The butterfly is made out of pine then took a torch and flamed it so the grain came out. I like doing this to pine because it will appear to be an older used trivet or antique if you will.
Ha, I only have 47 files in there. However this doesn't include the 1000 or so I have at home in my stash. Lol Not to mention the dozen or so books and all the magazines.
Well I have been as busy as a cat on a tin roof lately but I did manage to get a few things done in the last few weeks down in the shop. I am working on wrapping up a few more but they aren’t quit done yet.
Here are a couple of Arpop trivets and a Steve Good oven tool I have done. The best part is this was all free wood out of a buddies scrap box for the oak and the pine was out of an old shipping box I salvaged at work and plained down to 1/2" thick.
I found a 3"X3" piece of lace wood nailed to a pallet that my boss was going to burn. I snagged that sucker and resawed it to just over 1/2" for some intarsia projects. It is pretty cool looking stuff
I had also bought some 3/4" lace wood for a sea turtle I have been working on.
Funny I think the free piece is prettier.
In the last couple of years I have seen a lot of the older doctors hanging it up in our rural areas. Very sad to lose all that experience.
Wonderful work on this. Keep it up.
I was hesitant at spending the money for the quick clamp but wish I would have done it right away. That really speeds things up! :D
Thanks Jim for the advice.
As a father of 5 and a grandfather of 5 it would be devastating to lose one of my kids. My sincere condolences to you and your family.
As far as the scroll saws you have 2 good machines. The Dewalt should be able to cut anything you want after these guys help you get it tuned up and running correctly. As far as the Excalibur goes if you really want to get it back up and running it would probably be worth it to take the broken pieces to a local machine shop and have them reverse engineer and build the parts to get it running if you still have the saw and the broken parts.
Good luck with your ventures and I think I speak for all of us when I say I hope to see you and many of your projects around the village as times goes on.
She should know her alphabet by the time she is a year old at this rate and now to make the number puzzles. She is a very lucky little girl to have a grandpa making her educational toys like that.
They are both very nice. Please thank the veteran for his service for me. To put in 25 years is an amazing accomplishment.
Thank You for sharing your work
Welcome to the village Sam!!! Here is another great place to look for some simple patterns. You can never have enough patterns or cool places to find them.

Fay, I hate to break it to you but the leash usually goes on the other end. Very cute might have to make one with three butts for my own wall. Okay I am done with the bad jokes now.
You did a great job on a very cute project Fay. Thanks for sharing.
I love these old steam engines. You are really bringing history alive with your wonderful work.
Thank You for sharing this and your other works of art with us.
