  1. Hey gang. If you have seen my recent posts with the pattern making and cutting of the word signs that Travis made the tutorials for, then I want you to know that I am kicking around a little twist to it and before I actually make one, I am fishing for some honest opinions as to whether you think my idea is a good one or a not so good or is it a dumb idea ? The idea here is that the large background name would be the schools team name, such as; Warriors.. Bulldogs...Indians, you get the idea. The over riding, smaller name would be the title of the sport, such as; football.. basketball' soccer.. volleyball etc and then the symbol on the left side would be of the sport named on the plaque and the right side being the player's jersey number. So that is my idea here. I would really appreciate your input here.. Should I go for it or abandon the idea all together..YOUR OPINION HELPS ME Dick heppnerguy
  2. It's only a bird cage on a wooden bridge, Scrolled by a friend of mine. For the bird got away and ruined his day now he has nothing on which to dine
  3. I am very impressed, Doug. I could have never done that. I don't even know English too good and you can scroll in Chinese.. You're the man Dick heppnerguy or maybe you have a Chinese scroll saw and it knows how to scroll in Chinese already
  4. yeh Larry, I bet no one else has ever dropped a scroll saw blade on the floor before.. I can't imagine anyone being that careless with their blades.. besides every time i drop my blades on the floor, I don't which one is the new blade and which one is the older blade. so to rectify that problem, I just buy a larger quantity of blades then I really need. Dick heppnerguy
  5. Steve, Even with the protection , you should be able to over ride the program and get the Inkscape program. I have never heard of anyone having any virus problems using this program.. Dick heppnerguy
  6. not a bad idea, Paul.. That is what is so good about this sight. I am always learning new tips.. too bad I am so forgetful and do not always remember them when i should. Dick heppnerguy
  7. Welcome Bob, It sounds like you are 'roll up your sleeves and go for it" kind of guy. I have found using the largest blades you can get the job done with, is best for me because of the fact they are heftier and tent to not be as likely to have a mind of their own. I usually only use a blade smaller than a #3 for very thin and very small fret work. Keep in mind that everyone does their cutting just a little differently, so you are correct about trying different blades to see what will eventually be your blade of choice. keep up the good work and log on often so everyone can get to know you and you can get to know all of us. Feel free to explore everything you can find here on The Village. I guarantee you will be glad you did Dick heppperguy
  8. how true Hans. It just goes to prove that we are all humans and get a little careless once in awhile. If we were perfect our name would be Jesus Dick heppnerguy
  9. Hans, you must not be reading my posts.. I did the same thing on the Bell Tower clock I made for my wife... With that much detail involved, one needs to really double check the pattern sizes before and after they are printed and before they are cut. Oh well, It never hurts to have to cut anything. That is where our enjoyment as scrollers comes into play anyway.. Another wonderful piece in creation from the 'scroll saw artist in Mexico' Dick heppnerguy
  10. Steve, Check out Travis's tutorial, if you have not already done so. They really are pretty easy to do and it takes me about 15 minutes to make a pattern and only about an hour to cut it. All time should reduce as I do them more. I have several ideas for them, Let's see what i come up with next.. could be good for sports, sayings and clever signs, as well as names like I used in this one. Dick heppnerguy
  11. we have a friend who has just sold their house and will be moving to Pendleton, Oregon, the home of the famous Pendleton Oregon rodeo. the symbol of the rodeo is a bucking horse with a rider on it. I thought I would design and cut them a home warming plaque for their new home. Although their name is the same as ours, we are not related. And this time, I think I got it all right. A little more attention to details really helped me. It only took an hour to cut out the sign and the back board. Painting the back board, waiting for it to dry and gluing it up, was another hour. I enjoyed the first part way more than the last.. Dick heppnerguy
  12. I love her signs. I have a couple too. I tried to make a pattern like this and couldn't figure it out. Now that Travis so generously made a how to video I am really into giving them a try.. so nice of you to think about giving it to the Vet's organization. I may make one and take to my next Vets hospital visit. Great idea.. nice job cutting Dick heppnerguy
  13. Paul, If you get lonely, come down to Heppner fro a couple of days.. We would love to spend some time with you. Dick heppnerguy
