I got a request for this cross, yesterday afternoon. This is waiting for final approval so I can glue, finish and mail it off. This is another Sue Mey pattern, if any one is interested in making one. Dick heppnerguy

A fresh idea. I always enjoy it when someone comes up with something a little different than I have seen before. They will be brought out every year and displayed in a place that everyone will notice quickly. Be careful, as the family and friends you give them to this year will probably be bringing a lot of requests from the visitors to their houses. you may be spending a lot of time making them for next year as well Dick heppneguy

Hi Pete, It is good that summer is finally over and people are starting to stay home a little more and get out in the shop again. It is evident by the influx of new people to The Village, this week. We are glad you found us and happy you decided to join us all here. We are a very friendly and helpful group to one another. Since you have been making so much saw dust over the past 15 years, we would all love to see a sample of some of the things that you have made. I hope you log on often because that is how you will get to know a little more about our world wide family and give us the privilege of getting to know you better too Dick heppnerguy

Brian, Welcome aboard. I too have done some puzzles and found to my delight that I actually enjoyed making them and giving them away. It is a great way to share a photo of some special time a friend or love one had, or one of their new baby they are posting on Facebook. They always seem to love getting them. I will indeed check our your page. I like it when someone finds a particular things in scrolling that they really enjoy making, like puzzles, portraits, toys or boxes. When one finds' their specialty', they get so good at doing it that they often become the go-to person when one is doing what they do for the first few times, because of the expertise they have developed. Hope you come here often so we can get to know you better Dick heppnerguy

John, Welcome to The Village. Like has been said in the previous posts, we have answered a lot of questions here but we all are still learning from each other as we go along. If you are married, give gifts to the wife, they love it when you are thinking about them. Check out our pattern library, I am sure you will find many things to cut, and remember that Christmas is just a little way off and homemade items can be so personal. Everyone loves the personalized gifts from someone. If you find you are having any kind of problems with your cutting, your saw or finishing a project or attaching or taking off a pattern, fire that question out here and you will find an answer, probably several of them awaiting you, probably on the day you ask it. But you can't get your answers unless you log on here often. But that is to your advantage because that is how you discover you now have many new friends, that you probably will never meet but will come to like and look forward to chatting with them. In case you did not know it, the correct blades is one of the biggest factors in being happy with your cutting results. DO NOT USE THE BIG BOX STORE SCROLL SAW BLADES as they are incorrect. Ask if you do not understand this. Hope to see you around here often, perhaps daily. Dick heppnerguy

I too wish to welcome you into our open community of scrollers. There are people from all over this globe that are very active here. That is the secret to feeling a part of our family. be active here. There is a large assortment of things posted here to help you, should you desire to use it, and we all hope you will. Not only all the free patterns you are welcome to download and cut but ' the coffee shop' is a fun place to hang out and get to know the people here. You will also find a lot of good information on making patterns and much more in ' the university' tab in the forum section. it is all up to you, how involved you wish to become. Many of us spend at least once a day in The Village. So relax, read all you want and pop in on the forum and let others know you enjoy their contributions. There are several good pattern makers who love to share their talents with you, should you ask, and make a pattern for you if you are after something special and can't find it. Just a post of your cutting and a 'thank you and recognition for the pattern maker is all they want in return. So how can you lose? If you find you are having trouble understanding how to do something here, like post a photo or answer a post, just ask. Your blades seem to be jumping all over your pattern and you can't seem to keep on the line ? Ask what you can do to fix that problem. That is one of the things we all here enjoy about our family, we can and do help one another. What is the best blade to use for a particular wood ? You might find that sort of question, quite interesting and informative, as the answers may vary a little, but non are incorrect, just different strokes for different folks. Like do I like Ford or Chevy? Log on often and we hope to get to know you better, real soon Dick heppnerguy

there you go. You have now heard from some of the experts with spiral blades. I too do not like spiral blades for several reasons but i do go to them from time to time, and I am getting more success as I do. I can not imagine ever using them as my ' go to blades", but who knows? I find myself doing new things all the time with scrolling.. Good luck with your spirals..One thing I learned on this thread is, it is not wise to push your spiral blade life time, change them often Dick heppnerguy

Scott, you have your hands full trying to keep up with a wife that is focused on her scroll saw. The sawdust is flying at your house.. Good thing you have a computer or you would only be findng wood for your wife to cut. I am going to give you a Hint; Tell your wife that the woman on The Village are very friendly and want her to join in and become a member so they can get to know her better. Then once she gets on here, she will indeed love the members here and while she is on the computer, you can jump on the scroll saw.. As long as she is engrossed in her scrolling you might as well sit at the computer and chat with all of us. We would love that Dick heppnerguy

