  1. Follow directions. Make sure your project is on a very level surface. Practice on several small items. Generally a little goes a long way. My two cents.
  2. Welcome from Ohio!
  3. Hope this makes sense...cut a slice out of the front of the pendulum piece (yellow, not so straight line in the photo), route a rabbit in the inside (above the yellow line) deep enough to place the plexiglass, then glue the front back on. Another alternative would be to fill the cavity with clear epoxy. I wouldn't do this but it could be done.
  4. I bought one for myself at Lowe's Christmas sale. Love and it even has a digital level.
  5. 1/4" bb ply, only the good stuff. I use Aleens tacky glue, attach picture, and get all air bubbles out, I use a J-roller for this. I coat with Triple Thick Glaze from Rustoleum, I think. Let the glue dry over night and give the finish a day to dry.
  6. Maybe sand the back of the board first, attach a mirror image of the pattern to the back and scroll. I've never done this but it should work. With the right blade there shouldn't be much to clean up. I'd also glue a backer board to the finished project. I've had small pieces break off just from light handling.
  7. You should feed the poor thing.
  8. I tried that once. I'm no longer allowed in Lowe's.
  9. You did a great job! Thanks for sharing.
  10. Welcome back Sherry! Part of the fun of scrolling is not following the lines...unless your are doing intarsia. Returns are always welcome here.
  11. It was such a pleasure to have her I didn't want to send her back.
  12. Definitely! She started twirling a stick. I asked had ever seen a baton. She said, "What's a baton?" We sat and watched youtube videos of baton twirlers for almost an hour. She loved the fire batons. I told her my sister used to twirl a fire baton. Guess what she wants for her birthday? Yup, I opened a can of worms.
  13. Made for granddaughter. Bragging more on my granddaughter than the scroll work. Had her for a few days. What a treat!
  14. Let's play 20 questions. Is it a girl?
  15. Welcome from Ohio! I'd buy both. The Hawk probably is a cheap repair and reliable machine. When I retire I'll probably get a second saw but I don't do enough now to justify it. Good luck on your venture and don't fret about the saws.
  16. I like the isea. But one question, what is a whiskey smoker?
  17. This question comes up a lot. Maybe @Travis could add these links to the Resources section or someone could compile a list to be added.
  18. Right now it's mostly hardwoods. But there are times when I do portraits in BB ply.
  19. I found a board in my woodpile that I think is purpleheart. It's been a long time since I've worked with it. The outside looks like purpleheart but the inside has no purple color. I know purpleheart will darken with exposer to air/light but was surprised to see this inside. I've getting ready to turn a pen with it and it will be interesting to see it change. Can anyone tell me if they've seen purpleheart look like this beneath the exposed surface? It also smells pretty bad when cut. I'll have my dust mask ready when I turn this stuff. Top photo is inside and bottom photo is outside.
  20. Excellent work.
  21. Welcome from Ohio!

50/50 boiled linseed oil and mineral spirit. I use it all the time. If you keep it in a small sealed container (small mason jar works) it'll last a long time. If it ever seems to get a little thick, just add a little more mineral spirit.
  23. Sweet! The color is a nice touch.
  24. I found a member of this forum @Chrisc on the Isle of Wight. He hasn't visited this site since 2018 but you may still be able to send him a private message with your request.
  25. There use to be a members map on this site that you could see who was nearby, but that has gone away. I'd love to have it back.
