  1. I prefer to use the over lapping method because I like the looks of it better and secondly because it is easy to get aligned when gluing it up. I also keep the tooth picks handy for any glue that makes it's way to an exposed area. to make an easy and even over lap for the backer board, use a small flat washer, put your pencil in the hole of the washer and simply run the pencil and washer around the outside of your piece. Then matching the two layers together is no longer a problem Dick heppnerguy
  2. gad, you guys know everything... I am learning something every time I log on. Just think if I was on here all day, it wouldn't be too long and I would know everything Dick heppnerguy
  3. Looks like you nailed this one. It looks great, Anyone should like this one on their wall, if they were a Marilyn Monroe fan, Dick heppnerguy
  4. thanks for the nice comments. Heppner has only won the state title one other time, however they almost always win their district title. In fact, Heppner high school held the longest district championship title, until 4 years ago when they lost for the first time in almost 50 years, I believe. small towns don't have much for the kids to do, except for the sports programs and Heppner only has an average of about 30 kids per grade. But the coaching is obviously done well. Dick heppnerguy
  5. Way to go.. keep up the good ideas and workmanship, You will be in big demand before you know it Dick heppnerguy
  6. Joshua, I know that when one takes on a pattern that is going to require a lot of time and effort to cut, it seems like the end of the task is always a long time away, but when It finally gets here, you have a feeling of relief that you finally finished it. But it is those projects that also give you the most satisfaction and pride. You did a splendid job, and I bet one day you will cut another of those wonderful train patterns that DonR designed. I makes the pattern maker happy that you chose their pattern from the thousands out there and to see it posted like this has to make them proud as well. Dick heppnerguy
  7. I made some of these trophies to sell on my page because Heppner won state championship this year. I gave them a choice to have their name and number on it if they so desired. I charged an additional $5 for the name and number. I also made plaques for a neighboring little town a couple of weeks ago when they won their district championship but lost at the state tournament, so I changed my offer to 'district champs'. I sold some of those too. I used a Steve Good pattern and modified it for my needs Dick heppnerguy
  8. answer: all you have to do is start out with $100,000. I know it is lame...just couldn't resist Dick heppnerguy
  9. Try not to guide the saw blades by pushing them in the direction you wish to cut but instead move the wood in front of the blade so you are always cutting straight ahead, then the blades usually will not break. Well actually NOT straight ahead because the blades cut on an angle but you will get used to that really fast and you won't even realize they are doing that... have fun with your saw and your projects. Dick heppnerguy
  10. You seem to have a pretty good grasp on your scroll sawing. It is obvious that the bull dog is your favorite dog. Your work is nice and I also liked your stained glass pieces. Dick heppnerguy
  11. Welcome to The Village. I hope you continue to enjoy your scroll saw. The more you use it, the more you will like it. Intarsia is an interesting wood art and not as difficult as many seem to believe that it is. I don't think we have any people from The Netherlands that I know of, but we are all glad you have decided to join our world wide family. Check out our free patterns and hopefully you will find some patterns you might enjoy cutting. I will check out your page and take a look at some of your work. Your English was very understandable. Thank you for posting your introduction Dick heppnerguy
  12. that is a beauty.. nice job.. Dick heppnerguy
  13. Paul. I do have one of these but I have never used it. maybe I will give it a try and see how well it works. I will let you know,if I remember Dick
  14. I have always cut them with the scroll saw but perhaps I will splurge for a bit. They are a little spendy and I do not do a lot of clocks. but what the heck, I have the money so why not ? I am a slow learner, and now I will take one more really slow step and indulge. after all, if the family agrees this strongly on the bit, who am I to hold out. Dick heppnerguy
  15. Paul, You better hope that your wife does not see your post. as getting out of the hole you just dug for yourself, may very well NOT be worth the smiles you achieved with it. I hope it is not too cold 'outside' where you live..Nights are very long when it is Dick heppnerguy
  16. You did it once more. Perfectly executed.. wonderful results Dick heppnerguy

  24. 8. trying to get a few more cuts out of that dull blade, can end up costing way more than the new blade would have Dick heppnerguy
