Mike I want also to send a big welcome to you. If you find that you don't seem to understand something about scroll sawing that you would like to know. ASK. Then sit back and learn the answer to your question from several different angles.
Everyone has found the BEST blade for them. But the real secret is to log on often and participate with comments on others posts and make posts of your own for the rest of us to comment in. You will get to know us and then you will find out that you too are part of our world wide family and who wouldn't want to not be a part of one of the greatest gathering of such a friendly bunch of people?

My wife suggested the tee cup holders but it think the L Shaped holders are much easier to hang and take off the keys from. They don't hang up on those.

Thanks Spirithorse. I have their catalogue so I can check that out. It is a little rough to work without a pattern
And thanks to all for the nice comments.

A fellow at our local grocery store ask me to make his a key rack. He told me that he wanted it to look like an old skeleton key with no words or anything else on it. He told me the measurements he wanted and how many hooks to put on it too. So as boring as it is, this is what I came up with. Not a lot to look at, but it what he wanted and it was his money,

I was sent a small avatar of something someone wanted me to make for them. It was a very small intarsia piece, so I looked on line to try and find the pattern maker so I could purchase one. I was unable to find one, so I drew one myself and made her what she wanted because it was for a retiring pastor. I could not charge her for it because I made the pattern from the little avatar she sent to me. If anyone knows who this pattern maker is, I will purchase a pattern from them and then i will not feel so bad. I did make a couple of changes to the pattern because I did not like the original, Otherwise it is a copy of their work. considering how I had to go about trying to make this, i think it ended up coming out pretty well.

It really does depend on the wood. I have signed with a wood burning tool. and I have used a paint pen and a thin end sharpie. I would want to try it on a scrap piece before I did it on a finished one

You were on a role.. I am amazed that you cut all those in a day, but it brings up a question in my mind,,,,,,,how did you get by the entire day without taking the time to eat ? There could not have possibly been time to eat that day

Mike,
You talents are blossoming. Good job, It is hard to believe that one can actually cut a portrait in wood, until you try for yourself. This is my goal for the year and it is zipping by me too quickly.. got to make the time to learn more about pattern making

Jan,
i was never interested in making a dinosaur puzzle like yours but now that I have actually seen your photo, I am considering looking into buying some of these patterns

Roly,
I can see you have been busy for the show. I know you will do well , as you have been doing them long enough now that you have a good idea as to what sells and what does not. Let us know how things go for you and get a photo of your both and make sure you are in the photo too, that way new craft show people will understand that the work sells and people will stop at the booth, no matter who is sitting in it.

Ray,
Take a photo of them on your phone and take it to Lowes or Home Depot and they should have them. If not, try looking at Ace Hardware. should not be a difficult item to find

Josh,
Because you are a new scroller and because money is an issue, as it is for a lot of us, I would suggest that you work with BB ply for most of your projects because is it strong and does not cost a lot compared to other woods. I would suggest you use 1/2 inch and if you choose a double tooth, reversible blade about #3 or #5 you will find it rather easy to cut almost anything. I also would suggest that you pick rather simple patterns to start with and you will discover a lot about what works for you. the cost of your projects will be minimal and the success rate should be good for you.. MrsN, if I remember correctly is a woodshop teacher, and she has a lot of knowledge about cutting and using wood. Keep on posting your work.

I have found that harder woods are nicer to work with. Not sure what you are doing with your woodworking as that is truly the factor as what wood you will be after. As far as1/8 inch bob ply goes. It is difficult to cut without a lot of experience but with fret work items, it is sometimes the perfect thickness for certain projects. When cutting 1/8 th inch it is helpful to stack cut and even using a I/2 inch thick scrap piece because it slows the aggressiveness of the cut. A little more information as to what type of projects you are cutting and your experience would help to get a better suggestion onThe wood best to buy. Remember the harder the wood the less aggressive your blades cut and resulting in better control for you. The correct blades for the wood also ales your control a lot better. You can PM if you wish with any questions about this post and I will be happy to share my ideas with you. I am certainly no expert or do I consider myself as a master scroller but I am always happy to try amd use my experiences with anyone that might likey input. Remember everyone has different experiences and any great ideas that I learn from constantly I believe that no one has all the answers but all have some answers. You decide which ones might work best for you. After trying the ones youvwant, you will usually find one or two that you will continue to use and then you can pass your experiences on to others. Good luck. I will continue to follow your post as I just might learn something that will be useful toe as well
I use an awl when I do my fret work. It really helps to make the drill holes easier assessible and I also use the awl to poke out any pieces that stick within the cut out
Kevin, I like to use the smaller drill bits because it helps the bottom wood grains from tearing and breaking the wood surrounding the feet drilled hole
Been busy making orders and had a break yesterday afternoon while waiting for some glue to dry so I decided to cut this giraffe pattern. I thought is was too cute to remain on my 'got to cut sometime' list. I knew it was only about a 20 minute job so I thought I would hammer it out. I think it will sell well on my page as most fun items like this one do. I hope you enjoy it as much as i do. sorry I once again can not remember who the pattern designer is.

Tommy,
Don't ever be ashamed of anything you make or feel inferior here in The Village, as everyone one of us made our first piece at one time or another. I always say that no matter how hard one might make an attempt to paint an oil painting, you will not be a Rembrant at first try. I have been scrolling for a few years and my work does not even come close to what other can turn out with their efforts, but I am not here to compare myself with others. I am just pleased to have found that I can now do what I never imagined that I could have accomplished when I started. Just relax and have fun. Make things for the wife. they always enjoy gifts made just for them. and they way outlast flowers. Hope to see you come back often and always remember that you are a unique person and have the ability to do unique things. Go make some more sawdust...

Well, Bob, you have 10 years on me, as i will be turning 75 in about 3 weeks. I also enjoy my retirement a lot. I moved about 12 years ago, after I retired and had a small shop on my property so i decided to do some woodworking in it. Because of it's size I decided that intarsia would work well there and I did that for about 6 years and then tried scrolling. I liked it even more because I enjoyed the almost instant satisfaction I got doing it. I still do both. I am happy for you that you decided to give scrolling a shot because if it is as satisfying for you as it is for me, then you are in for some happy and wonderful times as you discover how much you can do that you may have not had an idea of the talent locked with in you. Log in often and get to know us all better. It is a great family to be a part of and all it takes is your time here to feel the love and encouragement that flows from this sight