  14. Thank you I will have to give this a try. Funny thing is, about an hour ago I went to my wood supply to pick a piece of wood to cut my next project and low and behold, The one that caught my eye was cupped and I immediately thought about this post. Because I had not yet seen your reply,Larry, I reflected on my question. Now I can go and give the idea a try. I will let you know, if I am successful. Dick heppnerguy
  15. that looks like a good idea, Jack.. and Larry I too would love to see Hans move out of Mexico and back to Canada, or even Heppner Dick heppnerguy
  16. Thanks for the tip. I know to do that too, but I just did not take the time.. lesson hopefully learned Dick
  17. I wanted to try and make one of these great pattern designs. I have enjoyed them from the first time I saw them and I could not figure out how to design one until I saw Travis's tutorial on it. I was working in a short time frame to finish it on that evening and I wanted to finish it before I went to bed. I got it designed and cut and my backer board cut and painted, leaving only to glue the backer board to the main piece. After I got that finished, I started to take a photo of it when I realized, in my haste that I had not done my First letter correctly ( leaving out the needed islands ) in my first initial of my name. But I wanted to post it here because of the little shamrock addition I put in my design. Just to share this idea with others. May some have done this type of thing but If so , I overlooked it or did not see it at all. so be careful, take your time when making a pattern and check out carefully before you cut the a pattern. Dick heppnerguy
  18. A little bit of my brilliance come into play here, once more..........Which is considered the 'cupped side' ? With the board laying with on a surface does it sit like a rocking chair rocker or it the two sides laying against the flat surface with the hump side up ? Dick heppnerguy
  19. I think that Kevin and Larry has the best direction for you to start trying. Also if you have a bench grinder that will possibly give you some fine tuning. Be careful as the metal will get hot. when sawing it, I would suggest using a vise if you have one. and some kind of pliers of lock grips when grinding, should you elect to give that a try.. A photo of what you are working on, might just bring up some better solutions. Dick heppnerguy
  20. Hans.. I can't believe your dilemma. I am sure if you wished to become a distributor of blades their would a manufacturer who would love to accommodate you. I just do not understand what is wrong with the Mexican mail service. Do you have UPS service there? Maybe that is the way you need to go...I feel really bad for you. I am still willing to buy some blades for you here and mail them to you, if that would help Dick heppnerguy
  21. Hey great question... the answers were helpful to me too. I guess I never stopped to figure out why they put spacers between the board when the are drying. Now I am one more tiny step toward being smart and I always wanted to be that Dick heppnerguy
  22. You say you are not a scroller yet. Does that mean you have a saw but haven't really tried to do anything much with it yet? If that is the case, let us know. We can give you a lot of helpful information to make your new journey much easier for you. If you do not have a saw and you are thinking about buying one, we can help you with that too. All we need is a little more info from you. If you just are interested in seeing what people do with a scroll saw, we have a huge amount of things to see. If you are interested in meeting the best people on the planet, you have found their family, but to get to know them better you will need to log on often and post comments so we can get to know you. Dick heppnerguy
  23. I forgot to mention that this is a Sam Custodio pattern. He makes some really nice patterns, in my oppinion Dick heppnerguy
  24. This reminds my of the caution written on tooth paste tubes. Something like, 'if you swallow any of this product, call poison contol" Not kinding check it out for yourselves Dick heppnerguy
  25. I think you did a splendid job. The more you do, the more natural it gets. If you are married, make things for the wife. Nothing is more pleasing to me than to give something i made to my wife and she is amazed that I can even cut it. I guess I like the appreciation and praise coming from the one person I cherish and love the most. I was never any good at present shopping. Never knew what to buy, now I can give her presents often, this makes me feel really good. Now on to the next project. Don't worry about staying on the line too much at the beginning because pretty soon it will be easy to do. Remember the first time you drove a car. "Oh no, a curve coming up. What if I don't make it around it ?" Now you don't even give it a second thought. Keep making the sawdust and sharing your work. Most of all...keep logging on here Dick heppnerguy
