Couldn't one mix in poly to their 50/50 mix of BLO and mineral spirits to add some protection just as Tung oil and Danish oil do? Of coarse you'd have to figure out a mixing ratio of some sort.. I really like the 50/50 mix I made as it does make the grain pop and gives the wood a soft glow of sheen.. But I also like the fact that Danish oil has a sealer type of something in it.. and it does almost as nice a look.. I just think the BLO gives a slightly better look.. I'm not one that likes to spray a finish after I've already finished it. LOL

Thanks for the tip on dressing the screws.. I do this but never heard of the method.. I've never been an over tightener until I got my Excalibur... from day one straight out of the box I've had the loose tension / blade slippage issues with it.. always thought it was user error being a new to me saw.. But.. those clamps aren't that much different than the DeWalt that I had been using for the last 10 years. (which happens to have the original clamps and set screw /thumb screws in it ) and is still working flawless for me.. The saw itself has worn out twice and been rebuilt.. but clamps and hardware still the same.. I'm going to buy the Pegas clamps and see if this will take care of my issues.. Love the saw when the blade actually holds good, LOL..

I'm thinking the font used in the pendant that JT posted could solve part of the problem... Anyone know what font might be similar to that?

I'm looking forward to read responses as I know barely anything about finishing wood.. short of just dipping in Danish oil or using my homemade beeswax/mineral oil mixture.. JT seems to be the finishing expert I think.. as he's always giving great detailed info on finishing..

Yeah, I bought some aftermarket knobs for my older (first) Hawk as I kept breaking blades, I bought the round style like you have shown.. I personally didn't like them one bit.. I know others love them.. I think I'm just accustom to the standard 2 wing style ones as that's what I like.. I bet I'd like that other 4 winged type you have shown in the next to last photo of it on your saw.. But those round ones made me feel like I wasn't getting a grip on them to get them snugged up good.. so it made me keep over tighten them... My newer Hawk came with some steel knurled knobs which might have worked out okay other than the knob portion was quite small.. was maybe about a 1/8" larger than the actual threaded part.. and they made my hands hurt trying to grip that tiny little knob.. Thankfully it also came with the standard two wing style and those are what I use on it..

A week or so ago I asked in the pattern request section that I was looking for a medical assistant type Christmas ornament. Nobody knew of anything really, so I made my own... but... I don’t like it. Looking for some suggestions on how to design this to look more sementrical. I stretched the A out and made it fatter than the M to help with the uneven look to it. Not being much of a designer aside from throwing / merging images together or adding text etc. I just don’t know any way to design this thing to look right. Let me know if you might have a suggestion since I’m quite limited on pattern design I have no clue. Sometimes I’ve seen something not look quite right on paper but is fine in the wood so I test cut a stack of two. Photo below, personally in this case... I think it looked better on paper. Lol HELP

I got some of those knurled screws with my Hawk... and for me.. they are harder to use than the OEM wing style ones.. I took them out and replaced them with the original style. Now.. the knurled heads of these was quite small... maybe if they had a bigger head on them they'd bee better..

Yeah, I've never seen the gorilla spray before either.. not sure if anyone else here might of tried it.. but I figured since they was out of the one I normally use and this was the cheapest stuff they had.. thought I'd give it a try.. I'll post a report once I use it.. just note.. it might be some time because I don't use the spray glues very often.

Tip if you’re buying this stuff at your local Walmart. Get it in the hardware section of the store rather than the crafts section as the crafts section is typically smaller cans and higher prices. They didn’t carry the one I typically use so I got the gorilla one. Anyone use this. Note the price difference in the pictures below. Also note, this can of 3M 77 is the one I have had issues with nozzles

Yeah Ray, I was thinking about doing just that if I hadn't gotten any replies.. Just figured someone might have tried the OEM Excalibur thumb screws and knew something about it.. Also just figured someone else may have talked to Pegas before buying them.. $100 is a lot of $$ if you can't get replacement parts for them.. granted they are made better and whatnot but I'm sure someone will wear out either a thumb screw or the tension lever sooner or later... The tension lever looks different than the OEM one so I assume they are special to the Pegas clamp.. also read the thumb screws are also different size.. so also probably a Pegas only part.. The webs sites selling these should list the parts if they are Pegas only parts.. apparently everyone assumed these parts was the same and haven't questioned it.. Maybe they are not different.. I don't know because I haven't bought a set yet.. All the reviews are geared toward the performance of the clamp.. nothing is mentioned about replacement parts for the clamps.. Probably just too new and nobody has needed parts yet..

Apparently no body knows if the screws are the same or not.. I have a set of these clamps in my shopping cart ready to buy.. My issue is.. I've read the set screw and thumb screws are different from the OEM ones.. I have yet seen the sites that sell these offer any parts for them.. ( Ie Thumb screws and tension levers ect.) NOT about to buy a $100 clamp set that you can't get parts for easily..

Those of you that bought the new blade chucks... are the thumb screws etc the same? Specifically the inserts that go into the end of the thumb screw? While looking at the sites that sell these I run across some reviews on the pegas clamp.. one person asked if they sell replacement inserts because they damaged one, they asked if the site sold them as they was different than the OEM ones.. Now I'm not one that is typically a over tightener on those thumb screws etc.. Have all the originals in my DeWalt after a lot of use for 10 years doing production fretwork.. rebuilt the saw a couple times but the clamping system is still what came with my saw.. I just wondered since many of you replace these a lot.. might be worth looking into before a need arises and one assumes they are the same.... Maybe they are the same... I only asked because the review i read made me believe they are different..

Where are you all getting these clamps from? I was just searching and found some different prices etc..on sale at a site called qtena? Never heard of them before but on sale and with the shipping cost is much cheaper than anywhere else I've seen so far..

You folks keep talking about these clamp... making me really want to try one..

I used the elmers once when I asked my wife to get me a can in fact that was what my last can was.. I found after reading the instructions.. you have to shake it well and apply it heavy and never another issue with it...other than a 20oz can last as long as a 12oz of the 3m77 if that much LOL.. you go through it much faster

My experience is that there are two types of can the 3M 77 come in.. I used to have that problem with the cans I used to buy but the last can I bought was from a craft store ( not sure what one ) but the can label and colors was much different than that of the other cans.. I didn;t even realize it was 3M77 until I was using it one day.. its almost gone now and i'll need to get another can.. I think I want to try the 3M45 that has been talked about in the past.. but if I don't see it.. I'm looking for the red and white can.. not the dark brown /maroon / black can that I always had trouble with. Maybe they just updated the can and labels? either way this last can was the best one I ever had.. It's been a long time since i don't use the spray much.. if the pattern fits on a sheet of paper I just print on the full sheet shipping labels.. peel and stick..

I guess I didn't know they made a replacement upgrade for the DeWalt and Delta saws.. But I know they originally made them for the Excalibur... and I'm wondering if the light weight hype is more geared toward the Excalibur instead? I must say also that I've owned and used a DeWalt for a good 10 years doing production cutting of fretwork type projects.. When I bought the saw new I also ordered extra clamps because everyone was talking about the aluminum stripping out etc etc.. I still have my original clamps on my saw and working flawlessly.. maybe I'm just not over tightening the thumb screw and others are? I've used it enough to need new bearings and a rebuild a few times now.. but the blade clamps are still the originals..
