  1. I find that only about 20% of people actually read and understand the description.. You'd be surprised at how many folks message me asking what size my clock inserts are.. when it's right in the title of the listing as well as in the description.. IF the size isn't photographed they don't see it.. Imaging is everything with online selling.. Descriptions are actually a waste of time really because hardly anyone reads them.. however they are there for the search engines to be able to pick up keywords for the search terms so you do need a description but not many are actually reading it..
  2. Yeah, I'm thinking if you could get a spinning display thing and then put some fake pine tree limbs somewhat in the background might look pretty decent if you can get the layout staged good. What do they call those spinning things, LOL... This has been my idea but I've never knew what to search for. If you find something let me know. My camera is a Cannon SLR I bought in 2016 but I can't remember what model. I suppose it depends on where you're putting the video because some sights are designed around the wide angle of the phones.. unless you're looking at the said sites on computers.. I think most use the phone apps for the social sites so they look good on phone but not so much on computer.. again probably most are using phone apps anyway.
  3. I've seen the video play when the mouse hovers the photo when doing searches.. I like that and am sure it would help in getting some traffic etc. Adding video has been on my to do list and I have yet seen one that I really like. Need to invent a motorized ornament hanger.. that's probably a thing?.. maybe I need to look into that. I realize that the slide show probably helps but I just can't bring myself to spend the time to create 500 slide shows that I'm not impressed with in the first place.. Your camera is way overkill for most online things.. I have one of those cameras that I bought specifically for photos / video for online selling.. way too much of a pain in the behind to use.. a cell phone is plenty good and what most people are using anyway..
  4. I somewhat agree about the hands being dirty etc.. this is exactly why I don't do this, LOL.. however these type videos is what I find to be the best option so far that I have seen.. so long as the hands are somewhat clean, LOL.. not saying there isn't a better way to do this.. I mentioned etsy because Bob sells online and a couple years ago etsy introduced the video option and claimed the video will gain you more visibility and sales so I assumed that's why he was asking but my bad I assumed wrong. I don't mess with video on there since I haven't found a way that I really like and adding video to the 450 existing products I'd rather get it right the first time or not do it at all. In some cases I think video of flat ornaments to show the back side is crucial.. there are many ornaments that have spots on the back side to engrave a short message.. I know that isn't the case for most scrolled ornaments but it is something that still would help as some people "assume" just like I did about the video being for etsy.. some might assume the ornament is two sided.. most are not.. that's the thing with selling online is if you knew nothing about the ornament.. and there is not 360 view how do you know exactly what you're getting. It's the little things of detail that makes or breaks a sale..
  5. Hmm, maybe they changed up the photos since the other day or they didn't all load on my computer.. now I'm seeing two photos with one being angled to the right and one to the left.. other day there was no photos of the saw tilted for angle cutting..
  6. I'm not a big fan of slide shows.. I don't think etsy created the video thing just to get the option of more photos... shoppers (at least when I shop) I like to see the real deal of a video to showcase the item.. in this instance talking of ornaments.. I think holding the ornament in the hand and moving it around does way more than a slide show.. for one you have to keep it entertaining and most slide shows I've seen are a turn off for me.. either paused too long between photos or too fast.. nothing better than the actual video of something unless you're some kind of pro at making a great video out of several pictures.. most of them showcase many of the same photos that are already in the listing. Since you're wanting to do this on video sites rather than etsy why not just do a video with it in your hand and you can talk to describe it or say something about it. You could do it standing by a pine tree in the background with the tree somewhat blurred out. I like how this person has their video set up.. holding the ornament with other variations of ornaments in focus and just a small amount of tree limbs that are not right in your face.. they did a good job of putting the focus onto the ornaments.. I just did a search for wood ornament on etsy and on the first couple pages I like this best of all of them for the video part. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1287035194/personalized-christmas-ornaments-gift?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=wood+christmas+ornaments&ref=sr_gallery-1-33&sts=1&content_source=d89441933f18e90ae50f4794360dc416041553ed%3A1287035194&organic_search_click=1
  7. Yeah, the cluttered part is what I feel on all the ones I've looked at on etsy with the tree limbs etc in the background.. I feel like the tree photos don't really showcase the ornament.. too much distraction with the limbs etc. I've not really seen anything done with ornaments that I really like.. I'd be curious what others think about how I've been doing it.. I don't like it but I am just doing it to the best of my ability.. Have always thought there has got to be a better way to show them. As for doing video for the ornament you could show the cutting process or similar.. I show either the scrolling or the laser in a sped up clip and use the main photo thumbnail of the ornament then have it show the video.. or sometimes show the making process and the photo of the at the end of the video.
  8. This one is knock off of the Jet saw.. It has the clamp and tension in one step upper clamp like the jet.. I bet it also has the round barrel style lower blade chuck like the Jet too. I've never seen this one before.. I was mostly talking about the HF saw or other brands of the same saw.. as the one you link to is different than those.
