I thought about the bridge that Hans made and almost suggested that too. They interest me a lot too someday I may take on a bridge. That is a great idea for something different to make.

The melamine idea should work well. Similar to the idea that Kevin used but not as intrusive to the tool itself. I hope to be able to spend some time with you in your before too long and to see how this idea has worked out for you

I am going to make a post in English

I agree with what you say, Len. I would not pick it as an item that I really would like to cut because of all the time involved. And I would stack cut it because I it would make it easier to cut. but I would not lower my price for someone just because I have two cut with the effort involved in cutting it. If I was doing it to sell at a craft show, then I would take that into consideration., but when I am doing a cutting as per a request, i feel I should get what I think is worth my effort to do. If the customer does not want to pay my price then it is OK with me. Besides if I lower the price to say $45, then I might just have the second one sitting around collecting dust and I would probably end up giving it to someone because it is taking up space in my shop. So with that in mind, I would not sell it for less than $85 minimum. I definitely would not quote $45 to cut it. I only sell my things because people come to me and ask me for them. If they don't want something I make for what I ask, then so be it. I do not do craft shows because I am not interested in having things lay around. So I do appreciate your take on my answer and it does not offend me in the least, i am just telling you how I feel about things. Dick heppnerguy -
I too enjoy her patterns and have a pretty good collection of them that I have cut. You and I must think a lot alike. She is one of the top pattern designers going, in my opinion.. You do both her and yourself proud with this piece. Be ready to make more as all the firefighters in his station are probably going to order one for themselves Dick heppnerguy

A great clock. You have done a marvelous job on it. That one is a real show stopper for sure. You must get a lot of oohs and aahs when people see this one.. I love your lights shining through the windows idea too. Nice touch Dick heppnerguy

I don't know about others as everyone prices differently. I was just trying to get some honest replies to compare with.. It looks like most so far agree with what I am charging. i do not do craft shows so I am unaware what others get for their work. For all the work in your piece and the frame counts for something, even if it was free. so If someone asked me how much I would charge to make your piece, even without the frame, I would have to ask about $85 to $100. This will take some time to do and is quite detailed. I also think that I would not cut it twice because of all the effort involved to cut it. I asked $3oo for the clock I posted a couple of days ago. So that is my answer to your question,. Nicely done piece, by the way. Very challenging.. Dick heppnerguy -
Here are four pieces that i had as an order following my clock post. I am caught up in my shop for awhile, i believe. I never know what will get me an order, but these worked this time. I got $140 for these. More wood and supplies are just around the corner. How does the pricing line up with what some of you would charge for these same cuts ? Just curious as to where I am compared to some others of you. It seems that there are a lot of inquiries as to what to sell your pieces for. Am I higher or lower than what you would charge for the 4 items ? The price includes 2 of the 'brave soldier' pieces. Dick heppnerguy

i am happy to report that i received another email from my good friends, Homer and Carol and this time I got a tip on a glue that will come in handy when ever you need to finish a piece that already has a finish on it. I will be investing in this glue for sure and give it a try. I will let you know how well it works, once I have given it a go. If Homer and Carol recommend this to me, I feel extremely satisfied that it is what I will need, even without using it.. it is caller Crafter's Pic Ultimate Glue. Hobby Lobby handles it and it can be found on http://shop.hoobtlobby.com/products/crafters-p-ck-ultimate-glue-461053/ if anyome is interested in looking it up Dick heppnerguy PS Thanks Homer and Carol..... I love this family of ours

I was in my shop working on a project and got to thinking about how much I enjoy being a part of The Village family. I not only find it to be one of the most helpful places on the internet, at least for scrolling, but also I has so many wonderful, talented and helpful people on it, that I think I would be lost if it were to suddenly go away. I have met a few people in person and that has been a real treat for my but I also know that these people I have met will also become good friends whom I would have never known about if I hadn't stumbled onto this site. I also know that internet sites cost money to run and although Travis has never asked for any donations, as far as i can remember, many of us have sent a donation to Travis to help a little with the expense and show our appreciation for all we get out to this page personally . So I would like to suggest that we help Travis with a little bit of help from our pockets. I don't mean that anyone has to dig deep into his finances, no just send the cost of a couple of cups of Starbucks or a couple of packs of cigarettes. surely this sight is worth a lot more than that to most of us. I also know that many of us have donated several times in the past and I am sure Travis was happy to see that we all have done so. If you feel the fun, help, sharing , and friendship you receive from The Village is important to you, perhaps you too might feel the urge to once more worthwhile and will go along with me to send our chief bottle washer a few green backs. I will use my Pay Pal to help me get this job done. So come on family, lets show our thanks to Travis. Are you with me ? To the new comers here, I suggest that perhaps you do not send any support money at this time. This is a free site for all of us to enjoy, and only after you have learned it's real and personal value to you, don't even think about giving anything. This is just coming from my heart because i already know and understand the importance of this site and my friends here and that only comes with being here for awhile Dick heppnerguy

I have used several different brands of spray lacquer and Deft is by far my favorite because it has an adjustable spray head and it sprays very even. I usually spray coats just a few minutes apart.. It seems to work fine for me...might suggest goign to their web site for exacting answers Dick heppnerguy

I got an email from Homer Bishop and he told me that he talked to a friend that made a lot of these kind of clocks and was told that the pieces should be finished before they are glued together and it was his opinion that it would not be a good idea to do any further effort to finish my clock because there was probably many spots where a thin layer of glue had been wiped off the wood and it could easily leave unsaturated places if I were to do anything to it and they would stand out and actually take away from the clock rather than enhance the appearance, With that said, I decided to just leave it be, like Hans did his. I can not thank all of you enough for taking the time to try and help this old man. I do appreciate it a lot. i am going to rack this experience up as a learning one and go on to my next project just a wee bid wiser than I was yesterday, Dick heppnerguy

Ok thanks everyone for chiming in. Maybe this is why I should have an airbrush but they just are too spendy for the few times I would probably use one. ( Not having ever used one, who really knows ). I still do not think I could do a good job with a rattle can and the end results would be that the clock would end up with runs everywhere. the small brush idea would be very time consuming and the dipping would take one heck of a lot of oil. so, It looks like the dipping, small brush or perhaps using a garden sprayer or putting oil into a spray gun is what i will probably end up doing. I do have a pneumatic low pressure spray gun, does anyone think that might work? that could just be my answer.. I have never used tung oil before, would that be my best bet or would a different one be more beneficial ? I also have never use BLO. Any further thoughts there on those two possibilties ? Dick heppnerguy
