  1. This is real dedicated craftsmanship to tackle one of these !
  2. Thanks trevor, yeah the customers will but things thru the mill .You never know what they'll do to it .One lady dropped her keychain and it broke immediatly.Another broke a key chain by taking off the ring and snaped it.Another one took the ring off and painted the keychan with finger nail polish and when putting the ring back on broke the keychain.I replaced them all free just to make things good for them and keep them happy.accidents happen.out of 500 plus keychains that was the only problems i heard about.
  3. Most interesting box Trevor. You did your homework on this piece. What a concept ,imagine that and all done on a scroll saw.!This ones a ten!
  4. Your so creative Jim,your customer must love you!You really dig to get the best of the best before you start a project.Time is money and you don't waste either!these round box's will make a great addition to some one 's office or home for small treasures and such.Another fine job from one of ssv's best!

  6. Thanks Glenn,I'm happy i stuck my nose out and got my feet wet in metal cutting now!More coals in the fire now.I seen a metal version of the last supper on a wall in a office i was in last month. It Looked real nice and the copper ,aluminum and i forget what else colored metals intarsias looked real nice.I thought they had done there's with a tin snips, not thinking that it's possiabe to do it with a scroll saw.
  7. Yes Yes DW, i've in the last 3 years painted just short of 800 of these beach scene names .I was giving them away with my flyer attached to the back tring to get new customers but only one called for some work.I thought making a good first impression would give me an edge ,but the recesson took it's toll on everybody.i was doing over 31 things to each letter which took a good 40 minutes to do.This ones about 4 hours . thanks for looking!
  8. Here's a name i did a while back,probably 3 years ago.i dug it out of a box and triple clear coated it.3/4 plywood 4.5" tall x over 2' long.i forgot where she worked .
  9. Realfez, Mike and Chris Glad you liked the info.Lots of times i'd like someone to elaberate on what's going on in therir project so i can learn more but all we have to do is ask!I was excited at having another notch in my belt learning more things to do with a scroll saw. Wish i could take better pictures!
  10. Hey ya'll,this one started out tough and i did'nt thing i was going to get very far.I snapped two blades quick as a wink and had to figure out quick what the problem was.I used a piece of aluminum which turned out to be stainless steel! It was .60 thick.I guess that's 60 thousandth's.I used flying dutchmans jeweler blades FD-J#3 @45 teeth per inch andFD-J #3 @64 teeth per inch both are 3/0 blades.I started out with the 64 t.p.i. thinking the metal was aluminum but realized i was wrong.so i went to the 45 t.p.i. instead.Tha machine was tryed at various speeds because holding on to the keychain i could feel the heat build up quick with the 64 t.p.i. the 45 t.p.i. was much better at disapateing the head build up and run much cooler and the blade breakage stopped. The dw788 was finally set at 3.4 speed on the speed dial less than half way between the 3 and the 4 numbers.Doing detail in metal was fun and all the wood scrolling skills applyed here as well. Doing the letters were more fun and in the tight corners pushing back on the blade to make a turn was a breeze. The machine never slowed down and my cutting speed was like going thru a school zone at half speed.Susie got an oak keychain today .200 thick and broke it in seconds trying to put it on her key's.She wanted a thin one so that's what she got. Then i got a brain storm to try it in thin metal. So the rest is history and a first for me.I think coin cutting is in the very near future, maybe a susie cut into a quarter or half dollar for a neckless, who knows what i'll think of!
  11. Hi altman, good question!I never thought i'd like to have my saw on an angle but i tryed it and love it.not only doe's it make it much easyer too see what your cutting but it helps keep your back alineed for less stress and strain scrolling. This is a creature comfort and the angle you tilt your saw is what ever you like.2" is fine for me but more is allways better.I sit when i scroll so the pattern acually face's me which is a good thing.More saw dust ends up on my lap but for the benifit's i can't complain.i laughed about useing a foot switch but tryed it and would not be with out one now. It's better to try and fail then not try at all.but all the tips and tricks i've learned here really make for easyer scrolling!if you look on travis's gallery you can see his scroll saw on an angle.
  12. Run91 ,Robert ,that is some piece of work you've done there..I is imaculate in design and the cuting skills are inpecable! You must be a relaxed person to drum out that kind of work after a long lay off of scrolling.I've been out of it for 3 months and after 4 years of steady scrolling i could not even attempt to try this project.all i can say is W O W ! Your g o o d!

  22. Now that's useing your noggin.Keeping something simple tends to make us scrach our heads at what to do .This appears to be quick and simple !I'm in favor of this brainstorm as i can't rout picture frames where i live. This solved the problem big time.My neighbor just cut down all of his bamboo ,but they were way to thick for my use. This idea of yours will bring the radar out in my travels for a simalar stock to use for frameing scroll work .Thank you!John
