  1. Really Well done. Love the shaping on the mustache. I wish that I had seen this a couple of weeks ago as I have the Mrs. Claus half done and didn't know what to do with the lettering. I have no cut all the way thru but like what you did much better. don
  2. Love the finish. I don't paint solid wood but I do paint Baltic birch as I don't like the edges showing. You have done a great job with the glitter. Is there a particular brand you use? Don
  3. I just did one for our club and I got 3M picture hanging strips. 2 sets on Velcro and are suppose to not mark the wall. Lays nice and flat on the wall. I am not sure how long they will last but I have had some small Intarsia up for over a year. Don
  4. Welcome from fellow Canuck. I am just down Hwy 12 in Brooklin. Lots of inspiration here. Take a look at the "University" topics to learn how to make and modify your own patterns. Gives you even more things to scroll. There is a separate post in Patterns about creating Intersecting Art. I have been doing some of these with names. Also, when I started I did a lot of patterns from Steve Good. He has a blog that he sends out email patterns and ideas. Also, there are free program for key chains and plaques. I have done over 100 key chains and countless name plaques. ( I do a name plaque for each of my Grandkids teachers). His personalized ornaments are also one of my go to projects. I do an ornament for everyone at Christmas as a seating card. (21 each year) http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.ca/ Good luck and if you ever this way let me know. Don PS: I am on a lot of forums and this is the best.
  5. I really like Win 10. I switched to Edge. It is fast but lacks a few features. I installed on 3 laptops. 2 had win 8.1 and one was win 7. No problems and I can network the 3 together with out an issue. I could never get the win 7 to see the other 2. The only issue was it would not recognize the DVD driver so all I did was delete the driver and reboot and it put in correct drive. Love the new start as I have the sports app at the top and it links real fast to my favorite teams. I had Media player on 2 of the laptops and it is still there. I use to sync my Walkmen and it works just like before. In fact, since my wives laptop (Win 7) it now recognizes my library so she loaded her Walkman with my albums. Best Microsoft move so far. don
  6. Scroll Saw Work Shop issue 29 has realistic ones made from scrap.
  7. Great stuff. I like the bright colours. One thing I do is fill the hole with some moss that I bought a Walmart. Don
  8. Thanks everyone. I am one the way to my wood supplier to see if they have any oak. I usually don't cut oak but will try a couple of different woods. Thanks again Don
  9. I have designed a couple of my own Intersecting Word Arts and now want to cut. Question - What kind of wood and thickness is everyone using? Thanks Don
  10. Our club got approached by a local church to cut a "few" people for the Sunday school program, Nearly 100 - cut in pine. It turned out to be a bigger project than I thought but is now all done. If the club was meeting, I would have done it as a "scrolling party" and a few guys would have cut in a morning. It takes longer to print the pattern, find a piece of wood (lots of scraps used), affix the pattern than it was to cut as most are just silhouettes. When it comes to the New Testament we will tackle differently.
  11. I use a 6 inch all the time. I even bought a cheap drill press for $59 on sale so it would be available easily. I get from Stockroom supply. http://stockroomsupply.ca/shop/ I have the cupped sanding drum and the minis and don't ever use. They come a demo at our club once and year and are great company to deal with. Don
  12. I ordered from the same old Mikes website and the blades came with the week. The service is really great when you think it came from Portland OR to Brooklin Ontario Canada.
  13. Very Nice. You could add a big tear to the end after being up 8 to 2 to my beloved Blue Jays and then loosing in the end. don
  14. There is an articulating alligator in SSWC issue 5 page 20. Don
  15. I resize using Adobe Reader X. My scanner lets me scan to PDF but if not I use Inkscape like above or I have Nitro PDF printer (free). Lets me select the PDF creator. In Adobe there is an option for posterize that will print the PDF on multiple pages if required with crop marks etc. Don
  16. I am a little ADHD - Just looked around my shop and I have a cheese board being finished, an intarsia piece being shaped, an intarsia piece half cut out, a wig stand 1/2 turned, and a end grain cutting board being clamped up. Some of those have been there for a little while. Since I am retired I am in not hurry and my only deadline is when ever I feel like finishing it. YOLO.
  17. Had my room reservations since last November. I am going to be there on Friday maybe Saturday too. Lots of great speakers including Judy Gale Roberts and Carole Rothman. Don
  18. One of the members of our club takes a pen blank and cuts in half length wise. On the top he cuts a maple leaf as inlay with a contrasting colour.. It is real small. About 1/3 of inch. Glues it back together and turns a pen. Usually a slim line but I have seen a single piece pen too. They are really cool. I will try and find a picture as he has given a number to the Pens for Canadian Peacekeepers. Don
  19. I sign all my bowls and wig stands after I have finished with a Sharpie ultra fine point. The bowls are usually 2 - 3 coats Tung oil. My wig stands are wipe on poly. I recently did a crokinole board and put on the scoring line with a fine point sharpie. It was over 3 coats of spray on high gloss poly and then coated with 5 -6 more coats.
  20. You have to create a text box with the A on the tool bar on the left near bottom. change font, size and colour etc. don
  21. Nice job. I guess the guy must be single. LOL Don
  22. Cooper Black for anyone not Steve Good's forum
  23. At the last minute, (Saturday) my wife announces that I had made trinket boxes for my 2 granddaughters but I did not do anything for the 3 boys. She keeps track of those things. I did a pair of box from one 2x4 in the Spring for the girls/ Quickly did 3 different puzzles for the boys. Papa's workshop is closed for the season.
  24. Hi Stu If you send me the instructions I will be happy to do some for you. If too many I will ask at our club. Last year the local cancer support group asked if we could do a Diana Thompson awareness in gold for every family in our region with a child with cancer. I nearly fell over when she asked for 100. I asked for help at the club and the next thing I know I have over 150. We painted as a group and then did some in pink. Sold off a few to get a gold box for them. Many hands make light work. 25. Nicely cut. I have my patterns (Candy canes for boys and angels for the girls) from Steve Good just sitting there and need to get done right after the other things on Daddy do list. My plan was to stack cut 3 at a time and then do the names one at a time. I did that with last years patterns. Don
