  1. If you have the blade tension correctspeed will be the bigest reason for breakage. fery seldom will you have to use high speed if you do your blade will last less than 1/2 hour, some cases high spedd will work best but I run at about 1/2 speed and the blades last at least a hour some times more. as far as useing plywood I very seldom use any thing bigger than 1/4 in ply. I have used Vermont bladesin the past ( 20 years ago) they were good blades at that timeI haven't seen them in the past 15 years. I use olsons match blades and Pargis when I use a l#3 blade. IKE
  2. I save a decent size scrap in a 4 gal blucket I might want to use it sometime but when the bucket gets full I thlrow most away and on.y deep really useable ieces of scrap IKE

  7. I use keylon easytackI get at michaels for It cost $4.50 to $5.6o depending on the coupond that I have I spray the pattern after I wait 15 seconds and it ery seldom comes up and when it does I use a walll paper r;oller and it works fine I do not use blue painters tape . On fret work it can be a big problem getting it off. the I remove the pattern with mineral or paint thinerl dlet it dry and dtake a rag ssoaked with meneral oil and wipe it off . IKIE
  8. My neighbor was throwing out two dressers and I grabed the Draweers and got the wood out oft them now I have some good 1/2 in looks like fer boards they just need a little sanding . in nice weather I useally drive around looking for these free wood It's the best kind. IKE
  9. My shop is 120 sq ft. and I have a shopvac air cleaner which I turn on when I start sawing and a 2 gal shopvac under my saw to collect sawdust at my DW788 I have it plug in to my foot peddle it turns on when I start sawing and off when I stop the saw and it works fine in my small shop. IKE
  10. I have tried both FD and Olson blades mentioned but I prefer Olson's match baldes. They seem to last longer At $0.40 per blade that matters to me. IKE
  11. The wooden teddy bear for Olson blades IKE
  12. I used the switch on the machine for over 20 years and then switched to the foot peddle and I love it wouldn't do with out it. IKE
  13. I don't keep any pieces less than 6X4 and I just have a ben for then no matter what type when I have a small project I pik out a piece thata works no matter what type of wood it is.I have limited spaces to work in so I can't keep any thing too small. IKE

  15. That is good advice, the only thing that I have to add is stay away from the big box store blades, rockler and woodcrafts have good blades . i am trying pagus now and so fr they seem like they are a good blade, but Lowes and Home depot have cheep blades at a high price for the quality. IKE
  16. I veryseldon have back trouble due to sawing. I have a wooden floor cement is a killer even with a rubber mat. IKE
  17. I worked in the Machines shops standing on concreet floors for 8 to 10 hours a day, that's hard on the back too. I made me a wooden slatted platform to stand on and It really helped a lot I found that it was better than rubber mats. A wooden platform about 3/4 " above the floor would probably help. My shopn is a wooden shed 8''X12' with plywood floors. when sawing I useally take a break every 3/4 to 1 hour and I can work all day with out my back bothering me much at all. My saw is on a homemade stand wit the baack up about 2 " at the hight of standing with the stool that I use. I am 78 years old so pain in the back is a common thing but I just bear it. IKE
  18. I would forget about useing 1/8 hard board I have herd that the fumes from it are harmfull . Home Depot has 1/4 (actual 3/16) plywood for under $20, they will cut it to 2'X4' pieces . just get some and after 2 pieces of 4x8 ply you should be ready to take pictures and hang on the wall. IKE
  19. You now have a good idea what fretwork is, I have several books on fretwork most of them bought from amazon for as little as $1.25 + $400 postage just go onto amazon books and type in scroll saw and you will find something you would like. IKE
  20. The way I will do my puzzle patterns is to look them up on the teddbear web site look yup what you want It showes a picture of what you get, then order from Scott he is $1 cheeper, then The wooden tedder bear Tkhe wooden teddy Bear has a lot of paterns . That is where I gfet myNativity patterns and they have da quick tlurn around on orders. IKE
  21. I would stay away from the Porter Cable I had one years ago and it wasn't too bad. I burnt up the motor on my Dewalt 788 and bought a cable {prter as a back up . It was a real piece of junk so I took it back and got a full refund. There warentee says sif you are not satisfied with the saw take it back within 60 days for a full refund, but I would go on cregs list and find one trly it out before you pay anythin for it. IKE
  22. I useally run my Dw788 at a 5 rate pf s[eed e;ce[t wjen cutting patterns out orf 3/4 popular wthe outline @ #5 and the letters @ full speed it seems to run better that way.
