  1. Again, I have to say , you are doing a wonderful job. It is about what I have in mind for my new shop area. You are making me think that perhaps I should take my time and do it right. I get too excited to put things in operation and usually end up hurry too fast and cutting corners so things never get to the place I really want them to be. I hope your influence is strong enough for me to do things right this time Dick heppnerguy
  2. I like them.. I have never cut any plastic things myself, but i think I would like to give it a try some time Dick heppnerguy
  3. Good luck. I hope it exceeds all your expectations. I am so glad that i do not do craft shows. I have been able to keep a steady money supply from outside orders to more than satisfy my needs and desires and it allows me to continue to enjoy what i do without he hassle of making a lot of things in hopes for a sale. no packing, transporting or fees to pay..I will be waiting to see you report, my friend Dick heppnerguy
  4. Wayne, what actually happened was I have a double garage that is partitioned off into two equal spaces..i used to park our spare car in one any our daily used car in the other. We also have a large storage building that is 24 X 60 where I also have 2 spare bedroom built for out of town guests overflow when the house becomes full. the other day, my wife suggested that I park the spare car in the big building and use the sectioned off part of the garage for my a separate shop area. I thought that sounded like a great thing and that day I moved my large sawdust producing machines our there and put up a couple more lights. Now my scroll saw room is kept much cleaner and open for my finishing and assembly work with way less maintenance do to lack of excess dust created there. and in reply to your question about heat the new shop area, the answer is no, but it just does not get very cold there, for some unknown reason. we will see as winter sets in though Dick heppnerguy
  5. hey, that is one of the nicest military plaques I have seen.. Is that your personal pattern, or did you find it somewhere ? keep you work coming.. I am interested in seeing what you do with the rest of that wood. Dick heppnerguy
  6. Cool idea.. might have to give this one a try too... you people are putting me way behind at trying to cut all the patterns that I would like to cut.. Dick heppnerguy
  7. I never knew you could sharpen those blades.. I just throw mine away will have to check that out.. Jim, if I wanted to ask anyone about resaw blades, I would ask Jim Finn. He uses his bandsaw to recut almost every day, as he makes those absolutely wonderful and beautiful inlayed boxes that he sell so many of every year. Dick heppnerguy
  8. I have a pretty nice little 16 X 16 foot shop with a small wood burning stove in it so scrolling in the winter is quite nice for me, even when there is snow on the ground and the temperature is in the 20's or lower. but here is the good part. Last week I inherited an additional 12 X 20 foot area to my shop. it is actually two areas that are separate from one another. In my new area I have moved all my bigger sanders, my planer, band saw and table saw. I also have my router and a large compressor in that room. That means all my big dust makers are now apart from my scroll saw area and my assembly, gluing and finishing area. How great is that ? I still need to develop my new area to get it set up as I want it to be, and add some more lighting to it and build me a work bench out there but that will have to wait until the new year as I am very busy with Christmas things right now. so how lucky am I? I think really lucky Dick heppnerguy
  9. Texas Jeff, Let us know what you found out while using the new blade.. My take is, often thicker pieces of wood like you are using can cause some frustrations. If you find that the bottom of your cuts are not matching up with the tops, well that can be a characteristic of cutting thick cuts. it the blade is low quality, or the tension is not really right, or it has some hard grain running through the wood, it can cause the blade to try and follow the grain and not stay where you think it should be.if you are doing a 3 dimensional project and you can not get it to turn out like you think it should, do not be discouraged with it. nest project pick a pattern that uses 1/2 inch or 1/2 wood and you will be amazed at how much better your results will be. what i enjoy cutting most is 1/4 inch BB ply using a #3 or #5 double tooth blade because it turns sharply but is easy to stay in control. Just remember you are doing this to have fun. Keeping things as simple as possible to start with, keeps the smile on your face. graduate to more complex patterns as you find that you are accomplishing what it is you want.. Dick heppnerguy
  10. Nice job Jim, I have been eyeing that piece myself..guess I will have to cut it too. you made it look way to good to let that pattern just sit on Steve Good's page Dick heppnerguy
