  5. Have you read "Lonesome Dove"? I finished my 4th reading of it last night... Emailed my family and told them when I die I want my copy of the book in my casket with me.... They all agreed it was not a problem,,,, they could do that,,, when??? No "Grandpa, or Dad... you have a long time to go... Just "okay we can do that,,,, when?" True story... I had a sister-in-law that always said, when she goes, she wanted a porkchop, in one hand and a lily in the other to go with her... My brother honored her wish when she died...I ask no more... By the way,,, in every reading of "Lonesome Dove",,,, Deets and Gus died.... I cried just as hard each time I read it..
  6. Watched, isn't the "packet" type of marquetry? If so it is the easiest example of it I have been able to understand... And for the small stuff like I would do,,, my wife has a kitchen thingy to vacuum pack items to freeze.. I really think it would work for something like that....I don't know, but I would think so.. ho hummm I ordered his book...
  7. Great job... I am sure she will love that,,,, My grandson is also going to the university of Memphis...Don't know if he has been on campus yet.... seems all of his classes are Zoom classes. Maybe I should cut something like that for him. Tell her is she runs into a nice looking guy name Benji Douglass,,, say hi to him... He is a good kid...
  8. @heppnerguy Never heard of that game. What is it called.... I am a total loser when it come to any games.... My daughter, her husband and son play lots of games together...
  9. Very nice cuttings... One of the reasons I like this mini series so much, is, I read the book first, then the mini-series came out... The series followed the entire book almost perfectly, and the characters that played each part were perfect choices... I can think of no one that could have been a better choice for any part..
  10. WOW! Great Pattern and great cutting and finishing.... Be very proud, you have every right...!
  11. Another great piece!!
  12. Great piece... You did good Grandma.
  13. I really like that. Nice cutting.
  14. great job!
  15. Congratulations on your new saw.
  16. No real knowledge do I have,,, but it a person got into real intricate marquetry, like the designs on furnisher, jewelry boxes and such,,, I think the chevalet would be the thing.... I would just like to build one,,, but if I was to go that far into marquetry,,, well it would have to be my main hobby and I would need some schooling.. You know, like this kind of art:
  17. To my knowledge there is no "marquetry group". There are some very professional marquetry people on Lumberjocks one teaches and has a school in San Diego. Lumberjocks is where I first started getting interested in marquetry. This is one:http://thecanadianschooloffrenchmarquetry.com. There are others...
  18. I have wanted to build one,,,, even have the plans for one somewhere, but I figure, that is for serious marquetry,,, I'm talking serious... If I went that route, I would want to go to school for it, which at my advanced age, is not feasible....or affordable. I follow the marquetry guys on Lumberjocks.... they do some amazing work.. @octoolguy received, my book today... I paid $8 for it off Ebay... said in good condition... looks new... I have done real well on ebay for books and magazines... not been disappointed yet... Tomorrow, the one I thought I had will magically show up right before my eyes!!! Oh well I bought it off ebay also and didn't pay nearly new price for it.
  19. Sit back, get lots of popcorn,,,, it is over 6 hours long... it is on youtube. netflex, hulu...
  20. Glue the piece back in,,, little sanding and no one will be the wizer... That is a big project!
  21. Oh, oh... I am not trying to convince anyone of anything... just pointing out what I have learned from what the vendor says... I have done it both ways, loose and tight... to be honest, I think with it loose, I broke more blades, but with it tight I still break some blades... I have figured that on most saws, when a blade gets dull and old it just doesn't cut good anymore.. On my Hegner, when a blade get to the point that I think it is old and tired and I should change it soon, it will shortly break. Kinda like my Hegner is saying, "enough is enough already,,,, give me a new blade....!!" Yep, my Hegner talks to me...
  22. Well right after I made my last post quoting the info on QuickClamp, I thought that could be interpreted two ways so I emailed Advanced Machinery and asked... This was the response I received a few minutes.... (the kind of service you get from them), "[email protected] 12:57 PM (2 hours ago) to me Needs to be tightened down. The blade is held differently than it is in regular clamps which hold blades at the tip of the 'V' and pivoting would actually be a disadvantage and cause earlier breakage."
  23. Bill, this is a quote from Advanced. Machinery about the Quikclamp. The regular clamps need the wiggle room, not the Quickclamp: "Use the QuickClamp instead of a standard blade clamp at the upper end of your sawblade, and align your blade instantly! A positive stop helps you put your blade in the same position every time, and the easy-grip knurled aluminum knob places pressure directly on the blade for slip-free tightening. Unlike the standard HEGNER blade clamp, the QuickClamp is designed to be locked into place in the upper arm of your HEGNER saw at all times. And since it doesn't require a wrench, it's super-fast to release and re-tighten for speedy blade changes, especially for frequent inside cuts! The QuickClamp is supplied complete as shown, and accepts all blade sizes." I took this to mean it should not have the wiggle. hummmm, there are two way I can interpret this, I took it to mean it would be in there solid,,, no wiggle. I know in the manual it talks about backing off that knob a little, with the regular clamps, but you don't remove the regular clamps either... What say you other Hegner owners?
  24. WOW! after viewing this post, I just read this a few minutes ago.... https://www.newsmax.com/us/mcmurtry-lonesome-dove-last-picture-show-obituary/2021/03/26/id/1015308/
  25. Nice cutting of old Gus. Probably the best western ever made.... I have watched it, maybe 12 times,,, I have a "Lonesome Dove" weekend every few years. Just about to finish reading the book,,, for the fourth time.. Only book I have ever read more than once.
