Here are some items that I have been working on in the past week or two. As you may recall, I made an Eiffel Tower a few months ago only to discover that after i had it all cut and mostly put together I had glued it wrong and I had to cut it all over again from the start. I did finish it and swore that I would never cut another on of those, but my granddaughter who was so much help to me with my Facebook page, asked me for the screwed up one, which I told her I would not let anyone have and I destroyed it. Well because she wanted it so badly and it is nearly her birthday, I went ahead and made this one for her. We have two weddings coming up soon so the second one is a plaque that is a works in progress plaque. I have never made this one before but I am enjoying making it For the second wedding I have once more cut the wedding cross that I have done for several other weddings the round plaque I cut for two of our friends who had their mother die within the past 4 days I also cut a retirement cross of which I have not taken a photo of, but I will post it when I do, if I remember it Dick heppnerguy

I like looking at your birds. They have the colors to catch the eye too. keep cutting and sharing your work with us. Everyone has a little different things that they enjoy cutting and I always look for things and ideas that I have not cut before. Good job Dick heppnerguy

Clayton, Both projects will attract a lot of attention and should be a big help in the fund raising efforts. I love to donate things for fund raisers. I do several a year. The people are so appreciative of what you give them. I have one that is out there for a fund raiser, I believe is happening this weekend, if i remember right. Intarsia always amazes people because there is so little of it seen by the average public, Dick heppnerguy

I am sorry but the name I meant to write is Jim Finn. He does inlay boxes so his cutouts are meant to NOT stay with the pattern but rather a piece is cut at the same time and a contrasting piece is replaced by the new one.. So you could be correct about the angle being 4 degress, but I know that the advice I gave you above will get you the results you are looking for. Dick heppnerguy

Jim Flynn is the expert on The Village when it comes to this. I am thinking it is 3 degrees that you are looking for. but the thickness of your piece and how far you want it to protrude is what you need to find, if I remember correctly. What I do is take a piece of scrap wood the exact thickness of the piece you are going to cut and practice on it until you get what you want. you can cut a simple adjoining pattern and you will be able to keep the practice pattern fairly small so you will not eat up your board before you find what you are after. the direction of the cut is determines whether your piece will stand out like you want it to or fall out when you are through. Be sure to cut in only one continual direction. If I can find better information I will post it for you.. Dick heppnerguy

Picture frames are the first thing I look for at garage sales and free to 75 cents each is my max. Frames at a nice touch to scroll work. The only problem I find with the frames is that it ads a lot to postage when sending out items. I never add costs for postage to the pieces I mail because I do not like seeing added postage and handling after I find what ses like a good deal until it becomes a paying too much for something when you add this additional cost. I can't remember how many things I have decided not to buy after I had finished my on line shopping. Dick Heppnerguy

Art, I enjoyed your introduction remarks because it sounded like it was coming from me, personally. I too was doing some woodworking that I eventually got tired of doing. My woodworking was not turning but rather with intarsia. I made many annals and flowers and I avoided s ceiling because when I thought of scrolling, my thoughts were if outlines of things that seemed way to basic and unfinished to me until I came upon a scroll page and saw that the scroll saw can indeed produce many things that were attractive to my eye so I thought I would give it a try and see if I too was able to makes the things that I saw and liked. I tried some word art first and was surprised that I could do that. What I first noticed about scrolling was the same thing you seemed to find out. That being, " the instant gratification" that scrolling can give. No shaping or a lot of time that is needed to finish a scrolling piece. Art we are all happy that you liked our site enough to decide there is something here for you. We like to think thre is something here for anyone that is interested in scrolling. I would suggest that you make it a habit to log on often and to post photos of your new endeavor here. The more you log on and make comments on the others posts, the sooner you will find out how friendly the people are here and the sooner you will notice that you are not just a new person here but rather you are 'family'. My home made Complete Dust free!!! scroll saw video

Carl, When you put it that way (one hole at a time) I start to understand your way of thinking. It really is just a matter of recognizing that you have a problem that you want to change and then you first try this ( which is represented by the first hole) , and if that doesn't get the job done you think about a little different approach and try that (the second) hole. "there has to be a better way". and then you try another angle ( the next hole). Eventually you find a way to solve your problem. Everyone has a different way of looking at things so no two people would come up with the same conclusion or way to answer the problem in exactly the same way, but the end results are the same. Six scroller can cut the same pattern and how they go about it will all be a little different; wood choices, blades used, where one starts and ends cutting the piece but the end results will look the same. I guess all this rambling just is mr E trying to point out that 'the light came on in my head' and I understand what you are trying to tell me Dick heppnerguy -
Dedication to perfection. I looked at the first one and shook me head. Unbelievable was the word that went through my head as I looked at the incredible cutting you did here,Paul. It made me go back to the time when I had cut my Eiffel Tower, only to find out after I had it all cut out and mostly put together, that I discovered I had made a mistake that caused me to start all over again. I remember how good I felt about getting it finished the second time. I think that for you, Paul you must have had similar feelings when you finished it the second Time and knew it was indeed right this time. Great job, my friend. Dick heppnerguy

