It's actually a puzzle pattern that I chose to size it smaller for a ornament.. and of coarse.. not cut out all the pieces... Pattern can be purchased from Scott at woodcraftbyscott.com

Amazon sales have been keeping me busy so I haven't made much "New" stuff lately.. did find time to finish up these clocks today.. and cut the Bacon LOL

I think that how often you need to change the filters will vary a great deal from one shop to the next.. some folks may not have any kind of dust collection at the tool source while other may have and not have much dust floating around.. To answer your question though.. I've had mine up just a couple of weeks.. and I noticed the outer filter is getting quite dirty already... I work quite a lot out in the shop too though.. and i don't really have much of a dust collection system set up yet so it might need cleaned more often that other shops would need to.. I believe you can just take the outer filter out and tap the loose dust off it or blow it out with a air hose ( outside of coarse otherwise whats the purpose of having the filtration ).. or maybe use a vacuum on it..I've read where people have been 10 years on that inner filter.. and I believe you can just wash those.. I think mine is a cloth type filter..

Does your Fein have a variable speed? I talked with the Festool Rep during a demo of their vac.. and it had a variable speed or quiet mode so to speak.. and the vac was quieter on the low setting.. which still had quite a lot of suction.. I often wondered how much that would affect the noise with the 3/4" piping.. I'm planning to purchase a vac soon.. and I see some of the Fein vacs have the lower speed as well.. just wondered if yours does and if it helps to reduce the noise..

Okay, so I did some experimenting today while cutting some ornaments... I just zip tied my 2.5" vac hose to my blade holder tray thing on my Hawk on the left side of it.. I then hooked up the vac to the foot switch and cut out a stack of 4 ornaments... It got about 95% of the dust.. and I didn't have the hose up close to the blade at all as I was trying to get it to be at the edge of the saw table so it might get the dust blown over to that side from the saws dust blower.. but that ended up ( most of it anyway ) blowing past the opening and landing on top of the hose back about 4 -5 inch past the hose end.. I'm thinking one doesn't need to go o such a small hose that is going to create so much more noise... I am thinking about just running a open hose with a T and a elbow.. the one opening would go to the underside near the blade.. the other end would come up to about the table height to hopefully get the dust on the top side that is blown over to the side by the blower... I may have to do a flex hose for the top to get closer to the blade and just not use the saws dust blower.. either way.. just thought I'd share the info about how just having the vac hose off to the side picked up much of the dust.. Maybe I'll have to buy some of the smaller flex hose to get the best possible collection.. but I really o not want to add to the noise level by going down to such a small hose..

They have woodburning patterns that can "supposedly " be easy to follow just like scroll saw patterns... I don't know how hard they might be to do as I haven't tried them yet.. I only use the burner for personalizing ornaments and things..I hope to give a portrait burned project a try one day..

I have a cheap one that doesn't have any kind of temp change dial and am able to use it with Okay results... now... I also just recently bought at a estate sale a very nice Detail Master with a few pens.. actually a lot of pens.. but that said.. if you watch some videos and do some reading.. you'll find that there really is only a couple different pens that is really even needed.. If you buy a new unit.. most come with a choice of a couple different pens... Many used ones with several pens available on eBay.. Unfortunately.. I haven't found anywhere to buy the talent though so I suppose you need to make your own..

Where are you guys buying the large blue flex hose stuff from? I am planing to buy a higher end vacuum around the holidays and really wanting to set up this type of dust collection on all my saws.. so I can just move the hose from one saw to the next.. though now days I'm pretty much only using the Hawks and Excalibur.. and liking the Excalibur more and more now that I put those Pegas chucks on it..

Brad, Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling all that great.. I sure hope you can get to feeling better and be able to get out in the shop to make some sawdust... I've been wondering the last few weeks where you been and how you been doing.. Reading through the post here.. and Ray mentioned about wood carving.. I've never tried that but I also just wanted to say that one can do wonderful woodwork with just a cheap ol wood burning kit too... which is something you can probably do right in the house without making a big sawdust mess.. though they might smell up the house like a campfire you may want to put a fan in the window and suck the smoke out.. anyway.. just a thought.. Praying for you to get to feeling better

Yeah, I see your problem.. I was going to say.. mine has feet on it... and can set on a bench or floor.. not quite sure how well one would work down low.. but in looking at your work area... doesn't appear to be much floor space either.. BTW, I have the same drill press I think.. sure looks like mine anyway.. I think it's a 8 or 10" Delta? Gave $2 for mine at a old tractor swap meet about 10 years ago.. I didn't get a chuck with it but my friend had one he gave me.. Mines pretty well worn and has plenty of run out.. but does what I need for the most part..

Well I was browsing the FB marketplace ads last night and ran across this same saw.. I messaged the seller through there ad.. and they messaged back this morning and said it had sold... Grrr hate when people don't remove ads or at least mark them sold... I really wasn't planning to buy anyway unless they was going to offer a great deal.. kind of wanted to look it over.. but no need to know anyway.. LOL Really just wanting a newer BM series I think.. and have spotted a couple but distance is a bit far.. might have to think it over a bit.. LOL

Just put a band aid on it, I'd certainly try making some sort of repair on it.. Maybe someone has a perfect idea on how to repair this.. I'd probably try to take some of the sawdust from cutting it ( same wood ) and mix up some with glue o make a homemade wood filler so to speak.. and try filling it in.. You may need to re-cut the corner of the M out a little.. This will still be a different look in that spot.. but wouldn't be so noticeable.. If you paint it it'd hide that spot if you fill it like I mentioned.. Also see what other say.. they may have a better idea..

