Grizzly is a hit and miss for good prices.. I by my bigger equipment from them and I typically wait until they run the Holiday sales..
-
That didn't last long.. I just clicked the link and it says unavailable... I'm considering looking into factory direct purchase.. Probably the minimum order is a semi tractor full... Boy could I make a deal for my village friends though

I've done a lot of research on clocks over the last few years.. and at a small scale standpoint.. I'd purchase from woodworkingparts.com for movements... they are the USA made movements that clockparts.com charges the premium price for and they get them from the same suppliers.. Sloans is the place to get the clock inserts. which is also the same inserts as those others.. but cheaper cost.. I buy mine large scale from a company in China.. which are actually the same ones the suppliers above are selling.. but most people aren't looking to buy 500+ clocks at a pop either.. so the above places should be good sources at reasonable prices on a smaller scale..

65lbs According to the Home Depot site.. in the specifications..
-
Ed, the link I posted saysthe price is starting at $13 from these sellers below the product. but up near the top of the page it's showing similar items.. and has the Con-tact brand for 8.37... Amazon does do some region specific items.. so maybe you really do see the duck brand.. I see it too but not for 8.37.. I see it starting at 13.00
-
Hmm, got quiet all of a sudden... me thinks the internet is being overloaded with shelf liner searches... now the prices ill soar tomorrow.. better get those orders in tonight,
-
Also should mention... I've bought con-tact brand by mistake once at the local walmart.. and honestly didn't notice any difference..
-
He is seeing the con-tact brand in the top listings of similar items is my guess.. That is what I see when I type the numbers above in google search.. priced at the $8.37 https://www.amazon.com/Duck-1115496-Laminate-Adhesive-12-Inch/dp/B002AS9NC6

Same here in Michigan.. I've been lucky in that my brother and uncle own sawmills.. and they've been sawing a lot of ash before it just rots away.. so I've picked up a lot of odd and end pieces.. free.. got quite a stock pile right now.. my worry is a few years from now.. it could be quite expensive to get because of how much those little buggers damaged.. and it'll take years to get new trees to flourish enough to get some good lumber again..
-
I go through a lot of wood.. and I only use Cherry, Oak, Maple, Walnut, and Ash.. however recently I started lightly using Poplar... Since I go through so much wood.. I don't end up with a lot of scraps big enough for me to make anything new out of it...Now Intarsia folks would shoot me for the odd pieces I throw into the wood burner probably.. LOL But I don't hang onto much of anything too small.. If smaller than 2"W x 6"L in the wood burner it goes.. actually in the wheel barrel now.. since I no longer use a wood burner.. but I save it for campfires.. I have all my lumber separated by wood type.. smaller short pieces go against the wall next to my shop bench where I prep board for the next project.. small pieces stay there and get used first.. The bigger stacks stay upstairs of my shop.. I grab one board at a time of whatever species I am working with.. most everything get's planned down to 5/8" so I suppose I don't end up with a whole lot of scraps.. I cut mostly Cherry for my clocks etc.. but occasionally also make them from other types of wood.. Cut 300 BFT of Cherry last year alone.. Same system for my plywood.. used 15 sheets of 5' x 5' 1/8" BB ply last year for ornaments and plaques.. plus quite a lot of Cherry and Walnut ply.. Had I known I was going to be so busy.. I'd have bought much more lumber at my local wood expo when they run the big sale...

I like a light fixture that has replaceable bulbs.. Guess I'm weird in that but.. I just think it's a waste to produce a LED light that doesn't have the ability to change the bulb.. which most of them are like that... A friend bought a few shop lights a year ago.. they had a 5 year warranty.. and the bulb stopped in two of the 4-5 e bought just a few weeks ago. I bought 4ft. LED bulbs to put in my florescent shop light fixtures a couple years ago.. still going strong.. when a bulb quits. I just replace the bulb instead of replacing the whole thing.. I need to buy one more mag light to put on my Excalibur.. I think I'm going to buy another one of the harbor freight ones but put these LEDs in them.. still cheaper than the actual LED mag lights and if the bulb stops.. I won't need to throw the whole thing in the trash..LOL
-
Yeah, cuts nice I would rather cut it that Oak or many other hardwoods..
-
Okay.. Not sure if I had mentioned about me breaking a blade on my old Hawk 220 and the upper arm comes up higher on it than my other Hawk so long story short.. it hit the florescent bulb and busted it.. There was another thread a while back about mag lights and it was mentioned about LED replacements for those circle florescent bulbs.. anyway I did a little research and found that many of them need certain starter ballast either electronic or Magnetic.. I couldn't find any info as to what I have in my light fixture.. ran across this bulb on eBay.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/8-inch-Circline-T9-daylight-LED-relamps-fluorescent-FC8T9-bulb-without-rewiring/222261066257?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 It came in the mail today.. and I have to say it's awesome bright... instant on.. etc etc.. Was a little more money than I was looking to spend since the florescent bulb is only about $6 - 8 and there are other LED's that are cheaper.. if you can figure out what ballast you have.. etc.. The color temp was a lower number than my old light.. but it's still much brighter.. I know this because I have a few more of the same mag lights on my other saws.. Anyway.. just thought I'd share my experience with this bulb.. might have to consider replacing the other bulbs.. if this bulb proves to last a while.. Those old florescent's take a while to get bright out in the cold..

