  1. I've had that same problem. I attributed it to a couple of things. None of my router bits are what I would call top quality so probably not the sharpest. The other is my inexperience with using a router and probably either going too fast or too slow. But, I think in your case, you have a dull bit. Try taking a stone to it and see if you can put an edge on it. If we were a bit closer to each other, I'd let you borrow one of my bits to see if it made a difference.
  2. The benefit to buying the Pegas is that it has their great blade clamps already on it and you would have to add them to anything else you buy. And they are worth every penny.
  3. If you want to spend $700, why not just step up and buy a Pegas? That way, everything is brand new, and you get the Pegas blade clamps which are well worth the$100 that get for others to upgrade to. And you get a warranty. The Pegas saw has already become the "go-to" in that type of saw. I have 2 EX's from the good years and if either of them ever quits, I'll step up to a Pegas for sure.
  4. At the cost of gas, even that might not have been a good deal. Just sayin................
  5. I have two EX's and neither are replaceable but I don't worry about it because I don't ding them up.
  6. It is interesting to look at many of the scroll saws that are pictured over the internet and see how chewed up that insert gets. I really don't get it. If the blade is set correctly and tensioned correctly, there is no reason for it to get eaten away. At least yours is replaceable.
  7. No, it's a "bacon lover's" thing. You have to make your own.
  8. Congrats Ralph, you did good and he got a very nice saw and stand.
  9. I like bacon ice cream.
  10. Congrats on the new saw. You'll love it.
  11. Thanks Cashew, I'll check them both out. I have 4 Clapton cd's and I put them in my player out in the shop and just zone out to the blues. Great music for working. Ooh, I like that J.J. Cale. I just downloaded it.
  12. I sold my rebuilt type 1 with the stand I made for it to a young lady for $325. I started at $350. It was a very good saw. Your price with your stand would be in the $350-400 range. At least around where I live.
  13. Cornwell Tools are the oldest in the U.S. One year older than Snap-On. Mac Tools started in 1935. You are right about how they are sold. Only from trucks but if you want to buy them, it's not difficult to contact a dealer through the company at Cornwelltools.com. They are priced fairly. Snap-On has gone out of sight for price. And a good share of their tools are made either in Canada or Mexico. I started out with them in 1970. I went to Mac in 1991 and then on to Cornwell in 1998. Cornwell was/is the best company of the 3. Matco is the one I'd stay away from. They make nothing of their own. Everything is like Sears/Craftsman in that they put everything out to bid.
  14. My youngest son has followed in his old man's footsteps and is proudly selling Cornwell Tools. Their first line hand tools are all made in USA. Their toolboxes are all made in USA. They sell a lot of Milwaukee power tools and my son says they are top quality. The many tools that they sell which are not made by Cornwell are made in many places but all are top quality. Cornwell Tools is still privately owned by their employees and sold on trucks owned and operated by licensed dealers. If you want to be your own boss, I highly recommend the mobile tool business.
  15. It's late but not TOO late. If we all make the effort to buy American we can do it. I know what it's all about trying to save money. I'm retired and on a fixed income but I still TRY to shop for U.S. products. Heck, I even have 2 American cars and an American motor home. I really try to shop U.S.A.
  16. I guess if you are making a lot of large fretwork or portraits it would matter but for what I make, I have no problem with the short table.
  17. Well, I realize it has taken 40+ years to get us to this point and it will take as long to wean us off the Chinese stuff but we have to make an effort if we want to keep this country going.
  18. To me nowadays, everything sounds expensive. Fixed income sucks!
  19. My wife and I are trying very hard to not buy Chinese goods. It's difficult but we only do it if we can't find a U.S.A. made equivelant.
  20. I use a program called "aTubewatcher" to download videos from youtube to my computer. After downloading all 4 of them I used Windows MovieMaker to stitch them all together into one movie. I referred to it often when I had my 788.
  21. You might consider "shopping" around for a better price Les. There has to be more than one motor shop. Or another idea is to put a "want to buy" on eBay with all the specs of your motor and sit back and wait to see if one comes up. I see lots of old parts on there all the time. You could build a complete "old" bandsaw from parts on there but it would cost a fortune to do it that way. Worth a try though. Send me the info and I'll see what I can find.
  22. Congrats on your new saw. If it's half as good as my EX's, you'll love it. I'm curious though as to why you opted not to buy a Pegas. Any reason?
  23. Welcome to the Village. As said above, there is a mountain of knowledge here. Just ask and you will be answered. This forum is very well attended at pretty much all hours of the day. Also, I know for me, and I'll bet the others too, would all like to see the chess set you have spent 5 years working on. Pics make all things believable. Glad you found us.
  24. There is definitely a need for both saws. At some point, I may look around for a small Hawk but it'll be after our move, If that happens. Still up in the air. For the foreseeable future we are sort of grounded until this stupid covid thing is over. I suspect that after the election, it will disappear as fast as it appeared. JMHO.
