This happen not very far from where I live. I remember this on our local news. can't remember how long ago this was now.. within the last 3-5 years.. not recent for this one.. but happens every year I think.. not usually this bad though.. this was a bad one.. Most times these happen on the highway rather than the side roads.. typically inexperienced drivers or those in a hurry and going too fast for the conditions at hand.. Many times we get what they call white out conditions.. which is either snowing really hard in select areas ( typically lake effect snow ) or from wind that blows the loose snow around.. In these cases.. once one stops / slows down they don't see the cars in front of them until it's too late to stop on the slick roads..

JT, I have one of the pattern books that tells the story of how he got the idea and how everything took place.. I'd copy and post it but I'm sure the story is part of the copyright in the book.. Story is about a page and a half from the book.. good read.. on the history of them.. I'm pretty sure he was the original designer for these style puzzles..

Yes, I knew there was a site years ago that had these.. and Dales Puzzles is it.. I couldn't remember the name.. I bought several of his patterns several years ago.. but lost them in a hard dive crash.. I had most of the collection...and only got to make the Boxer and Great Dane ones before my drive crashed..

If you google woodimals there is a domain name woodimals.com.. but by clicking the web site actually takes you to Fox chapel web site.. That is because Jim sold out several years ago.. Not sure Jim is even around anymore.. this venture of his started after he retired.. and this was back in 1989.. There was also someone doing them called " Puzzimals" I don't have any info on who this was / is..

Jim Sweet started making them in 1989.. Not sure that he was the first.. seems to be several designers doing the same thing.. Edit to add.. He made the ones called Woodimals.. Those are the ones that Fox Chapel now sells.. They have disc with many particular categories (ie Dogs, Cats, Wildlife etc.. ) or a large disc with all those on one disc ( 445 ish patterns ).. I used a holiday coupon back in Dec.. and ordered the full disc for $80 shipped.. Think regular price was $145 Pretty impressive collection for not a lot of money..

Of all the places I've been.. which isn't too many places.. Tennessee has always been my wife and mines favorite... We aways said if we was to move south.. we like Tennessee.. Spent spring break in Gatlinburg about 7-8 years ago.. and two years ago we stayed in a cabin in Dale Hollow.. Cummins State park and hiked to the water fall was an awesome time that the whole family really enjoyed..

I live out in the boonies.. anyone that comes to my house says it's so peaceful and quiet out here... can hear the birds chirping.. hear old dead trees fall every now and then out in the woods.. which is all that is around me.. the beauty of the fresh fallen snow in the trees is breathtaking along with the cold air .. I grew up in this very house.. have only not lived here for 3 months of my life.. and that was right after I was married we had a small house we rented while looking for a place.. then my parents decided to sell.. probably because I wasn't here mowing the lawn every week.. I have a very large yard.. 4 hours of mowing on a commercial Z mower.. each time.. dad was 70 at that time and it was a bit much for him to keep up with.. No young boys around here with the pants hanging off their rear.. no loud thumpin stereos vibrating my house in the middle of the night.. If a car goes by.. it's either someone lost.. or a neighbor that lives a half mile down the road.. when a car does go by we always stand up to look who it is and wave.. usually the neighbor. Only down side is.. if I need a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk a car part or something.. the nearest store is 10 -12 mile away..

Thank you for those pictures, Gives me an idea of what I need to do to repair this.. I have replaced my lower blade holder plastic piece as shown in the one photo.. I also did that upgrade to the adjustable hose.. Just need to repair that tension mechanism I guess.. These Hawks are hard to beat.. very simple and reliable.. I'll give Bushton a call and get the parts ordered in the next few days..

I messed around with it this afternoon.. and what is happening is.. I'm hitting the set screw thinking I have the blade all the way back but it's not.. Figured it was user error.. Like I said.. I've only cut the couple ornaments out and that was it.. I need to get this thing set up and use it..

