This wobble that my drill press has.. makes it tough to drill the small holes in the right spot.. not saying the grizzly is a bad drill at all.. but i won't buy another one without personal inspection after running around town a few weeks ago and finding a lot of the new drill presses have a lot of slop in them as well.. If you pull the lever down just slightly to make the drill head come out of the "parked" position.. grab old of the chuck or shaft that the chuck is affixed to.. see how much slop is in it.. my Delta has quite a lot and the farther I lower it the worst it gets... While the new drills aren't quite as bad.. there sure is a considerable difference between this and a higher end drill too.. There is a small bench style at one local store that has virtually no slop at all... but it's also a $300 drill press.. LOL
-
I've really considered buying this too.. and torn between it and the Dremel with router attachment... and the price of the Seyco drill isn't all that bad when you consider the price of both the Dremel tool and the router attachment.. as I don't already have a Dremel.. well I did.. but it burned up with not much use.. so did the other three or four that I've owned.. so in my experience with Dremels.. I'm not totally sold on it. while many claim to love theirs.. I might have to look into the jewelers drill as mentioned by Dee.. that price sounds too good to be true.. so I'll be investigating that.. never heard of one..
-
This is why I'm kind of looking for another drill press... well actually I think the one I have will be fine for several more years if I just put my forestner bit in it and leave it set up for drilling clocks.. What I planning to do is get me a dremel with a plunge router attachment for drilling the small starter holes... then I won't have an issue with figuring out how to get holes drilled into the center area of the larger projects..

Funny how we talk about this yesterday and not on my local news is this topic.. Interesting read for me anyway.. on how and why they call.. they also talk about this robokiller app.. and another one called nomorerobo.. I went to my apps store on my iphone and.. I don;t see anywhere on it that said anything about it costing money.. but I don't know since I don't use many apps other than the etsy and amazon seller apps and my bookkeeping app.. Now that I think about it... I should deduct my phone bill on my business as I do use it more for business than I do for personal use.. Hmmm Anyway if you want to see the news story I'll include the link.. https://www.woodtv.com/news/target-8/fighting-back-against-illegal-robocalls/1575131948

If it were painted gray and had delta stickers on it I''d swear it the same drill as mine... I've been wanting a new drill press or at least a better one.. mines getting quite worn out and quite a lot of sloppiness to it..

I believe cell phones have a set up option where they wont accept any calls not listed in your address book.. I know i did this in the past on older phones.. but now that my kids are bigger and driving etc.. I pick up if it's in a local area code as sometimes they'll call from a friends phone cause their phone battery is dead or for whatever reason.. LOL...

I actually like the look of the loose framed stuff from sue mey... Though I've never actually done this yet.. it is one of the things on my to do list.. She has quite a few loose framed patterns that I'd like to do one day.. I added a link to one of the loose framed items she has just to show you a picture of how they look and are made.. https://www.scrollsawartist.com/loose-framed-nature-scene-with-eagle.html

Buying And Selling Online With Tax Laws Getting Crazy
kmmcrafts replied to kmmcrafts's topic in General Scroll Sawing
It is a hassle... I have a accountant that does all my stuff... in fact.. she encourages me to give any of the crap to her and she takes care of it free of charge.. it's part of me hiring her to begin with.. which around here.. every other accountant charges you for anything additional for anything besides filing the taxes.. She specializes for small business's not just everybody.. It's sad to me that people are scared to "try" to make money simply because of the taxes.. I guess you have to weigh out your options etc.. but taxes are something that is in every day life whether you are self employed or an employee.. either way you should be keeping good records.. especially those that fill out the long form.. I use Quicken online for small business's.. It syncs with my online stores and PayPal.. so any sale or spending that's done online.. is automatically entered.. I have to manually enter any of my in person sales / purchases unless they pay by credit card.. but I could sync my bank to it too then I wouldn't need to manual enter anything... but I don't use a special account for the business yet so I haven't done that... I keep tabs on it constantly to be sure things are actually getting entered etc. I can snap a photo of my receipts with my cell phone and upload them to the system... It also uses GPS to keep track of travel miles for tax credit / deductions etc.. Well worth the $5 a month I pay for that as I use to do it manually and would spend more than a couple hours a month entering all the info.. Now I have a couple more hours a month to spend on the Village -
Buying And Selling Online With Tax Laws Getting Crazy
kmmcrafts replied to kmmcrafts's topic in General Scroll Sawing
My state sales tax people have been messing with me ever since I started this business.. Every year they send out a letter saying they either didn't get my money or that I never filed... LOL So every year.. usually around August.. I have to fill out the form with a copy of my filed taxes forms and a copy of my cleared check from the bank.. 4 years in a row now... BUT.. here is the kicker for this year.. I did the above.. then near the end of Oct.. I got another letter saying I owed them the whopping $7.48 I had already paid + $790 penalty fee for not reporting or paying. Didn't take me long to get on the phone and give them a call that time.. Usually I just mail the thing in with all the copies needed.. so I never call them.. I told the lady on the phone they maybe getting a bill from me for the 4 years worth of stamps and charges from me having to copy my records for them when they already have them.. plus my hours worth of wages down time waiting for 40 minutes on the phone for a real person.... She took care of it right on the phone and I got a correction letter in the mail for my records... Stupid idiots.. I think they spent more money than I paid them for all the dumb paperwork on their own mistake.... I think the issue is someone isn't doing their job of entering the info into the system.. so another department has to send out the notice to me etc etc.. They need to be picking on someone else that has a considerable amount for their unpaid bill.. They spend more money in paper work and mailing cost sending those letters out etc.. to me.. I don't sell a lot inside my state.. so the $7.48 is the most mine has been yet.. I wonder how many business's just pay again.. makes me wonder if they are just trying to cheat out some cash on some new business's hoping they won't figure it out.. LOL I don't really care and it hasn't bothered me until I see that they seem to think they can charge that outrageous penalty off of a $8 amount that was owed.. -
My guess is the blade is hot and the glue is sticking to the bottom side of the wood ( very thin film ) and as you spin the wood around it's probably still warm and gooey until it hits the cool table top and then sticking to the table.. I've had the same thing before... I only ever got that with my DeWalt when running it on or near high speed.. The DeWalt SPM is faster than any of the other saws I have.. others top out at 1500 SPM and the DeWalt is 1750 SPM I've also had this with solid wood where the sap if not super dried out.. would do the same thing
-
I've had it happen too... BUT.. It had nothing to do with the shelf liner nor the pattern... some goofball put the blade in upside down so the blade was lifting off the liner/pattern... I'm not sayin who did that though.. Ray you stick the shipping label direct to the wood? That was what my original plan was when I started out to be... but the one batch I got was not sticky enough.. next batch I got once it stuck to something... especially something you didn't want it to stick to... it was stuck good.. no getting that off in one piece.. so i still use the liner.. or tape...

