  1. I guess the wood pile like everything else...
  2. Gordie, No I did it with a hand held saw. Just joking. I have
  3. Here is a suggestion to add a little difference to the sign with little more work. As long as they are selling then I thought you might want to give them something to choose from.. When you make the backer board for it you might try the washer trace idea. In case you do not understand what I am talking about..... you lay your sign on the backer board material and using a small washer and a pencil you trace around the sign, onto the backer board with the pencil on the inside of the washer and push the washer around the sign with the pencil, drawing a slight overlay outside the sign and cutting it on the new line and painting the backer board and this will give you colored boarder. just an idea Dick heppnerguy
  4. A great idea of adding the pattern to the sign. sure makes for a lot more interest. I bet they will like these two for sure. i am going to keep this in mind for sure..Nice execution on the work. This will grab many eyes and I bet you get some sales out of it Dick heppnerguy
  5. I choose to have the photo taken with me holding the piece so that you can see the size of it. I will be making 2 other ones, one for my son and one for my grandson as a commemorate piece of the great trip the three of us took to Washington DC together the 1st week of May, this year. This is a JGR modified pattern. I remember looking at it several times over the past few years and admiring the pattern with the thought, " I can not possibly make this one", but after cutting my Eiffel tower (3 times), and making the 2 clocks this year, I decided that I am able to cut most things I try. So this is the result of my effort here Dick heppnerguy
  6. I could have used one of those when we had exchange students a few years ago. I remember that I was always asking her what time it was in Germany. For some reason I just didn't seem to be able to keep the differences straight. Do I add or subtract 9 hours ? Now that I have been there it seems easy to remember which way to figure it out. But when our exchange student's sister was in Australia a few months ago it was again confusing because you are 20 hours ahead of us on the West Coast of America. Maybe I need to make myself an Australian timed clock like you did. No. That would probably confuse me even more since I wouldn't know if it was morning or evening there. Or is it just tomorrow there or still today. It would need the am and pm along with the date, oh what the heck now I am more confused than ever and I really do not need to know the time in Australia any more because she is back in Germany again and I do not Skype with anyone on Australia because I know no one there Dick heppnerguy
  7. Roly, you came up with another of you great original pattern ideas. I am always looking for fresh ideas as new things in scrolling make for fresh gift ideas. Dick heppnerguy
  8. I would suggest you go on YouTube there are a lot of good videos there too. You usually can type in. GimpTutorials for making portraits or what ever you are trting to learn. I find Mathis very helpful at times. Hope this helps Dick heppnerguy
  9. I figured out how to work in my hot shop. Years ago I was traveling in a car with no air conditioning and it was over 100 degrees. I stopped at a restroom and took off my T-shirt and got it wet in the sink and wrung out as much water as possible and then put it back on. It was cold to put on at first but to my surprise it kept me cool for more than 45 minutes. The hot the wind was cooled in the same manner as cars radiator cools the heated water from the engine. So......back out to the shop I am heading Dick heppnerguy
  10. I'd take that free beer too as long as it was in an air conditioned bar. At this moment it is 105.8 here. Glad I am in the house with my cool wife Dick heppnerguy
  11. I am in the middle of two intarsia projects and every day by 2 pm by the heat. It has been over 100 degress in Heppner for the past couple of weeks and as soon as my shop reaches 92 degrees, I shut off my saw and go to the air conditioned house with my wife. She enjoys the extra time with me but it sure hurts to leave the shop in the middle of something I know I could have probably finished, had I been able to stay in there and work. It is 105 degrees here, right now .Dick heppnerguy
  12. wow, you built a ship and a bottle from only one little piece of wood, I bet you never thought that was possible before you started scrolling Dick heppnerguy
  13. It is truly rewarding to find out that you can make such wonderful things from a few pieces of otherwise just pieces of wood. Nothing gave my more pleasure than to discover that I too can make things that I had no idea was within my hidden abilities. Way to go... nice work Dick heppnerguy
  14. Using our scrolling skills is a great way to say "Thank you, I appreciate what you have done." That is what I love to do too. I look for a reason to give someone my work in this way. I have always found them very well accepted. Dick heppnerguy
  15. I also have a type 2 and have put a lot of miles on it. I am still very happy with mine. It is a very simple saw to work on. Maybe you might consider checking your local Craigslist. Might come up with something good there at the right price. If you have garage or estate sales going on in your town this summer. you might just want to give them a good walk through. Last year I bought a $1400 RBI for only $65. They could not find the legs to it but I was able to get some from an old table saw stand that worked perfectly for free. So don't give up. Start looking. Dick heppnerguy
  16. Wayne, You are entirely welcome. I always hope that some of my ideas end up helping others. I don't get many but if I really think it might be helpful, I try to share it here. I know I have found a lot of helpful things on The Village for myself Dick heppnerguy
  17. That is an interesting concept. I too do not do very many puzzles but when I do decide to cut one, it is usually from a photo I see on Facebook, Like someone showing their new baby or a special moment in time for them.. They always seem to enjoy receiving them. Just something a little different that costs me very little to make and ship. So I am not really clear on how you paste it to your wood, unless you paste it on the back side opposite the picture.. Thanks for the nice tip.. I hope you see this and reply because I as you can see, I am a little confused Dick heppnerguy
  18. Love the way he makes his patterns. They are really nice to cut and have great eye appealing results like the one you did so well here. Good work Dick heppnerguy
  19. A great Colorado piece. The mountains there are spectacular and this piece fits into what Colorado is all about. Nice work Dick heppnerguy
  20. This is a great pattern and you showed your skills in cutting and assembling it. This is the kind of accomplishments that enthuse ones self as well as those that just get to look at it and drool Dick heppnerguy
  21. Hans. We have all missed you and we are all glad that you are back in circulation once more. now I will need to hold my breath and wonder what you will be displaying next, as I open each and every new post of your work. Welcome back Dick heppnerguy
  22. My thought too was, this has got to be the biggest hazard in the shop...Keep it far away from the table saw before you toofind yourself a member of the fingerless wood worker club. Just joking around.. very cleaver idea.. Dick heppnerguy
  23. I have been on with a hit and miss schedule lately as this summer has been really busy for me. Usually I do not miss more than a day every other week but lately not so. Because I get so far behind now, I skim over the posts and i sure missed your doll furniture. Although I personally am not into toys or doll furniture I don't always read every post I have seen about them but I have to say that I am finding out that I am starting to enjoy looking at what others have done in this area and when i saw these photos of your work, I have to say that I was struck with awe at the nice clean and carefully finished pieces that you have posted here Dick heppnerguy
  24. and me.......I am annoying by nature....I might be guilty...I have a mouth that flaps sometimes before my brain is engaged.. Heck I annoy myself too.. Dick heppnerguy
  25. You must have dust angels that keep you shop clean. All I need to do is step foot in my shop and sneeze and the whole place instantly fills itself with a layer of sawdust. seriously, I send you a big welcome from Eastern Oregon... look it up on the USA map and you might be able to locate our state. Lots of adventures take place here almost daily and now that you are in the loop, there is only one thing you have to keep in mind. that being, log on often and write some comments to other members posts and keep posting your self and you will feel right at home in no time Dick heppnerguy
