I do mostly fret work and I use a #4 most of the time ( 1/4 to 1/2 thick wood on heavier I use a #5 or #7.

A friend had some 125 year old pine barn siding it was tong and groove.We planed it down to 1/2 this leaves a slight groove in it , but I can cut it down to 7/16 to 1/4 thickness what ever i need at the time. I got 20 pieces 41/2 wide by 52 in. long.Now all i=I have to do is figure out what to make I plained down 4 pcs to 1/4 I will make a sfor his wife. IKE

I always use Olson blades, some use flying Dutchman's, either one is fine. as for the size I like a 4 or 5 for most cuts. for material of over 3/4 stock I will try a #5 or above. What you need to do is just experiment. Somme will say different but just try and see what yo like. IKE