This little clip I copied from a business news site I follow.. Like I've said in the past... Doing ANY business Buying Or Selling... is going to get real interesting for a lot of folks... especially ones that have been avoiding sales and use tax laws... Then you have customs for those international sales / purchases... "This is seriously getting out of hand. I rec’d a tax bill for sales tax on product I imported from Mexico two years ago. $700 originally, turned into $1256. Now, here’s news: My housekeeper bought two sweatshirts on eBay 4 years ago. Cost of the shirts: $8 each + $0.99 shipping. Total of $16.99. SHE just got a sales tax bill from NYS for $263 for sales tax + penalties & interest. The NY source of this info? US Customs. I’m expecting an eBy bill from them shortly…. Tax guy says “State sponsored extortion.” This could spread."

EX-21 Question....Speed control...

Someone else had this problem not too long ago.. Maybe some info in this posting -
Okay I couldn’t wait and finished sanding then dipped in blo. Always amazed at the difference blo or Danish oil does to the wood grain. Poor lighting in my loft so hope the photo shows it good enough.
-
Well since I’m out here working on these a bit and had my camera handy. Here is a picture of the coasters I’m making. Just need to sand the pointed edges off slightly to make them feel better in your hand. Then I’ll probably be dipping them into blo and top coating in a few weeks. I have another batch just like this one ready to glue up and make as I’m making two sets. Can’t make anymore that’ll match anyway as I’m outta scraps of these type of lumber.

Thanks JT, This box is what I was thinking of doing with just the dowels.... I sometimes wish I'd have kept my lathe.. I could see many great uses for it now that I sold it last summer, LOL I had it for several years and just never used it.. The marbles been rolling around in my head with lot of ideas.. I don't know that I'll make any more or not though.. But a lot of inlay ideas have came to mind.. We'll see what my brother-inlaws reaction and what he says about them and maybe I'll give more of them a try.. if this set turns out, LOL

Well I just looked and there doesn't seem to be much patterns being posted anymore... I don't do facebook much and am not active at all on there.. I remember several groups having a lot of nice patterns but I don't see them anymore.. maybe they closed the groups down.. maybe they took me off it because I wasn't active...I don't know.. This is a list of the groups I'm a member of... but like I said.. I don't do FB much anymore.. and I don't seem to find the patterns I recall them having.. maybe looking in the wrong spots.. Oh.. the mature one is loaded with patterns.. but if you're easily offended... don't go there, LOL Some good patterns in there but also some that are a little more than I want to see.. I was trying to think if what to put on the bottom.. cork never crossed my mind.. I'll have to see if I can find some.. as I didn't really like the idea of just leaving it wood.. When you make them do you route out a spot on them for the moister to go to so it doesn't run over the edges? Was looking on etsy and most all I seen was plain ol flat on top and nothing on the bottom to keep it from scratching the surface it sets on.. I'm thinking I might make a sort of box or something to be a home for them on the table.. just some simple little holder.. maybe a square shape with just some dowels on the corners.. any ideas on that,? LOL.. As for the finish.. I was kinda thinking about just dipping them in Danish oil to make the wood grain pop.. but not sure about top coating with the water based stuff if I do that.. but I do want to make the grain pop like the danish oil or the 50/50 BLO and Mineral Spirits.. I may need to buy some oil based poly to do that I'm thinking..
-
Also quite a few Facebook groups with a lot of free pattern designs..
-
Awesome!! That is what I have.. Guess I don't need to go out and buy anything special.. I didn't know this would be decent stuff for the coasters..
-
Good luck Iggy... Do you still sell ornaments or did that not work out well for you? Just thinking if you need inventory.. cutting things that can be stack cut is the way to get a lot of inventory fairly quick..
-
Come to think of it.. mine didn't either at first.. I've had a rattle back there for some time and figured it was bearings again.. maybe that screw has worked loose and there is no tension or drag whatsoever on that.. Hmm.. I haven't used my DeWalt in about a year now.. actually close to 2 years but did use it last year for the holiday orders that came in.. because I was more comfortable with that saw... as the Hawks and Excalibur was new to me and just didn't have the "feel" for them yet.. I bought all new bearing and sleeves for the whole saw.. and had big plans to rebuild the DeWalt this summer.... guess what? Haven't even touched it, LOL..
-
Same one you have.. and yeah sometimes you do have to lift it a little.. sometimes not.. Maybe you need more tension.. I believe there is different spots to put the spring for more or less tension on it.. I know I do have to push down on the clamp area when installing my blade because it doesn't always drop all the way back down for a good blade tension..
