  1. who can't love receiving a piece as great and memorable as this one of friends Dick heppnerguy
  2. this is exactly the high quality work of yours that we were talking about over lunch today. Beautifully cut. I love your work pieces. Very impressive Dick heppnerguy
  3. give Inkscape a try. none of those problems. The program is not that complicated to learn the basics and Travis has several great videos in the university part of this forum and they are free. Inkscape is also free. Dick heppnerguy
  4. I am always on the look out to see who might be living in our area. There are a couple of more SSV members in Washington State and a couple in nearby Idaho. So if I am ever in those areas I will try to arrange a meeting with someone. If anyone is traveling in my area, please get in touch. We always have spare room at our house and would love a visit, anytime. I am here to tell all of you, that the people here are even better in person than you would imagine. Larry, I am going to try and arrange for an opportunity to spend an entire day with Paul and learn some scrolling tips from him while I am with him. My hopes is that perhaps we can hold a picnic somewhere near and perhaps some of you might be able to join us. Keep that in mind. Dick heppnerguy
  5. Today was another big day for me. Today my wife and I met up with Paul and Patty for lunch. Paul who is also known as Scrappile on this forum. One heck of a nice couple and I think we will be seeing each other on occasion. So now I have met Travis, Ralph and Paul. Look out all the rest of you, I may end up coming into your life too.. Dick heppnerguy
  6. I also looked at your work very closely and found that you did a fabulous job on it, paying attention so as to make clean cuts and taking the time to clean up all the fuzzies. Continue on with that amount of pride in what you do and you will become a top notch scroller very shortly. It takes some of us a long time before we started paying attention to all the little details.. Thanks for posting and keep up the great work Dick heppnerguy
  7. I like the reflections in the middle one as well as the great background coloring in it. It is my favorite of the three, for that reason.. All your work is nice though. Thanks for sharing Dick heppnerguy
  8. there you go.. lots of ideas.. pick one or two and go for it..I just mounted mine to an old portable table saw stand that my son had laying around. I could not have worked out better if I wanted it to.. Dick heppnerguy
  9. The thing that I like about doing the pattern the way I now do, is I do not need to purchase any further material, like tape (except a small amount for stack cutting ) and it seems to work with nothing more to do but spray glue and stick it on. then a very small amount of the mineral spirits or paint thinner and if almost falls off by itself.. Just seems the easiest and less hassle way to go, to me. I someday will probably try some of the other methods, but for right now, I just can not see any downfall to it..I enjoy the comments and I will keep them in the back of my mind. Hope they don't get lost in there like most of the things I try to remember Dick heppnerguy
  10. You are right, Paul...... we could be doing something sane like..sitting on our duffs and watching worthless TV programs every evening Dick heppnerguy
  11. Through the years that I have sat at my scroll saw, I have heard many opinions on the best way to put a pattern to the wood to cut. In the beginning I used spray clue and put the pattern directly on the wood. Then when I was all through cutting out the piece the battle started as I struggled to try and remove the paper pattern bit that were left adhered there. Then one day as I was reading an article in a scrolling magazine I ran across an article where a guy was describing the use of blue painter's tape directly on the wood and the pattern being put on top of it , leaving none of that awful residue that I hated trying to get off the wood so that i would be able to put a good finish on my piece. I tried it and liked it except sometimes, especially when I was fret cutting small, close together holes, the pattern would come loose. I thought 'It must be that the spay clue doesn't stick to the surface of the tape so well, so I tried a glue stick and it seemed to work a little better, most of the time. I kept a roll of scotch tape handy for those times, but they were still annoying. Then the thought of putting the stick glue on the tape as well as the back of the pattern. That took care of the problem better than anything I had tried so far. I read about using shelving paper to print the pattern on and then using the shelving paper backing to stick onto the wood. it was said that it would then come off fairly easily., leaving no residue. So i bought a roll of it to try. As i was getting ready to cut a piece and put it into my printer, I saw that the paper wanted to keep it's rolled up form instead of becoming flat like I wanted tit o be so I decided against that. so I stuck with the tape and glue stick for a long time and decided ' It works for me". Then today as i was cutting our my latest project I was becoming agitated with all the time I was spending getting the left over tape off my cut out piece. There were hundreds of little pieces of tape throughout each piece, to take off. I remembered that posting about spray gluing the pattern and placing it directly on the wood and when you are finished cutting it out, you take some paint thinner or mineral spirits and lightly dampen the remaining pattern and it should peel right off. What the heck, I told myself, it just might be worth a try and Shazam IT ACTUALLY WORKED PERFECTLY. I cut the next few pieces that way and now, I can not imagine ever doing my patterns any other way.. Dick heppnerguy
