  1. I also prefer black for the background because it gives the most contrast to most items. However if you remember I choose red for the last box I made my wife and I think it was the better choice for this one. Like Paul said, if it is for Valentines Day, Red might be the better choice. Use your idea with the paper backer, I like that idea a lot. Good luck, and let us see the end results Dick heppnerguy
  2. Randy, you are truly a man of perfection and you have amazed me with everything you have posted. i too especially like that Len is so willing to be honest with his posts. I believe I could make something intentionally sloppy and the majority of the comments would be positive, except maybe Len's. He would give me some advice and I, like you. am open to them because it is this honesty that helps one see what others see in their work. I do also appreciate that folks are complimentary because everyone is at a different place with their skill levels and everyone can also use encouragement, as finding fault with everything someone does, only makes them not want to post. so I guess it is a two sided coin, Dick heppnerguy
  3. That is extremely nice of you to say the nice words of encouragement to me, but it really is obvious that I did not come close to the cutting job you did with yours but thank you anyway, I will keep the pattern and use it again in the future and with your nice offer, I will pass this on to whoever asks. It is a wonderful group of people here on this site. I feel honored to be accepted by all this group. It is now the first place I go whenever I get on my computer. Again thank you for your kind words and your generous offer on the pattern, both to share and to let me cut it. Dick heppnerguy
  4. I hope this does not scare you, Randy, but it looks like we think a little alike Dick heppnerguy
  5. \Oh, I see, I do not follow her Facebook page, Thanks for posting your reply, Dick heppnerguy
  6. Thanks. some good ideas here. but why buy to practice when I can have a stack of it for free ? Just wondering Dick heppnerguy
  7. Great job on both of these. A pleasure to behold. I really like Mahendra's pattern and well as Ordar's. They both do such a nice job with their patterns. Ordar's as so crisp and clean, yet always look so nice. I can't figure out how the pattern makers can do their great work. We are blessed with a lot of good pattern makers here in The Village, that is for sure Dick heppnerguy
  8. I love it that so many people are interested in making pattern for us that don't do many. Thanks for sharing. I grabbed a copy for my files Dick heppnerguy
  9. It looks way too simple for a Sue Mey pattern. i am surprised I never saw it on her page as I buy from it quite often. Nicely done too so gald you posted it or all of us to see Dick heppnerguy
  10. this looks like a perfect necklace piece. If I was cutting it,I think I would have cut a small circle at eh upper point of the heart for a necklace chain. It sure is a pretty piece, Randy. Dick heppnerguy
  11. Get Paul, I sure am glad you decided to stick with your idea of NOT posting the pattern you were cutting with the flat blades. I would have not enjoyed seeing the mess I know you would have come out with.. Seriously, I knew it would be another master piece, You could probably have painted the church ceiling that Michael Angelo painted, had you been into painting instead of scrolling, and I bet you could have done them with your eyes closed Dick heppnerguy
  12. Paul, I can't even imagine you ending up with a piece that outshines most. you are a true artist, not just a mere craft person like myself, and I even occasionally like something I cut. Dick heppnerguy
  13. Oh yeh that is it DW. I just couldn't think of it. half my brain seems to always be asleep and the other half is day dreaming. Thank. I have never cut it but I have a chance to get 4 X6 foot sheets of it for free, Not sure I would use it though. so I am a little bit hesitant to say. 'yes' to the offer Dick heppnerguy
  14. It sounds like you are on your way to unexpected wealth with all that teak. How about an E Bay account ? They sell a lot of craft woods there. Dick heppnerguy
  15. nice little bank. I have never tried one yet. I do have a free source for the plastic sides though ( i can't remember the name of this material ), part of getting old, i guess. Dick heppnerguy
  16. I have done a combination intarsia and fret work and i am always looking for another to do that way too. Now that I am into learning in-lay I am looking for that opportunity as well. I love the way your piece came out.. You are quite the artistic person Dick heppnerguy
  17. It looks like you got an order for 6 of them.. Way to go. Might need to go back to the shop and start cutting them Dick heppnerguy
  18. Way to go. Keep up the good work. Looks like you have a good grasp on the scrolling thing. Dick heppnerguy
  19. When I saw (Curtisintarsia)'s great Batman cutting on here last week I was excited to see if there was any way that I might be able to use this pattern as another shot with the dreaded spiral blade. So I wrote to him to see if there was anyway that I might get his permission to give this pattern a shot. Well, I got my reply yesterday evening and he sent me the pattern along with his permission to take a crack at it. I informed him of why I wanted it and that I was hopeful to be able to cut the pattern with the spiral blade and my little experience with it and he was gracious enough to let me try. So, I want to thank you, Steve and let you know I am very grateful to you for your permission to give it a go. Here is the results. I have to say that I was happy to get it completed without any breakage and although it is not anywhere as good as the one he cut, I still was happy to find I was able to do as well as I did and feel I am making progress with the spiral, even though it still is a struggle for me. I need to keep trying if I am ever going to feel comfortable with this blade. Dick heppenrguy
  20. I do have a small drill press that works for most of my hole making but once in awhile I can not get to center of my wood to make a hole then I use my Dremel. I recently purchased an add on chuck for really small drill bits but have not tried it yet. Dick heppnerguy
  21. Way to go. keep up the good work and be sure and post them all. I do not believe that i have seen a prairie dog cutting before.. I like it , really cute Dick heppnerguy
  22. Among the nicest scrolling pieces I have had the pleasure to see. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful piece with all of us Dick heppnerguy
  23. Stop it Dan, you are making me want to make some toys now....These are terrific Dick heppnerguy
  24. A simple answer to this question, but I am glad you asked. It is these questions that sometimes answers the same question someone else was wondering and leads to us all learning something new at times. The red is a painted backer board that is light colored board is glued to.the backer board. There is nothing that is not just a flat piece of wood, meaning there are only 2 flat boards and the pattern gives the illusion that it is somehow standing out from the heart. If you like this pattern you can find them for downloads at www.scrollsawartist.com she has some free patterns on her sight that you may enjoy downloading and cutting as well as a wealth of beautiful patterns you can purchase and download in a minute or so. Dick heppnerguy
  25. a great pattern. how could anyone l not like this one. I too am anxious to see it finished. Dick heppnerguy
