The only Time that I see using spirals is when the job is too large for my DW 788 I have not came across that pattern yet and if I do I will skip it. I don't like spiral blades and I am too olk to learn.

Scott is right that motor is not a venerable speed motor, get a step pulley and go that way. I worked on motors for 27 years and don't do it.

I started with a cheap cheap sears ( not Craftsman) Ii Worked with it for about 3 years and then went and bought a good 21 in craft man. It was a good saw I used-it for about 15 years and wore out, so I bought a De Walt and it is the best I ever had Paid abut $500, I just bought the second saw it is also a DEwalt 788 I love both. when you buy learn what blades to use and where that will make a big difference of how you feel about your purchases.LOL IKE

You think you are tight my shop is poly 10X12 and I have a scroll saw, rill Press< Table saw< work bench< small Router table. and lots of sanders but I do have a 7x8 shed for storage.

I thought I was the only one who forgets, but I have never forgot what I did in the shop a couple of days ago. You must be getting old.I often forget what i came in the room for but never my Scrolling.My wife says my forgetfulness is like my selective hearing.. Hay Kevin just kidding.

Welcome to the village. It is a good place to be for answers to questions, we also have lots of patterns all free.No mater how experienced you are there is always an answer that you didn't know.. we like pictures and what kind of saw do you have?

i agree wit Kevin. If yu can afford new saw get a good one don't mess with the cheaper saws. if you can't afford a new go to crags list list and buy a used one. You can get a dw 788 for $150- $350