Yep... heat gun user here as well... but that said.. I've found also that they peel off harder in different temps.. If you don't have a heat gun... just set it out in the sun for 20 minutes or so.. that will also help some.. or the wife's hair dryer...

I agree with Al... The instructions with mine say to keep it a minimum of 3 feet from any obstruction for best performance.. including shop lights, garage doors etc.. I realize that would be almost impossible to do in a very small shop, LOL but I think where you have it placed is really restricting its use considerably. I wanted to put mine right in the corner where all my saws are.. but then it's just in the corner with a wall on two sides.. so figured that probably wouldn't work out too well.. seems to be doing great where it's at..

I've done this on some tight inside cuts where hand sanding wouldn't work..

Just paint the blades.. ... then you can still use the black ink from your printer.. I've cut both red and black... and honestly I like the black... That said though.. it really is dependent on what magnifier light I'm using... My newer LED replacement bulbs light up the black line perfectly but makes the red lines awful bright and kinda strains the eyes.. guess I'm just the odd ball and probably use to the black since I've cut black for the last 14 or so years, LOL

That's a cool little display.. I display my ornaments in clear top gift boxes.. but I rarely do shows.. every now and then I do a church craft show because I somehow let the organizers talk me into it.. LOL... Thing is.. I need craft shows to be in the off season.. not when I'm busy selling online... I've had a few instances where I sold items online that also sold in person at the show.. so I just keep plucking away with the online... then I don't have to fool with set up take down etc... I sell most of my ornaments at $14 - 20 range.. but to make it simple for cash and not having to deal with a lot of change.. I sold them at the shows for $10.. and did really well.. I see a lot of sellers online selling them anywhere from $5 - 10 - 12 etc.. some are starting to get up to my rice range and some sell for a little more than I do now days.. If I was selling at crafts shows I might do 10 each or two for 15.. or something similar to that.. doing those kinds of things helps sell more.. because.. well they see one they like and they always want a bargain.. the second one is half price so they're going to look at all you have.. LOL or you could do 10 each or 17 for two.. whatever works for you.. just making a second one deal sort of makes the customer look through them all a little better.. I made a set of the Stackaloos.. and ordered plans for one of the hot rod cars a few years ago... I never did make the car.. lots of small cutout pieces and I was just too busy to do it.. They have a lot of cool projects... however my kids are grown, and I'm not too enthused about trying to sell toys as there are a lot of conflicting grey area rules that I never really looked a lot into for selling toys...and I always felt that selling toys was a higher liability risk than say.. clocks and ornaments etc...

I've probably used about 8 cans in my life.. I print my patterns on self adhesive full sheet shipping labels.. less mess.. just peel and stick.. I do keep a can of spray adhesive around for those patterns I rarely do that happen to be larger than a sheet of adhesive paper... my last can lasted about 4 years.. LOL

Maybe that is why he is buying the drafters chair with the caster wheels on it... then you can chase it around the shop while sawing,

Hawk makes a wheel chair accessible stand.. just basically a wide front stance.. looks like it'd take up a lot of room though.. at first I didn't like my Hawk stand compared to my DeWalt three leg stand that I was so used to.. as well as my DeWalt is on quite an angle / tilted that I really loved.. I've tried to raise the back of my Hawk saws... and my Excalibur.. only ended up picking up a lot of vibration... so I put them back level.. Now that I've been using these saws quite a lot over the last 1.5 years and not using my dewalt much at all.. I've grown used to them.. though if / when I do actually sit at my DeWalt.. I do feel more comfortable.. Maybe one day I'll fuss with tilting the other saws again.. when I have more time to tinker around with it.. i'm sure I can probably get the vibration down to a minimum if I took some time to tune the stand and whatever...

I cannot believe how much dust mine has already collected.. You'll be happy with it I'm sure..

Ray, little story about me and my wheeling and dealing, LOL... I don't remember doing this but my parents tell the story all the time... I was the youngest of 7 boys... when I was about 4-5 ish years old I saved my allowance.. and my older bothers (oldest ones was teens and just driving) .. anyway.. they always spent all their money.. and I was always saving for that big expensive toy.. so before next allowance or their payday... at least one brother would be broke and want to borrow money for something.. i became the bank to them and caught on quickly.. they would borrow my money but they had to pay me back with a few extra $$ for the borrowing opportunity.. If one brother declined that deal another would bite on it before the next allowance came around.. My dad says I made like $100 or so in just a few months loaning money and making them pay extra back.. so.. just a little history about me and wheeling and dealing... LOL like I said.. I think I was born this way... Not too many deals in my life where I didn't figure out a way to come out ahead on deals.. yeah I've bought things that once I got them realized I'd have a hard time getting my money back... somehow I always manage to figure a way to do it..