A big Welcome to you, young man, ( I have a couple of years on you ) Like Ralph said the most important part of scrolling is having fun. My advice, had you asked for it, would be to take it slow and easy. don't try too difficult of a pattern at first. Learn about the importance of the blades you use, It is not speed that counts but a steady, accurate cut get the job done. If you have any questions just fire away. there is a lot of experience here and everyone is friendly and we love to help one another. Just when someone thinks they know everything about scrolling, a question from someone is answered and 'what the heck?, I did know that, happens. Log on often and it will be a short time and you will understand what this family is all about, because you will soon discover that you too are part of our world wide family and if you are short on friends now, you won't be for long. Check our the many areas of this sight. Download all the patterns you wish to and contribute photos of you work and see how many people love what you are cutting. Hope to see you around here oftern Dick heppnerguy

Charles Dearing Turkey.......Gobble Gobble.....Finished.....
heppnerguy replied to Scrolling Steve's topic in Bragging Rights
Steve, With this wonderful piece, you have moved into one of 'my favorite scrollers'. What an undertaking. I feel I have accomplished something when I did my Eiffel Tower or the fret clock, but you have put me back in perspective with the knowledge that I have a long long way to be on a scale that would put my work a level of yours. But I am a slow learner and feel I am doing a little better all the time, so let this be a warning to you to KEEP UP YOUR WONDERFUL WORK, or i just might creep up on the scale where you are... I have found that spray gluing my pattern and putting it right on the wood surface, with not tape of any kind, is by far the fastest and easiest way to both apply a pattern and when removing it with mineral spirits. If you have a fret piece with lots of holes and small pieces of wood, this is, for me. by far the easiest way to get this job done. There is NEVER a strain on the tiny items of your cutting. No tape to tediously remove by hand. It takes less than 15 seconds to remove a pattern and only about 3 seconds to put one on. By the time I was able to place on strip of blue painters tape on my wood, I have the pattern in place and ready to drill and cut. Faster than peeling the pattern off, when done and then removing only one fragment of painters tape from the cut piece, I am finished with the removal part. So much time and effort saved. I am so glad that i tried this method of pattern placing and removal. Give it a try, I am sure you will like it Dick heppnerguy

here is a Camaro I cut yesterday as I was waiting for glue to dry on an intarsia piece I am making. This pattern was one I got from here and had the pattern maker's name on the pattern, but the signature used on the pattern is difficult to read. I tried to find it this morning but was unable to . I like this guys patterns a lot because they are easy to cut and yet nice to look at. If you can remind me of his name I will edit it onto this post. the pattern maker is Odner. I believe he lives in Turkey. https://www.facebook.com/OndersDesignthis is a link to his Facebook page Dick heppnerguy

It is something you do not need a pattern for, all you need to do is cut something even close to the design and it will work. I did attach one anyway Dick heppnerguy

Sorry for the misreading on my part. some people do not understand the 'sale of someone else's patterns", I was just trying to give you a heads up. i need to be more careful when i read someones posts..I apologize once more for my error Dick heppnerguy

could it be made from one piece of hard wood ? Dick heppnerguy

Gator, Your usual expertise comes through once more. I love your idea with the heart/hands plaque. fun pieces. I too love trading my skills for other peoples. I got my bushes trimmed for a couple of easy wood pieces for a birthday gift.. worked for me Dick heppnerguy

I like you hen and Rooster. I would have charged about $45 each for them. Good thing is, They do not cost much to make. so you really are not out that much. As far as selling the buffalo pattern... can't do that.. I would suggest you make a piece for someone for Christmas. Patterns can only be sold by the pattern maker. Dick heppnerguy

When I was in grade school I used to make these and amazed my friends with them. After I had them balance a belt off the end of their finger with one of these, I would give it to them. They loved them. I thought it would be a fun item to have in a craft show booth to attract attention and get people to ask about them. You could sell them for 1 or 2 dollars each, or give one away with any other purchase or just give them away free. They take about one minute to make and you can get some out of about any scrap wood you have laying around. It should be at least 1/2 inch thick. you can make them almost any length up to 4 inches and down to 2 1'/2 inches, if I remember correctly. You can experiment for yourselves. A wide belt works best. Just something to think about , Many of you probably remember having them as a kid Dick heppnerguy

great pattern and nicely cut. Simplicity will do the job every time. A perfect sign for many to want Dick heppnerguy

the first intarsia I ever saw was when a lady had a booth of intarsia dogs. I could not believe my eyes. doing different dogs will always sell because people love their animals so much and if they see one, they have to have it Dick heppnerguy

Another fresh idea comes to light here in The Village.. I am afraid my light might be burned out or at least mostly dims because I have a really hard time coming up with new ideas. It is sort of like writing a song. There are new ones daily but for me, all songs were written years ago, as I certainly could not think of a new tune on my own Dick heppnerguy

It took me awhile to figure out the first coin. My eyes were leading me in the wrong area and could not make out what it was, then all of a sudden things came together and Wham-oo I saw the skeleton face.. fun pieces Dick heppnerguy

I like the detail you put into it. When someone goes the extra mile on a project, it gets noticed. Dick heppnerguy

Edward, some times the up hill battle is against a really steep hill and it takes a lot of endurance and continual effort to reach the top. Sounds like you are doing things correctly on this one. Good to hear about your progress Dick heppnerguy