  9. I've never seen one of these in person so I don't know if they have the same screws as the DeWalt and most other saws with this same set-up.. IF you have the swivel inserts like those other similar design saws.. I would bet you could just change the swivel part. I've had some off brand saws that had the same thread size and I upgraded to the swivel thumb screws as they are nicer than the standard screw. Here is the rebuild kit for the inserts if you have that style I'm not sure they'll fit but I would think it's all from the same supplier but I wouldn't know for sure and doubtful anyone else would know for sure, might be one of those buy it and see if it works kind of things. Can't remember the thread size on these but if they're the same then I don't see why you couldn't just buy the swivel style so you can just replace the insert parts. 10. I've kinda wonder how to best showcase ornaments too.. I've seen some folks say to show some photos on a tree as they are intended to be for.. yet I've seen many photos with some pine tree or similar foliage and I can't say I like anything I've seen yet. Out of all 450 ish listings I have I only have one that has a video.. can't say that item gets any better traffic or views etc.. than any other product I have. So far the best videos I've seen were actually just a short clip of the ornament being held in someone's hand and rotated etc. to showcase both sides and showing the edges etc. Been thinking about doing this myself.. but I do have some really bad photos that I've been wanting to update so that is what I'm currently working on.. I like the photos I have that have the black background in the white gift box that I ship them in. The cotton filled white background in the white box are very old photos.. surprised etsy didn't select these to be improved but most of those have no issues. Then the older photos yet are the ones that have no box at all.. and those are really old photos probably back from 2012 ish before I started placing them in the gift boxes.
  11. Seems like some of these versions have better / more images to showcase what they're selling.. Have yet to see one with the saw set for angle cutting.. wonder if they'd give me a saw if I suggested to get some better more detailed photos.. I don't think there is any pictures of the lower blade clamp either.. maybe I've missed some of these images but seems like to me they need to showcase it better so any online shoppers would know better what they're getting.
  12. Just got home from my local HF store... No saw was on display yet, however they did have a empty spot on a shelf with the tag for it. I think they were working on getting a display set up but I just showed up to early, LOL. If they weren't busy I might have asked to see one but they was quite busy and I didn't want to bother since I have zero intentions to actually buy one..
  13. I also have been using the translucent glue for several years. I still will use a toothpick to try to clean up any squeeze out but any that gets left behind or missed doesn't seem to show up. Also depending on what I'm gluing up I found that gluing backers on portraits or signage type stuff with several fretwork cuts that it's easier to spread a thin layer of glue out on a piece of wax paper or I usually use a trash bag and dipping the back side of the project into the glue makes for much more even glue spread and much faster way to do it. Once the glue dries on the bag you can take it out in the yard and shake most of the dried glue off.. and you can still use the bag. You can use a business card to spread the glue around on the bag to get a thin layer or use some plastic filler spreaders from Harbor Freight https://www.harborfreight.com/plastic-spreader-set-3-piece-69563.html
  14. I always get mine locally at http://theworkbench.com/ in full 60" x 60" sheets... I mostly only use 1/8".. They were out of stock for a long time due to the covid? stuff so I ordered a couple boxes of 12" x 12" from Cherokee https://www.cherokeewood.com/ and while it was more money I also found the sheets I received never had any of the football patches.. maybe I was lucky that order or maybe they sort it out of the smaller pieces.. I was really impressed with the quality.. I believe it was free shipping back then but maybe that has changed. Being I sell online and have a good idea of shipping cost I believe I was paying nearly the same price as I get it locally but the shipping would be extra cost.. Not sure I made that clear.. basically I feel like the plywood is priced the same but I paid extra because of shipping which is why it cost me more. However it was nice to not have to process ( cut down to usable sizes ).. which the local source will do but they also charge that extra for too which if I wanted the 12 x 12 pieces then the price would be really comparable. I mostly only use it for ornaments so the 12 x 12 worked out good, but if you're doing portraits then larger sizes might be a better option. The convenience of not having to cut down the big sheets has made me almost consider just buying it from these guys and paying the little extra. I also really like the "project panels" from Home Depot.. though a bit more money.. very nice to work with and my laser cuts it much better than BBply. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Columbia-Forest-Products-5-32-in-x-1-ft-x-1-ft-7-in-PureBond-Maple-Plywood-Project-Panel-10-Pack-4940/312284408 They have maple, birch, walnut and maybe a few others.
  15. I would think the Pegas clamps would work.. I doubt they re-engineered the rocker arms just to throw another cheap brand on the market. Likely most all these saws are more just assembled using existing parts.