Okay yeah.. it's the green and white box.. I was thinking the name was shop tool or similar.. I'll look to see what the brand is that I buy from them.. that's been pretty good stuff.. for me anyway.. I haven't bought any in a year or better though so maybe it's changed.. I bought a small pack to try then bought a couple boxes of each grit in bigger packs.. I just ran out to the shop to see what I use.. It's Norton brand from Menards..
-
Hmm Menards sandpaper not good huh? Do you happen to know which brand you might be speaking of? My local Menards ( Battle Creek ) sells two brands of the velco type 5" round disc.. I think it's the shoptool or tool shop? something like that.. that i don't like.. but they also have another brand that.. well for the life of me I don't know what brand it is.. but I've switched to using it because it's been better than any of the other stuff I've found.. other then the high dollar stuff I get at the local Finish Master ( autobody supply ) place.. They have real good stuff but not cheap.. Had good luck with Harbor Freight papers as well... My belt sander papers come from Harbor Freight..

I don't know what your location is.. or your budget but if you are close to where member Iggy is.. sounds like he is going to be selling a very lightly used Hawk BM26.. They are awesome saws for precision work.. Just a thought. he just posted tonight he was selling it..
-
Sorry the saw didn't tickle your fancy.. They are great saws.. but like you.. if I had to choose just one of my saws.. oh boy that would be a tough call for me.. I really do like my Hawks.. but on the other hand.. I like my 788's too.. haven't hardly used my Excalibur yet.. Sounds like someone will be getting an awesome deal on a very lightly used Hawk.. You probably don't even have 80 hours on it yet do you..
-
Yeah that's how I bought mine years ago.. but mine was Corel Draw 13.. if you use windows 10 it'll work but it's unstable and might crash the system like mine did..
-
Might be of more help if we know the version you downloaded.. as well as your operating system.. when windows 10 first came out none of my drawing / photo editing software worked right with it.. and corel draw actually crashed my computer.. as it was a old version.. ( actually why I use inkscape now ) Not paying big $$ for corel draw if inkscape does what I need for free..

Travis, is this someone you know?? I ask because if they have the ability to seek out and find the scroll saw village.. I feel like they also have the same ability to look on etsy and other like site to get their quote from.. This message looks much like one that goes around spamming the handmade selling sites I sell on.... Not saying it's a scam.. but I find it odd that they ask you while they can also find many sigh shops not only local to them.. but also on Etsy or other sites.. why did they come here and ask? The scammers are really getting tricky in their approaches.. and many times it's hard to tell if it's a real inquiry or a scam.. I shy away from these fishy type of deals that really don't make a lot of sense..

Think We've All Made Ornamental Firewood, LOL
kmmcrafts replied to kmmcrafts's topic in General Scroll Sawing
JT, I use a homemade mix of beeswax and mineral oil.. mixed to the consistency of a paste wax.. then apply with an acid brush.. gob it on in the frets where the brush doesn't fit well then heat it with a hair dryer / heat gun.. the force of the dryer on high will blow the melted mix into the cutouts until it runs out the back side.. wipe off excess with paper towels and it's done..Not as easy as just dipping in Danish oil but never had a issue with it bleeding out etc like I've had with those other finishes..and I don't have to deal with waiting periods for drying nor any strong smells to get my customer high when they open the box.. I had got complaints of that in the past..even after waiting 7-10 days.. Doing online selling.. as "made-to-order" type selling.. people don't want to wait 2 weeks for the item to get made.. then another 2 weeks for the item to dry.. then the shipping times etc etc.. so I did a lot of researching.. this mix I make seems to be the best solution.. Many times I make an item and mail it out the very same day.. -
I have one similar to Iggy's as well and have test tubes.. As for stickers.. I made some of my own with inkscape and printed them out on my shipping label papers.. cut to size , peel and stick..

Think We've All Made Ornamental Firewood, LOL
kmmcrafts replied to kmmcrafts's topic in General Scroll Sawing
Here is a picture of the replacement.. I do at least one stupid mistake like this every year.. then I get to relaxed and don't check / double check. Last year was gluing a backer and mistakenly glued to the front side LOL -

Yeah that is Cherry.. and I did glue the base..I used to always use screws for the base mount.. but switched to glue a year or so ago.. I plan to modify it in some way to save it.. Quite a simple cut as there's not a whole lot of inside cuts.. so I figured it'd just be faster and more productive to make another one which I did do today.. already done and will ship it out tomorrow.. How this all happen was in my files on the computer, the customer corrected me on it in the pattern I showed her. I made a new pattern but never deleted the old one.. printed the wrong pattern.. -
Hey, I know I haven't been around much lately due to a bookkeeping snafu ( post abut this later in the week ) and I am now just dropping in post a picture of my latest "ornamental firewood" LOL Had a request for a Aston Martin desk clock.. so I put together a pattern.. showed the customer the design and she loved it but told me to make sure I change the spelling as I had it "Aston Marton" Guess what? I changed it alright.. see photo.. I didn't even catch this until I was listing a add on the website..and my spell checker went off on a typo i did and not even on the car name.. on another word but then I looked and somehow caught it.. I had already sent out the invoice to the customer and was getting ready to mail this out today.. glad I decided to make a Made To Order listing on etsy where I caught the mis-spelling.. LOL.. Anyway enjoy the good laugh while I get back to work.. many orders to fill this week and the bookkeeping snafu.. I probably won't be around much this week yet.. just had to drop in to say I'm still around.. just very busy..
