  1. The person that contacted me told me a little bit about what she was after. I asked her to draw mean example, even if it was like a 1st grader drawing. She wanted the layout to have a heart on one end of it and the mountains, ( because of Colorado being in the Rocky Mountain chain), on the top of the plaque, then she drew in the name and date she wanted to include. after a couple of tries, we achieved her desire. She was interested in having the plaque with a white background and a brown colored face. After i got it cut and was ready to glue it all together I thought the piece would stand out a lot better if the background was black instead of white. So I snapped a photo of it in my paint booth and showed her the 2 different ideas. she immediately decided she also liked the black background. so here is the results of our combined efforts. Happily she was ore than delighted with it Dick heppnerguy
  2. Here are three ideas that i came up with. none of these are truly frames but they give you sort of an idea of a frame. not sure any of these are suitable for what you are looking for but you I hope they might spark an idea for you to come up with Dick heppnerguy
  3. An amazing effort to take on, making a wooden scrollsaw. the video that Larry posted is one that is worth looking at even if you have no desire to ever try making a wooden scrollsaw yourself. It is amazing to watch Dick heppnerguy
  4. i have a difficult time believing that the motors are the problem. I would take the saw apart and check the rest of the inters of it and see if there is a problem with a breakage in there that is causing the motor to strain too hard and low a fuse. Also I would do as Kevin suggested and take the saw to a totally different part of the house that is on a different circuit all together and try it there. perhaps there is a week GFI in the line you are using right now. Just a suggestion. I have had my saw for over ten years and I have never experienced anything like this Dick heppnerguy
  5. I like what Pete did. I would use a piece of BB ply the thickness needed to fill the hole perfectly, then you only have one thing to deal with instead of a spacer or washer type thing too. If the only thing you find that will work is a little too thick, I would cut it to fit and then put it in place and stand it until it was perfectly even with the table, that is my take on this problem Dick heppnerguy
  6. Ward, Welcome to The Village. It appears you have discovered that scrolling is something that must have been hiding inside you and you have finally found this secret talent you have. Keep at it, only excitement and fun lay ahead for you.. Explore this sight well as there are many secret awaiting you here as well Dick heppnerguy
  7. Well Josh, as you can see there are a lot of different ways to attach a pattern to wood. Allof them work and it is a matter of preference, this you learn by trial and error. I used blue painters tape and a glue stick for years and thought it was the best way there was, at least for me. a few months ago I started using a spray glue on the back of the patterna nd then putting it directly on the wood. when I am finished cutting my pattern I use a small sponge brush dipped into paint thinner and paint the moisten the pattern completely and wait about 15 seconds and the pattern falls off in one piece, I then take a clean rag and wipe the moisture from the wood, If however I find that i used the spray glue to generously and there remain a little bit of stickiness on the wood, I simply dampen my rag withthe paint thinner and wipe away the residue. you need to let the finished piece dry before you sand or finsh it. I have found that Harbor Freight sells a spray glue in a large can for under $10 that works really well, it is made by a company named CRC. It is cheaper than the other glues mentioned above and I have found no fault with it at all Dick heppnerguy
  8. Ron, I am glad you found us and logged on. take a good look around and start with ome rather simple patterns for awhile, otherwise you could get discouraged rather easily. enjoy the tutorials that are here as well. and as others have said, ask questions if you don't understand something or are just curious. We are a helpful and friendly bunch of people here and love to share our knowledge when we can. Log on often. Dick heppnerguy
  9. It is a free pattern. I will PM you and see if the one I am talking about is the one you are looking for Dick heppnerguy
  10. Marge, Nice sign. They must raise chickens. I have a niece that has chickens and loves them to pieces. Nice balance with everything on this one. Fun to create your own designs unless you have a hard time getting the people to agree on what you show them. Some of the time it takes more time to find out exactly what they are after then it does to cut and finish the project. Because of that I prefer to cut from a pattern whenever I can Dick heppnerguy
  11. Here is another idea for ornaments. A couple of years ago I made ornaments for all of our family gifts and put them on their packages in place of their name tag. That way they all received a little personalized extra gift Dick heppnerguy