So you replace the lever? or just take the thing apart and replace that plastic bushing? I looked in my manual but the exploded parts view is a little less confusing as to what is really in there.. I'll have to call Bushton and talk to them.. I'm sure they know exactly whats going on and what I need to order.. Thanks JT

Yeah, I was just thinking it'd be a cool upgrade for the upper clamp to be mounted on a Dewalt / Ex type saw

JT, I was talking about the front cam lever.. not the lever at the back of the saw.. I do the same as you for that lever at the back.. the front cam lever is the one that pops up some after tension the blade on my old 220VS it's old 1993 with barrel style clamps.. My newer one that cam lever goes down and locks and the handle is right against the upper arm.. my old one you push it down but it raises back up a good 1/4 inch and while sawing comes up some more..

I notice that on my Hawk 220VS the tension lever somewhat pops back up some while sawing.. Anyone know of an adjustment for these older saws? My newer Ultra saw has a set screw type thing where I can adjust this.. Don't see that I this old saw.. and I'm thinking this would be part of the blade breakage issue.. as this moves up some the tension weakens slightly.. my Ultra locks down.. while this old 220 doesn't " Lock ".. Not sure if they locked like that new on the early ones or not.. but either way this one isn't right the way it loosens up the tension...

Have you seen the new Jet upper clamps? while the lower one still has the thumb screw.. just seems like the upper one would be a real nice advantage over the other styles.. But yeah I agree the old Delta style clamps were very nice too once you got used to them

Yeah, My EX21 I just bought a couple month ago.. If I push the blade all the way to the back of the upper clamp.. the thumb screw misses the blade.. so I have to fiddle with it to get it in a position where it will actually clamp the blade.. Probably some sort of adjustment, I don't know.. I been too busy with orders etc.. and too cold that I haven't even messed with it.. Figured I'd mess with it after the new year.. however between the cold and still quite busy with orders.. maybe January sales isn't going to slow down all that much this year..

Maybe nobody is familiar with the Jet upper clamp and how it clamps the blade and tensions it with just the one lever? I'd think this design would be an upgrade to a EX and Dewalt type saws.. Though you'd have to be a bottom feeder..

I have very limited experience with the EX saws.. but since I bought my new one I've only used it to cut out an ornament.. The only upgrade I could see that could use improvement is the set thumb screws could be positioned in a different spot.. as there is not stop to put the blade up against at the back of the clamp like most any other saw I've used has.. Maybe I don't have my saw set up right yet as it's still new to me.. but inserting a blade and trying to position the blade where the clamp will actually hit it is a pain in the butt.. if I can't get used to that then someone might get a good deal on a new ex21 LOL

Yeah I bought the replacement from Seyco.. Just the inserts.. so I'm still using the same thumb screws themselves.. just the ends was replaced..

Anyone tried to mount the new style Jet upper clamp onto a Excalibur or Dewalt type saw? The Jet uses the same style rocker arm assemblies etc.. I was looking at one of the Jet saws today and noticed that it seems like it would be a fairly easy swap / upgrade for someone that did a lot of fretwork type cutting.. I've been fascinated with the Jets new clamping mechanism.. and just wondered if anyone has tried it on another brand saw.. I've been searching for the clamp assembly but haven't found one online.. thought if cheap enough I'd give it a try

My DeWalt is 8 years old and never have replaced the clamps.. and that is 8 years of Allot of cutting.. as I'm not a casual scroll sawer. Replaced the thumb screws once...mainly because I tried sanding them and got them out of wack with a angle instead of being square..

Hawk ( Bushton ) sells a kit for the older saws that had just the clear hose.. which has everything needed to convert it to a Loc line.. so I assume you should be able to get something similar.. maybe from Hegner ( though probably a bit pricey from Hegner ).

Yeah, I'd be curious if Seyco will offer this.. does the new Seyco use this same style clamp?

I'm trying to figure out how this is going to work and wonder if we've mis-understand you... for instance the categories that have already been suggested could fit into many categories.. for instance Clocks, ornaments, and the other categories could all fall under Fretwork, compound cut, lathart etc etc.. which could get very complicated.. so I'm trying to understand what you are trying to accomplish.. before I can suggest anything..that isn't already there..
