    Dan, I think you are on to something here, very clever. Don't know if I can explain this but you could hook the chosen letters together (make it easier to hang on the wall or sit on smething) by gluing a rounded piece of wood along the bottom of the letters to makes it look like they are sitting in a holder like in a scrabble game. Make any sense?

    Yes, all good advice. The only thing I can think to add is, when buying the small bits (I use #63 through #71 mostly) the advantage of buying them from some place like Mike's or Sloan's is you can buy specific sizes and you can but them in bunches. These small bits break, so it is worth buying a dozen or so at a time. If you buy a set you will probably get some sizes you will not need or use.

    Glad you joined us. A drywall finisher, you are an artist. I have no talent for that and the one thing I hire out when I need it done. When I built my house that is the one part I hire someone to do for me. I hung the drywall, but I knew it would take me months to get it taped. Took the guy I hired 2 days to do the whole house.

    Thank you all for the very nice comments. Merlin, this piece was only a little over a 1/4" (6.35mm). Most slabs I have seen on the internet are around 19mm or thicker. I like to work with somewhere around 10mm.

    This is one I started in early October, then got side tracked doing the Tawny Eagle one. I just went back and finished it. I have always loved the scrolling done in slabs of wood, that included the bark and all. I have never found a supplier for the slabs that I could afford. At a carving show I went to this summer I did pick up this piece of basswood for $2.00 that was somewhat like what I wanted. This is a Mike Williams pattern. Reduced in size around 50%, but one of my favorite patterns.

    BEAUTIFUL! I never had the opportunity to get any of his patterns. I wish he wouldn't have gotten into difficulties and was still doing patterns.

    I have also wonder if black walnut can be bleached. I like the darkness as it is unfinished, but I know if I put BLO/MS on it it will turn twice as dark. I know because I saw how dark it was when I wiped it with MS just to clean the sawdust off.

    Thank you,,,,, I think If someone has the patience to cut several less detained patterns, why not one larger detailed pattern. It is all one hole at a time. Thank you all for the nice comments.

    Dick, sorry I had to miss the opportunity yesterday. It would have been fun. Let's make it happen after the Holidays. I'd still like to see Heppner and your workshop also.

    I did not know that, Spirithorse. Must say thank you Mr. Buzzelli for allowing the magazine to publish your great pattern. I notice he is even from the same state as I am.

    MikeWix posted his Eagle back on Oct 21 and when I saw it I knew I had to do it. I had a nice piece of black walnut, which I used, and maybe that was a mistake. It would be way too dark if I put a finish on it. So I will not. I will probably always wish I had used a lighter wood. Anyway this is my attempt. The pattern is from the "Scrollsaw Wppdworking & Crafts" magazine issue 60.

    Really nice display case. I need to make one. My son retired from the Navy in Oct. He sent me a flag to store for him. He was given the flag that flew on the base on 9/11/2001. I hope I can make something as nice as that.