  12. Kris, This gives cutting silhouette on a new interest level. You have taken it to a new level and it will look amazing hanging on the family walls for a long time to come..excellent job Dick heppnerguy
  13. Great puzzle cutting. I just read your post I made about cutting puzzles and then seeing this wonderful one that you cut. Ottis a very ambitious puzzle, to say the least. I have never taken on one anywhere near this ambitious but your makes me want to . Hope to see more puzzles from you Dick heppnerguy
  14. Actually, I cut all my puzzles free hand too but I just did not like the way that I have seen as examples of how to cut puzzles and decided to try to come up with an idea that might work a little better for those that are not comfortable with puzzle cutting free hand. I have not made a puzzle for some time but I enjoy doing one when I see a photo on Facebook that I think the one that posted it might like a puzzle of it. It could be a wedding , vacation or a new baby. Just a fun unexpected gift that costs me almost nothing to make and mail to them Dick heppnerguy
  15. Not at all.. Your piece is very well done and your colors are perfect. But glad you liked what I did. I really like yours a lot. I love it when people are coming up with here in The Village. It always makes it fun to log on here Dick heppnerguy
  16. Something's I choose to keep to myself. My first wife was so amazing, I thought a few more would make my life a little better and beings that I am extremely rich, it was easy to get others to accept my offer to get married. It is all about money, I guess but I also decided that if they wanted to marry me, they had to be smart too. So you see, having a group of smart wives can be a real advantage. Besides look at all the extra tax exemptions I get too. Now that you have read all my BS, the truth of the matter is, I guess I need to go back and read my posts before I actually make the post. But knowing me as I do, that probably will not happen either Dick heppnerguy
  17. Hope thing go perfect at the doctors and thanks for the press and seal idea. My wives are smart. MY wife seems to come up with alot of great Ideas too. Not sure where they all come from, but I will tell her about the press and seal and she will surely remember it when the time to use the idea comes around. I would most likely forget it by the time I would need it Dick heppnerguy
  18. Sounds like if you want things to continue as normal, one needs to not put changes in their lives.. Maybe you should go back and see if you can get your job back. Just kidding, I have been retired for 13 years now and I am loving it. Once I learned to slow down and relax, that is. What a story. I too am glad you are fine. Any more exciting stories come your way. be sure and let us hear them too Dick heppnerguy
  19. I just saw a video on finishing and it talked about BLO. They said to wait 5 days after applying it to do final finish because the final finish will not adhere if the BLO is not completely dry. I have never used BLO so I am just passing on the info I saw. Dick heppnerguy
  20. I made this for our doctor as he always wears a Duck strap to hold his personal ID around his neck. He is such a great guy and I thought about the little Oregon Duck I had made earlier and since this is a gift and not for sale, I decided to modify the previous one and this is the end results Dick Heppnerguy
  21. DW. Thanks for the link. I am ordering one of these books today and this will be the scroll items I will be giving for Christmas presents this year. So perfect timing for me. I have made some bowls myself, but not quite like these. I can't wait to get started. You have truly inspired me with this one Dick heppnerguy
  22. A novel cut piece and I loved the history lesson. I have not heard of him before and enjoyed reading your descriptive piece on him. Fish always does such a fine job on his patterns they areal lean and nice to cut while giving you just the right amount of detail to make it jump out at you Dick heppnerguy
  23. I have found that for me I am able to cut straight lines quite well. At first it was a difficult task but now it seems that it is just another cut. I think that using a double tooth blade may help to achieve a straight line cut because they are really non aggressive blades and are quite controllable. Give those a try and see if that helps you as it has me Dick heppnerguy
  24. I have not been on my computer much lately as we have had a lot of family things going on lately. I did not know that you were going in for an operation but I am glad to hear that things apparently went we'll for you and you are now on the road to recovery. Be sure and don't over do things. Healing takes time. I know you will be fine before you know it. Good luck Dick heppnerguy
  25. You have a tough request. I went on Google images and typed in People figures made from driftwood. And I could not find anything that worked out well. Sorry hope you find something Dick heppnerguy
