Nicely done I am almost finished with cutting on 21 ornaments from Steve Good. I am stack cutting 2 at time (1/4 BB) and then I add the name to the bottom one. Saves a little time especially on Steve's Santa. Don

I use Ultra Reverse almost exclusively for most cutting. I use Polar blades when doing some compound cutting. On Baltic Birch I get a few fuzzies on the bottom piece that can be used with a little sanding. (usually quick pass on sanding mop) What I really like is how smooth the interior is. I have done 3/4 inch cherry with UR-5 and get no burning and it is as smooth as glass on inside. Don

Yes one end is a Wonder Wheel. I visited the JGR studio in Tennessee and Judy herself convinced me that it would be a idea to have one as lot of her patterns make use of the wonder wheel. As I stated I am just getting started to do Intarsia and so I can't really say as I have only done a couple of beginner projects. A friend came and used it to add texture the wings of a bird and he loved it and it turned out great. I bought mine from http://stockroomsupply.ca/shop/ I have the 6 inch at a few grits. On Monday they brought their wood show to our club and I bought the mini mop. Have not used yet but I love the bigger one. They gave a demo on the Little ripper and I am so tempted. Makes re-sawing such a breeze. I know they are located in Canada but most of their business in the USA. Check out the shows they are going to be at as they usually have deals. I have no affiliation with the company. I have on my bucket list to learn intarsia but other projects keep getting in the way. I have the JGR workbook and done first 2 1/2 projects. I visited Judy Gale Roberts studio last year and she recommend the Flex Drum sander. I have all the grits and have found it great for other things too. Here is a picture my sanding station with the flex drum and the wonder wheel on the other. I also have sanding mops and a spindle/belt sander too. If softwood ie pine or basswood, I like using the FD ultra reverse 5 or 7 depending on thickness. Gives a real fine finish. For hardwood, I have been using the Polar Blades #5 and #7. It is slow going no matter what you use. I am working on a couple of Sue Mey's designs. (A bird house and a light post) and her recommendation is a #9 skip tooth. Don

Our club has donated 100 Awareness angels to the local cancer support center. Five members each cut 20 ribbons and I did the halo (on the lathe) and the wings. Painting by my wife and myself. (Gold is the colour for Children's Cancer). Pattern by Diana Thompson. These will be given to the families of children with cancer at a couple of special events next month. This is a great way to support Hearth Place and I urge other clubs see if they help. Each member was supposed to do 20 but everyone did quite few more so we are going to sell angels in various colours and the proceeds will help pay for the boxes and then the balance will go to fund other projects.

I stack cut these and the first one was given away and I forget what I did it with. For these 2, I did one in black and the other in brown. Quite as difference. LOML likes the black. We'll see what my SIL likes as it is being donated to a silent auction at her quilting club. The other will go to another quilting club for raise funds for cancer. Pattern by Sue Mey.

It is nice to have some order in your shop. I have a pledge to clean up after each project but with overlaps it is not easy. I this is for your work shop only I put up OSB on 2 of my walls and painted white. Now I can easily hang stuff where ever without having to look for stud or using plugs. Wish I did it on all walls. When you get it done I look forward to some pics. Don

I bought the 90 led light from busybee in Canada when it was on sale for 60 some $. I am sure the same is available in the USA. http://www.busybeetools.com/products/MAGNIFYING-LAMP-90-LED-TABLE-MOUNTING.html The light is great the madnifying not so great with my glasses. I see 2 images. If I close one eye it magnifies okay. If I fool around with the positioning I can get it right but it takes time. My wife doesn't have any problems. I haven't much need for the magnifier anyways but the LED light is great. Don

I cover my wood completely with painters tape. Blue or Green. Spray the back of the pattern with glue or with a glue stick. Apply to the taped side and the tape is easy to remove. If hard wood, I cover the back with clear shipping tape. Don

I purchased a 90 LED light from Busy Bee in Canada. http://www.busybeetools.com/products/MAGNIFYING-LAMP-90-LEF-TABLE-MOUNTING.html The amount of light is fantastic but when I look with the magifying lens with my glasses on I see the blade twice. Take off my glasses or look with one eye it is nicely enlarged. I think there maybe a sweet spot but I can't seem to find it when I scroll. I have used it for other things and it is fine. I would suggest that you test out what ever light you are looking at on the scroll saw to make sure it magnifies the way you want it. don

I have been a woodworker since I was in grade 7 (60 years ago). My dad was an excellent woodworker and made sure I took every shop class available. After a busy career, I retired early (freedom 55) and moved to a new house with the understanding that I would have enough room for a shop. I have done lots of cabinet work and and lathe work but the only scrolling I really did was to do all the porch posts on the old house we restored. It was a lot of sanding after using dad's old one speed craftman scroll saw. In 2010, we decided the old house was too much work and my wife wanted to be closer to the grandkids so we moved to Brooklin. At the same time, I joined the Durham Woodworkers Club and one of the first seminars I attended was for scrolling and we did the wolf below. My new house had a small shop and I thought this looked like fun so I bought a EX-21 and never looked back. I have a short attention span so I cycle back and forth between turning and the scrolling depending if I have a project lined up. My goal for 2013 was to do some Intarsia and do some "non round" bowls. So far I have done 1 intarsai beginners piece and made a couple of bowls that ended up as firewood. I recently got involved in a project to create wig stand for cancer patients and have spent most of my time on the lathe. So far made 9 wig stands. They are lots of fun as everyone is different and I know they go to a good cause. don

I am using IE9 and have no issues.

Hi Dave Welcome to the village. I used to the occasional blade slip out so I started running each blade against a sander to remove any grease. My sanding staion is within arms read. Can't recall when last blade slipped out. I know there are some out there who dip ends in alcohol too. I have an EX-21 so Dewalt maybe differnet. Don

Not as bad as before but I too am a wood hoarder. In 2000, I restored a 150 year old house and I saved all the interior planks that were usable, floor boards, door casing etc. took up an area in my garage 14 x 6 x 6 or more. Used it for all sorts of projects. When I moved, I culled some of it out but still had 2 trailer loads. I am now down to just a few planks but am using the space for the wood that I am accumulating for doing Intarsia sometime in the future. If I see a nice board at the lumber yard I buy it and save it just in case. I rarely throw out a cut off as you never know. YES, my name is Don and I am a hoarder.

Wasn't sure if I should post in other works or not, but the body was cut on the scroll saw. I don't have any sons and my grandson's are too young but I built a Kubkcar (Pinewood Derby) as part of our clubs hosting the cubs and scouts to build Kubcars and 18 wheelers. It was a lot of fun helping the kids build their cars. I think, the members got more out it than the kids. I built this car with the clubs logo and a logo from each of our sponsors. We also gave each of the kids a stand to paint. They just had to screw together. Don McFarland
