    Bruce

Little Bruce and his friend Jenny are only 10 years old, but they know they are in love. One day they decide that they want to get married, so Bruce goes to Jenny's father to ask him for her hand. Bruce bravely walks up to him and says, "Mr. Smith, me and Jenny are in love and I want to ask you for her hand in marriage." Thinking that this was just the cutest thing, Mr. Smith replies, "Well, Bruce, you are only 10. Where will you two live?" Without even taking a moment to think about it, Bruce replies, "In Jenny's room. It's bigger than mine and we can both fit in it nicely." Still thinking this is just adorable, Mr. Smith says with a huge grin, "Okay, then how will you live? You're not old enough to get a job. You'll need to support Jenny." Again, Bruce instantly replies, "Our allowance, Jenny makes five bucks a week and I make 10 bucks a week. That's about 60 bucks a month, so that should do us just fine." Mr. Smith is impressed. Bruce has put so much thought into this. "Well Bruce, it seems like you have everything figured out. I just have one more question. What will you do if the two of you should have little children of your own?" Bruce just shrugs his shoulders and says, "Well, we've been lucky so far."
  3. You've outdone yourself dear sir that is a fantastic piece of art, I'll bet you were glad to get it on a back board for support.
  4. Sorry I have been scrolling for 30 years or so with a machine by hand before that there just wasn't any books then so I taught myself but if you really want to learn I would think there is a lot of information on youtube Steve Good has a pretty good program and of course the book that Travis suggested would be a good choice. Ask plenty of questions here, chances are the answers are here also. Good luck
  5. I wonder if taking a bit off the end of the screw could make the difference as the screw is shorter it will go in further perhaps using more or different threads?
  6. Great job Dennis nice cutting I just don't know how you can work with those spirals You seem to have the knack
  7. Thank you everyone for your compliments and words of encouragement. Large projects like these take a lot of time and patients but I find them more rewarding in the end, just my opinion. Again I like to thank Sully for sharing a great pattern with me. .../Hans
  8. Welcome Ray to the village you've come to the right place if you want to know more about scroll sawing, anything you want to know just ask there is no such thing as a stupid question but there is occasionally a stupid answer just jiving you, seriously welcome hopefully we'll have you scrolling in no time.
  9. That was the day there were real craftsman considering the tools they had to work with, but how long would it take to build this beauty?
  10. What drift what quirks What are we talking about I find I go with the flow and if it wanders of I just cuss a bit and it seems to straighten itself out

  12. Not sure what to put behind it I've tried several colours but I keep coming back to basic black, opinions please Sorry about the reflection on the picture its actually behind the piece not on it, thanks Sully for a great pattern
  13. Thanks for those kind words Dick, no I don't think this pattern was ever cut, I'm almost done perhaps an hour or two tomorrow and it will be done I found a couple of weak spots in the pattern so far so if anyone else is going to attempt this pattern I can tell them about it so they don't break these parts.
  14. Wow Gabry you do fantastic work, I was born and raised in Holland and started scroll sawing at the age of 6 I belonged to a club we scrolled and carved a bit but the tools you showed us here are identical to the tools we used well 58 years ago Man I've come a long way, Again Gabry your work is unbelievable and you need to show us more, Thank you very much for showing us this fine art of scroll sawing. Its obviously not a dying art.

  17. Thanks for the coffee this morning You know I've discovered that the word retirement really means availability and cheap labour I find myself very busy helping out all my friends as they think I have nothing better to do ( I have a scroll saw you know) I hope some of them may read this, Anyway we all know I have better weather then most of you so we won't discuss it this morning. But it all comes at a cost. Have a wonderful day everybody.
  18. Spirithorse thank you for the translation but really not necessary as I'm a Canadian retired in Mexico but thanks anyway, as there are only 3-4 more cuts trough the weak portion I'm going to tough it out I've marked it so when I come to it I know to be very cautious. Lets just hope for the best.
  19. Looks good to me Frank that nose almost looks Maya don't you think? Nice job though Frank.
  20. As you can see its coming along, I 'm finding it a very testing pattern and I'm sure by the time I'm done with it, with all the cussing there will not be any room for me in heaven. To add to the complication I have just discovered a hole in the plywood you can see it goes from one side to the other but not to the outsides. there was no way of seeing it, I drew a bright orange line with a high lighter so to warn me to use extreme caution when I come upon it.
