    I subscribe to Scroll Saw Workshop. Have every issue either hard copy or on DVD. I bought issues 1 - 48 on DVD. Love the mag that way as I have it all indexed. Wish all there mags were on DVD. I also read Fine Working each issue as our club subscribes.

    Very Nice. I really like the aromatic cedar. I have not seen that around here. Will have to look. I love cutting these too. One thing that I do is put a litt moss in the hole and hides the drill hole bottom.

    Thanks Charley for the advice. I like the idea of the oven pull and the pot duckies. I didn't think about those. I am going to do one or both. I am having 4 or 5 per class and have one helper so hopefully, these students will be able to follow along as they are all members of our club but are not scrollers. Some are quite experienced in wood turning and/or flatwork. I was surprized at the different levels. It will be interesting. Thanks again Don

    I am suppose to have people who have never scrolled before but I know some of them have done woodworking for years and others are real newbies. I would appreciate any sample patterns you have as I will need something in reserve for those who streak it. I did a 3d course a little while ago and I had 3 projects and some finished in less than an hour and one person didn't get last one done. One person left in an hour and she had never scrolled before. You never know. Thanks everyone for your ideas.

    I am doing a course a our club on scrolling fundamentals and am looking for a project. I have 14 signed up so fa and will do 5 at a time and we only have 7 saws. ​ I am going to start with a brief discussion on the operation of the DW788, blades, patterns (how to get, apply and remove) I then have the attached pattern to cut. I will demonstrate on the white board how to cut straight lines, corners, points, vees and circles. The students will get to cut this as we go. My concern is that I need a project to do at the end of this as I don't think this will take up the 2 hours. On my test, it took me only about 45 minutes to talk and cut. I am sure that with questions and problems that it will take up more time. My first thought was to have every one do a personalized key chain (by Steve Good) I would attach and pre drill. Does anyone have any suggestions for a different project? Also, if you have any comments on my pattern to cut it would be appreciated too. Thank you Don Training Pattern.pdf

    I finally finished the bank for my grandsons. The pattern was by Birchbank and then slightly modified. For those who didn't see the original post, my Grandsons are saving to buy a goat with Feed the Children's Fund. ​Part of their allowance and part of any gifts get saved and then next Christmas they will donate the money for a goat.     The most recent one I cut was for the lecturn and our club so I stuck it up with 3M velco strips. So far so good. I did not want to mark up the oak. I have attached some Intarsia up the same way.

    I have an EX-21 and use the DW788 at our club. I think the 788 is more aggressive as the blade does not go straight up and down but has slight frontward rotation. When doing delicate work less aggressive is better. You can adjust the EX-21 if you want but I am not sure on the DW788.

    Good Luck I like to use a power point presentation if possible. It keeps me on track. I recently did a scroll saw session at our club and can be seen on Nov 16.     Very cool. Bowls like this are on my bucket list. I saw Carole Rothman at the Fox Chapel Open house and I was impressed. You have done a very nice job.

    Hi Frank Maybe you should look at some Intarsia sites. I would suggest Judy Gale Roberts as part of the process is the cut the various woods and then in a lot of cases you are really shaping and carving the pieces. This segmented piece was all done with a single 2x4 and painted. (Entry to our 2x4 challenge). My carving of the flowers was done with a dremel. (if is doesn't have a motor it is out of my skill level) There are more sites than JGR but I think she has more "carved|" pieces that others artists but I could be wrong. Don PS: If you are looking a buying JGR patterns they are available from Workshop Supply in Canadian funds.

    I love keychains. I usually do Steve's name ones. (Done probably over 200) but I like the idea of doing animals etc. as sometimes to long names just don't work as a keychain. I can see this working for tags on back packs. I add ball chain instead of d-ring. Thanks for the idea. Don PS: I love the community mail box. When I go away I don't have to worry about the mail building up in my mail box etc. plus small parcels are dropped there. I only go to the box a couple of times a week so no big deal.

    Hi Frank Regarding picture inside the post. ​ I don't know if you can do after but when you attach your files there is a button beside you picture that ways add to post. If you click that it will put the picture where your cursor is. I can't edit your original post maybe you can.     This this years ornaments. Sprayed with Gold Glitter When I did them I stack cut 5 at a time and for the name line I had to do everything but the name and did that separately.

    I use FD blades exclusively. I use mainly the Ultra reverse in all sizes. The only time a break a blade is when I know I have pushed too hard in a turn or done something stupid. Note: the UR blades have a little bump at the top of the blade. I just finished a box done with hard maple and African mahogany (#3) and was so smooth that I didn't really have to sand.     I would suggest that no matter what you try out first. I have a mag light and I love the extra light but can't use the magnifier portion. I see the line twice. It is something to do with the astigmatism in one eye. I have tried a number of different magnifiers and have not found one to work. I would really love to have something to magnify the lines when doing Intarsia. I have an appointment with my eye doctor next month and am going to see if she get me subscription magnifiers. Don

    Really Well done. Love the shaping on the mustache. I wish that I had seen this a couple of weeks ago as I have the Mrs. Claus half done and didn't know what to do with the lettering. I have no cut all the way thru but like what you did much better. don

    Love the finish. I don't paint solid wood but I do paint Baltic birch as I don't like the edges showing. You have done a great job with the glitter. Is there a particular brand you use? Don

    I just did one for our club and I got 3M picture hanging strips. 2 sets on Velcro and are suppose to not mark the wall. Lays nice and flat on the wall. I am not sure how long they will last but I have had some small Intarsia up for over a year. Don

    Welcome from fellow Canuck. I am just down Hwy 12 in Brooklin. Lots of inspiration here. Take a look at the "University" topics to learn how to make and modify your own patterns. Gives you even more things to scroll. There is a separate post in Patterns about creating Intersecting Art. I have been doing some of these with names. Also, when I started I did a lot of patterns from Steve Good. He has a blog that he sends out email patterns and ideas. Also, there are free program for key chains and plaques. I have done over 100 key chains and countless name plaques. ( I do a name plaque for each of my Grandkids teachers). His personalized ornaments are also one of my go to projects. I do an ornament for everyone at Christmas as a seating card. (21 each year) http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.ca/ Good luck and if you ever this way let me know.     I really like Win 10. I switched to Edge. It is fast but lacks a few features. I installed on 3 laptops. 2 had win 8.1 and one was win 7. No problems and I can network the 3 together with out an issue. I could never get the win 7 to see the other 2. The only issue was it would not recognize the DVD driver so all I did was delete the driver and reboot and it put in correct drive. Love the new start as I have the sports app at the top and it links real fast to my favorite teams. I had Media player on 2 of the laptops and it is still there. I use to sync my Walkmen and it works just like before. In fact, since my wives laptop (Win 7) it now recognizes my library so she loaded her Walkman with my albums. Best Microsoft move so far. don
