  1. I did get the approval for this pattern, but sometimes I feel like, even though it was their pick, the end results may not be what they were expecting to see. So just to be sure, before I send it to them, I get a confirmation. If anyone is in anyway, not fully satisfied with something they get from me, I will either refund their money or remake it for them. I do not want anyone to feel they need to pay for something they really would not buy if they were to see it in person. As far as the 50 % up front costs go, I am not worried about that because even if I sent something to someone and I received no pay for it, I am usually out such a small amount of material costs that it would not be worth the hassle to worry about it. So far, I have never had anyone tr to burn me. People are worth way more than the money I may be out if they did not pay me. I do give away a lot of my work to people that I know, of is someone in the community that has a baby or gets married or loses a loved one. When someone contacts me because they are looking for something special to give to a friend of theirs, for the above reasons, I am honored they think my work worthy of consideration but it is a gift from them and not me and they would have purchased something else for them had they not seen what i do, so I do charge them for my work. I respect you attitude on this and I want you to know that I donate to any fund raiser that I think I can help with my scrolling or intarsia. Every year I donate several pieces and volunteer them to people I have not even met. I sell only requests and do not do craft sales or really push my work. I try to only get enough money to buy my supplies so as to not turn my hobby into a work thing Dick heppnerguy
  2. you can find this pattern on Sue Mey's web page at www.scrollsawartist.com She will upload it to yourcomputer in about one minute after you order. Good luck, If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to ask me. Dick heppnerguy
  3. If you really have to have a dot, here is another way. If you are using Inkscape, you could use the circle button and after resizing it, you could drag it in place over the 'I' but leave it partly attached, like I did in the photo. Not the best but it could work in a pinch Dick heppnerguy
  4. That is a real steal. four hours would be worth it to me, if I did not already have one Dick heppnerguy
  5. I had a request from a person for an item do to her loss of you her daughter. (hence the name,'Jewel' on the cross. I was told she and her daughter really liked dragon flies so she wanted something with her daughter's name and a dragon fly combination. This is the pattern she decided she liked, I just added the name in place of some leafy ornamentation. I just send her a copy of this photo for her approval. I hope it works for her Dick heppnerguy
  6. I have a request for a dragon fly piece and I have seen several of them cut, but can not locate any. Can someone help direct me to one' please? Dick heppnerguy
  7. hey, how did you get the photo to rotate, guys... i couldn't figure that out Dick heppnerguy
  8. I have never knowingly had any Hickory and it very well could be.. after sitting for a year or two it looked greenish.. when i sanded it , it turned brown. Is that a characteristic of Hickory? Dick heppnerguy
  9. It is a really quick and easy piece to cut and a decent wood choice would definitely improve this piece a lot. I just used BB P;y because I was what I had on hand with enough width to it. Dick heppnerguy
  10. My daughter also asked me to do a name for the birthday party she was attending today so I found a piece of wood in one of my wood barrels and decided to use it because it has been hanging around here for a long time and thought it was about time I get it out of here. I have no idea what kind of wood it is but it is very hard and heavy. It had a green color until I sanded it, then it turned brown once more. Anyone know the species of this wood? Dick heppnerguy can not figure out how to rotate my photo. sorry. It might be OK for Roly as he is most likely laying on the ground, guarding his beer anyhow
  11. Here is a Steve Good pattern that my daughter asked me to make for her to give as a gift. After I got is finished, I found that I kind of liked the pattern too. I am thinking about making another one for my wife but adding a backer board behind the butterfly and giving it some color. I have a few other intarsia pieces to do first, for Christmas presents. I will not be posting them because they are of a pattern I have already done and posted earlier. Dick heppnerguy
  12. first of all, Welcome to our family. You certainly our craft minded. There are 2 free pattern making items on the lines of photoshop. One is GIMP like you mentioned and the other is Inkscape. Both are easy to learn, If you look in the University tab toward the bottom of the Forum page, you will find that Travis ( our industrious and knowledgeable leader ) has made several tutorial videos that you should find very helpful. should you decide to try one or more of his classes, and they are free also, and have any problems trying to learn something there, just drop him a note and he will get back to you and help you. He is a wonderfully helpful person. Hope this is helpful to you Dick heppnerguy
  13. Welcome to The Village. I too have made several clocks and enjoy the results and fun making them. I have not seen your clock pattern before, but it looks like a fun one to make. I really like your Egyptian piece. The color really makes it stand out. I too am going to go check out your album because I have not a clue what a Dalek is. so I am going for the education as well. Dick heppnerguy
  14. Hi Scott, I too wish to chime in with a big welcome too. I myself have been really busy and away from the computer for most of the month but I am trying to catch up some now. My suggestion is to log on a lot and become familiar with everyone here. I promise you will not regret it Dick heppnerguy
  15. Welcome Bob. I hope that now you have found us an became a member, that you make it a habit to log on often and get to know us better. We are indeed the friendliest people on the planet. We love our world wide family and enjoy sharing our work and always try to be as helpful as we can possibly be here in The Village. Dick heppnerguy
  16. I guess simple pieces like this, no matter how well it is done, is not much of an accomplishment but most of the pieces I make just to add something to my page and keep it fresh in my followers mind, usually surprises me and turns out to be a good seller for me. Dick heppnerguy
  17. the Flooring that i use is a ply based flooring so only the glue in the ply is a concern here. But then everyone uses ply a great deal of the time.. Some of the flooring is a synthetic material that is hard as a rock. i bought some of it because it looked great. was 7 inches wide and on 99 cents a square foot, but after cutting a piece from it, I decided it was not worth the effort because of the material it is made out of, so that box of wood sits under my wood rack and will probably never get used by me. Dick heppnerguy
  18. i was sitting at my computer while thinking about my shop and saw and it started me looking at patterns. I ran across this one I had from Sue Mey and decided that since it was simple and quick on to make I printed it and set out for the shop. A short time later I came back with the finished piece and sowed it to my wife. she liked it so I decided to post it. It should not be in the 'bragging rights' because it is not worthy for bragging about, but it was a fun and relaxing one to cut. so here it is. I used a piece of plywood flooring with a prefinish on one side so all I had to do to finish this one was a little bit of sanding to rid it of the frizzies and then a quick lemon oil on it and 'wham O' , another item for Christmas sales or giving Dick heppnerguy
  19. it seems just like, "what is the best scroll saw blade". I guess you just give it a go and if you think you might something a little better, you try that. When suddenly, you find the one YOU like best. All work, Dick heppnerguy
  20. when I am drilling 1/2 inch or bigger stock, I always only drill about 1/3 rd of the way through and then back out the bit to clean out the hole. I do this about three times as I drill the hole. I can not remember having broken a drill bit in a very long time. It is cheaper and quicker than replacing broken bits. Dick heppnerguy
  21. here is a GOOD idea for blade storage..You will understand the "good" part after you read this post. M and M candies package some of them in tubes with caps on them. They are the perfect size for scrollsaw blades. Never have to worry about the blades falling out of them. The fact that you get to eat the M and M,s make this a GOOD idea. Dick heppnerguy
  22. It amazes me that some people have so much woodworking skills that they even want to try something like this Dick heppnerguy
  23. Kept, A good idea on the Colorado mountains from the plates, but I used this particular set on mountains because the gal who requested it had a travel business and these are taken from her logo, so I thought she would really like that idea. I will keep the plates in mind should I desire to do another mountain themed item. Very nice tip Dick heppnerguy