The first piece I ever scrolled was word art and found that I liked it because it turned out well the first time I tried it and I found people enjoyed having the word art. I have tried intarsia, word art, simple fret patterns and as of late ventured into d Some more complicated fret work. I find myself continually learning and pushing my skills. This always pays off for me because by trying new things and finding that I could do something that I had not yet ventured into, keeps me wondering if I too could possibly do the marvelous things I see others doing here in the village. All you family members here, continue to keep me interested in trying something new once more. I may never reach the skill level of so many others here but I will have the satisfaction that because of ALL of you, I Will be finding out more about myself and the possibilities that lay before me Dick heppnerguy

I too use both of their patterns and have quite a few of their patterns in my files. I usually have my patterns from both of them within a couple of minutes. One time I had a problem getting one of Sheila Landry's puzzles to download and I emailed her hat I was having a problem and she called me on the phone and explained that there was a little problem going on with her web sight. I had my pattern within 3 minutes from the time I talked with her. I found her to be a delightful person to talk with Dick heppnerguy

A real engineering feat. I look at the bracket for the light ,magnifying glass and upper blower and that alone is more than my pea brain can comprehend A truly remarkable and extremely well thought out. Thank you so much for sharing all your hard work and well thought out answer to the dust problem on the scroll saw. I hope it helps many others to take care of their dust problem. As for me, I will never be able to figure out this system. Way to complicated for me though Dick heppnerguy -
I just ordered blades yesterday and I was thinking about getting some metal cutting blades so I could cut some coins and then I decided to way until later to buy them. Now this makes me wish I had gone ahead and ordered some. I guess maybe next time Dick heppnerguy

Jim, I am always excited to open your posts and see what new thing you have come up with this time. As usual, you have not disappointed me. I love what you make and it always sparks me to get back to trying some inlay again. I hope I remember your wonderful work and get back at it. Thanks for sharing your wonderful projects with the rest of us to admire Dick Heppnerguy

ducky. Isn't it fun to find out that you are able to do things like cut a photo in wood that actually looks like her person you are duplicating ? Fun and exciting to discover your new found talent. Keep up the good work Dick heppnrguy

When I am putting a new blade in my saw, I always sand both ends of my blade before I put it in my saw. This removes the oil and makes it a little rougher so that it grips and stays gripped even better. This helps prevent the slippage problem that many experience with losing tension in the middle of a cut. If you need a little more help then this, you can also sand the points on the points that contact the blade and hold it while you saw. Dick heppnerguy

Ike. Way to go. Making nice gifts like ghos for your wife to enjoy beats all the pieces one sells at a craft sale as the ones you give your wife are the pieces that are the most fun to make and give. I believe something you make for your wife is more rewarding than anything you could purchase in a store at any price Dick heppnerguy

In the new ScrollSaw Woodworking & Craft magazine there is a nice featured item on patterns making that features our own family members, Homer and Carol Bishop and their wonderful 3D fish pattern. If you ever thought you would like this challenge, the article is a step by step tutorial as well as the pattern for free, in the pattern pull out section. Also the other amazing intarsia maker that is also a Village family member, Mike Mathieu has a half page article about him while shoeing a couple of his highly detailed intarsia piece. You will want to check out his page if you are unfamiliar with his work. He is truly amazing. www.midlothianwoodworks.com And little old in talented me made the magazine on page 25 where there is a photo of the six wedding boxes I made last year for a local gal to give to her bridesmaids. I never thought anything I did would be in a magazine. I feel honored by that. Dick heppnerguy

i am in total agreement with everyone else.. Very nicely done and extremely interesting piece Dick heppnerguy

Paul, That is a wonderful tribute for his service. You can now take a deep breath as none of the pieces fell out. The flat blade you used is my favorite blade for this kind of work. Nice job. Hope to see you before too long Dick heppnerguy
-
All the pieces are really nicely done. I have to add that your wife did a great job painting the background colors. I especially enjoy where she used more than one color to make things stand out so well Dick heppnerguy

Nice to see that we have another person on our family that does se intarsia too. You did a really nice job with it and it makes me want to try that pattern too. I too liked the way the inside of the flower was designed. A rather unique idea. You will make your sister proud every time she shows it to someone. Be prepared to make a few more as she shows this one to her friends Dick Heppnerguy

A truly cute little girl. She has to be really happy to have this wooden portrait of herself. Having just their own names in wood is exciting for most kids but this is over the top. Dick heppnerguy