  16. I've never really met her or got into doing intarsia yet, but have seen the name thrown out there on the web a lot over the years. Prayers to the family and those close to her
  17. My local store says they have several in stock.. according to the website. I need to go there at some point to pick up a new multimeter as the free one they used to give out 15 years ago quit working on me.. go figure.. I have a battery drain on one of my Jeeps and also need to test the coil on one of my tractors.. Never realized just how much I use those meters until I don't have one. I even had a back-up but it didn't work either, lol.. I think my son said he hooked something up wrong and blew the fuse in them.. turns on.. just won't test anything so not a battery issue. Anyway, maybe I'll take a trip there in the next few days. My store is usually good at having inventory but not great about getting a display out very quickly.. so they probably do have several still boxed up. It's kinda a smaller store than other towns have so that is probably why.
  18. 110% agree.. Over the years I've been toying with inkscape and I am able to do a lot more for myself but there are still many things to learn and many times I need those more talented than I to do some of these more difficult things. I hope one day I'll be good enough to help others with patterns.. but.. at the rate of my learning and experimenting with these drawing programs.. I might never get that good in my lifetime, LOL
  19. I've posted about this some years ago and so has a few others over the years. I've kinda wanted to look into the magnifier lights that have the flip-up lens cover.. but back then many folks said that cover is cheap and most get broken off. For a while there I was putting a square piece of plywood over the top so it'd block the light from getting to the lens but I used the wood for a project and never replaced it with something.. So thank you for that reminder. The way I found it is one time on my old DeWalt saw the table top burnt me as the light was shining just on the edge of the table and made it hot.. so thankful it was only hitting the top of the table and not something flammable.. Many times I would get up from the saw and just leave my project setting on the top.. That could start that wood on fire very easily..
  20. Most of the new saws coming out now days.. actually I think all of them are tilting saw and not the table.. Most are just a knockoff of the early EX saw.. and basically rebranded.. Some made in China and some of the better ones made in Taiwan.
  21. That was one of the other things I did.. back then I was making a lot of desk clocks to sell and every time I'd have to set up my forestner bit in then switch it back out etc.. so I bought a new drill press to just leave the one set up with the forestner bit.
  22. That was the original reason I first bought my first second saw second saw.. then the reason I ended up with several more was because of them being free and or so cheap they might as well have been free.. Only reason I bought my new Hawk was 1) I've always wanted to try the new one with the adjustable blade aggression and having the lower arm come out to the front of the saw rather than behind the angle adjustment mechanism 2) That year we was trying to stay under a lower tax bracket so at the end of the year I had to spend some cash for write offs that was also why I bought the CNC and laser.. always had a interest in them but they was always way out of my spending limits.. other than that one year. Anyway now for some reason i have 4 back-up saws, LOL.. and I'm really torn on which ones to send to a new owner so I've kept them all for a couple years.. My only regret in all of that was I wish I had bought a smaller cheaper CNC and a larger more expensive laser.. Turns out after getting to learn enough to use them I end up wishing the CNC didn't take so much room and I wish I could do larger projects on the laser, LOL I've never once used the full capacity of the CNC size and likely never will, LOL. Yet almost every time I use the laser I wish I could run a larger batch of ornaments and be able to do larger projects on it.
  23. Welcome to the Village This is a single speed saw and it's been my understanding that the motor issues were on the VS ( variable speed ) models.. Probably be best to give Bushton Manufacturing a call and they could confirm if this motor is one with the issues or not. I'm kind of wondering if maybe a variable speed saw might be a better option with your dads health issues it might be easier for him to be able to slow the saw way down if needed. Also a lot of people have trouble with these older style blade clamps on these older saws ( the round barrel style lower clamp can be a frustration to some people.. I've never had any issue with them but I've seen many topics on these message boards over the years where many have trouble with these blade clamps )
  24. Yeah I have a large 30 x 30 garden not to far to the right of the photo where I mostly grow red, yellow and sweet potatoes and they ate the tops of the plant off.. I'm wanting and maybe will next year fence a larger area as I wanting to do sweet corn too. I also have two 4 x 10 raised bed gardens up by the house in the back yard and this year did an experimental 5 gallon bucket garden that didn't work because we had a lot of rain and I didn't drill enough drain holes in the bottom of the buckets... IF the bucket thing works well next year I think I'll be building more of them. Anyway to get back to the deer eating my garden I read online that if you put some post in and tie fishing line around it at a couple different heights it scares them as they can't see the line but they feel it when they bump into it.. It worked well and my plants came back.. Just dug up 4 plants and got about 5 pound of yellow and 5 pounds of red potatoes this morning. I have about 60 plants. They stay in the ground and I just dig them up as needed.. any that I miss grow into plants again next year, LOL Been doing that for 30 ish years now.. no need to buy them anymore.
  25. Not sure if it's just on my end or what but when I click on these links it just brings me back to this topic, LOL
