack. I have been asked for this so it is on my list. I need to bring back my heart shaped mirrors again. I am sure there will be other things that will come up. Will stay busy enough to keep me out of trouble.

Hey Iggy you are in no way irritating me. I hope you make and sell everyone you make. You know it will come to an end though as all projects do. Saturate the market and that is that. I challenge you to do 2000 puzzles this year. Why set the goal so low??? As long as you are enjoying yourself. Hope you are taking safety seriously when it comes to all that dust. I enjoy making many different projects. Challenges my mind more that just puzzles. My lathe takes up much of my time these days anyway. Good luck to you on both making and selling. I do mean that. At one time I used a magnifier for just a light source, now I can not scroll without it. Age does that someone told me.

Have been using those for years for edge gluing boards. They do work well. Make sure you pull the roller off and soak in water. I clean mine after each use. Easy to do.

Kevin I understand he is on a high and not sure how old he is but when you set goal numbers where do they stop. He does 1600 this year what is it next year 2000?? You become a slave unto yourself. You are whipping yourself and for what. One day you wake up and it maybe all gone. Time is a precious commodity. Never will I put myself in a position to have to work 24 hours a day to meet fictitious numbers. I give him the credit he has that ambition but also feel sorry. Yes everyone is wired different as someone said but deep down you have to know when to say UNCLE too. Wish him and all others that scroll for pace good luck.