  12. It is difficult to be some place and in the back of your mind, all you can think about is that project you are working on, or what the next scroll saw pattern that you are going to cut. I guess I never thought of it as the scroll saw whispering to me, but it does make sense to me. It is sometime hard to not be in the shop. People say they don't see why anyone would want to scroll because it is so tedious But to the scroller it is relaxing and joyful. Nice post, almost brings tears to ones eyes.. Dick heppnerguy
  13. I too am impressed with your work. I can't say that it was that easy for me when I started out but it was still good enough to get me addicted. Andrew, we are all so glad that you found The Village. This place is riddled with a vast assortment of talented and fun loving people. 15. It helps a lot , except it says 'this pattern in currently, unavailable" Now what? Dick heppnerguy
  16. I am trying to find plans to build this world map. I have tried all the information that appears to be in this photo but I can not get anywhere with it. If someone knows where I can get plans to make this, I sure would appreciate the help. I seem to run into a lot of problems with computer search things and often run into a brick wall. I have spent over an hour searching and manage to find this photo but I can never find the plans to purchase. Dick heppnerguy
  17. Darn you,Carl. Now you have placed another challenge before me. I have never tried making anything near that small. Can I do it. Probably not but you managed to cut out some. Nice job. I can not believe my eyes. Dick Heppnerguy
  18. I also like to use blue painters tape on the wood surface. Sometimes I use spray adhesive and sometimes I use a large glue stick instead of spray adhesive. I do not like to have tape on the bottom of my board because it just seems like a lot if wasted time and effort to remove it. I hear a lot about plywood splintering. Here is a hint to stop that. Use the smallest drill bit you have. The ones I use in plywood I just barely larger than the blade I am using. This stops the tear out on the bottom, at least it works well for me Dick Heppnerguy
  19. Well then, I thank you very much for your kind contribution to my pattern request. For those who may not know this. The original picture is the one from the Sacajawea dollar that was issued several years ago in America. Sacajawea was the Native American that accompanied the Lewis and Clark exploration across what would become part of America, in 1805-1806 Dick heppnerguy
  20. I have never heard of that but it could very well be for all I know. Still looking for another piece of it to appear in my woodpile. Dick heppnerguy

  23. Wow. You people really touched my heart with all your really nice comments. From the bottom of my heart I give out a sincer and humbling THANK YOU I love giving my things to others to help them or just because it is a fitting piece that says something special of them. Selling things from my page is just to help me to buy my woodworking supplies and not for the purpose of just making extra money. That is why I do not sell at crafts shows. My first love is to try to give something specially related to that person. When someone really enjoys what I make then I try to find more things just for them. I love that so many of my pieces are hanging in homes all over the world. I do not consider anything I cut to be art but rather as crafts. It only matters to me that I am able to make others happy with what I do for the enjoyment to myself Dick Heppnerguy
  24. Jim, thanks for the information. These people live in my little town of Heppner, Oregon but also have a house in Minnesota where they spend their winters. Kind of backwards form what most people do, They will be back in our area about the end of the month. Missoula is not a long way from my home so if I ever get out that way, I will write you and see if we might be able to meet up. Dick heppnerguy
  25. Terry, Welcome to The Village . i to enjoy intarisia as well as scrolling. I have to admit that I like scrolling a little better because it has almost instant gratification, compared to intarsia. I like your dog pattern a lot. It looks like my wife's previous dog that died at a fairly young age after having her first batch of puppies. When I saw your post my eye caught your piece immediately. I hope you continue to check in often here because you will quickly find out that it is a community like no other. All the people are very friendly and helpful here. The more you log on, the sooner you will become comfortable with everyone and feel right at home here. Check everything out and download any of the free patterns you find that interest you. Please post your work often so all may enjoy what you do. I have one question for you......can you remember where you got this pattern? I would like to make one for my wife.. Dick heppnerguy