  11. I get my share of sawdust but I am getting a lot better at keeping things cleaner.. You know what I discovered ? when i drop a small piece of intarsia and my shop is clean, I actually am able to find it again.. Who would have guessed ? Dick heppnerguy
  12. Welcome, come in.. make yourself at home because you are among friends here. take a stroll around the village. stop and say hello to anyone, they will all reply and say howdy back to you.. once you get acquainted but just know, once you are in our flock, there is no getting out Dick heppnerguy
  13. Giving him the plaque made me feel good, Receiving it made him feel good. His response made me feel Great.. If i would have sold it to him as a request, it would have been $25 and a few supplies for me and I would not sell what I got from his response to me for $200. Proving friendship means more than all the money in the world. Dick heppnerguy
  14. Scrolling is for me as it is for so many people here in The Village. Taking a piece of wood and cutting it and making something special for someone special to you, is the thing I enjoy most about scrolling. A couple of years ago, my bride of 50+ years, and myself, went to Germany to attend two different high school graduations of a couple of exchange students we were fortunate to have life with us for one entire school year. The families in Germany introduced us to all their family members as well as many of their friends. Everyone treated us like we were royalty. It the process, I met Andy, the best friend of the father of one of our exchange students. Last year Andy purchases a really nice Ford Mustang and attended several car shows with it. He is so proud of this beautiful American sport car. I saw a photo he posted of it and made an attempt to make a pattern of it and then I cut him a plaque and mailed it to him. He received the pattern today and wrote to thank my and sent me several photos he took of his car and the plaque. I could see it pleased him a lot for me to make and send it to him. A few minutes ago I saw that he posted one of the photos on Facebook, with a nice comment about me. I thought I would share this with all of you, because it is the gratitude we receive when we give a give of our scrolling to someone and see the pleasure they got from our efforts. Dick heppnerguy

  18. Hello Dwayne, I am glad you decided to go back to scrolling, it sure give me a lot of pleasure to be into it. but more than that, I am glad that you found our family, here in The Village worthy of your time as well. We are a pretty friendly batch of people here and love to help each other out in time of need. The secret of all of this success as a family here, is to log on often, that way we all can get to know you and you us. It only takes a short time to get the knowledge that you are at home here and have actually became a part of this world wide family. there are a vast array of patterns to download and cut here. and best of all our members contribute willingly to help build up the variety that exists here today. If you are a pattern maker yourself, we would love to cut some of your patterns too, should you decide to contribute them here. Feel free to explore as much as you have time to traverse through, because there is a whole lot more than free patterns here for you. Check out Travis' great how to videos in the 'university' part of the forum. He does a wonderful job of walking one through a lesson step by step, and at your own pace. Try one and get lost? just go back again until you get it. but if for some reason, you just can not figure something out, just leave a comment or question about what you do not understand and Travis will get back to you until you do understand it. And he does not get upset with you either, I know because it takes me some time to understand things and Travis has a heart of gold and patience of, well a busy doctor.. Dick heppnerguy
  19. Wow that is really scary, I don't know if my brain can function that quickly. But you are right about next year getting close, already. They say exercising the brain keeps it health but i think mine goes and hides under the bed or something Dick heppnerguy
  20. Well, Kevin. It isn't necessary to do this if the bottle is half full or is it have empty ?? Oh well, either way. For me I have had to throw glue out because it gets too dry sitting and so as a result, I just have been buying the small bottles of glue but the great idea of Dirks to just trun the bottle upside down, would take care of paying for the smaller bottles like I do. I could use the same idea for the larger containers of glue also Dick heppnerguy
  21. One of the things that I liked about this idea is it only took about 4 or 5 minutes to make it Dick heppnerguy
  22. I like both of your pieces a lot.. you did a fabulous job on both of them.. great mind, you have working for you Dick heppnerguy
  23. Great idea. when you plan on making several of something, that is a great way to go.. I have only done that on one pattern but now I think I will keep that in mind. Dick heppnerguy
  24. Perfect one... I love what is says.. thanks for posting the pattern. I will most likely be making it before too long Dick heppnerguy
