    Now you guys have me thinking and what you say does make sense. I'm wondering if there might just be a tiny bit of slippage in the clamps that allows the blade to "bow" a bit when the tension is removed. I'm going to have to really watch and see if that is the case. I have been cleaning the ends of the blades because I have noticed that my newest batch seemed to have more oil on them. I haven't tried sanding or roughing the ends but it may come to that. I know some here do that as a general rule. I've never done it but it may just be that the Pegas clamp screws are just too shiny/slick to hold the blades firmly.

    I'd be interested in knowing what the differences are between the G4 and an Ultra. I have a 226VS Ultra and for the life of me, I can't see what the difference is between the two other than looks.

    Kevin, when I built the stand for my EX, I incorporated a hinged table top so that I can put a block under it and raise/lower the saw to whatever angle suits me. Every once in a while, the block seems to self adjust and it gets a tad off kilter. When it happens, I get a droning sound out of the saw that must be similar to what you heard. After I straighten up my block, it goes away. I'm going to make the block permanent one of these days. It's always something.

    I've got an EX21 that was built in 2009. I bought it used. The table has very minor scratches in it. I do as Kevin said. Johnson's paste wax will keep it looking new for a long time. It's sort of like the first scratch or ding in a new car. You hate it when it happens but life goes on anyway. Congrats on the new saw. Have fun and use the heck out of it.

    Kevin, it only seems to happen when changing blades. I know what you are talking about so I always try to take the "slop" out of the linkage before tightening the clamp screw.

    This won't be anything new to you more experienced scrollers but for those newbies and oldies like me, this is newfound info. I had read about doing this somewhere here on SSV but had never really done it until today. I had installed a new Pegas #5 MG blade and tensioned it the same way I always do. But something was just not right after cutting for just a short bit. The blade was acting funny. So, I released the tension lever and the blade had a big arc in it as if it was too long. So, what I learned is, install the blade, tension it, run the saw for a minute or so and then retension it. I was amazed at just how much the blade had stretched. When I install a blade, I always pull down on the upper arm and then tighten the clamp screw. Then pull the tension lever to apply the actual tension. This is the first time That I have ever noticed the stretch in the blade. Amazing.

    I wonder if there is any difference in the clear tapes out there. I use some very heavy duty tape but I know there are other brands that are much thinner and they may not have as good of adhesive. The best I ever got was a 6 pack from Costco that was 3M and I don't recall what mil it was but it was really tough stuff. It might be interesting to know what tape everybody is using and maybe that's why they are having trouble with it. I also burnish with either a good piece of hardwood or a credit card. Of course the hardwood works the best.

    I agree on this Paul. I only use the clear tape on 3-D cuts to hold the cut pieces together and I also get dust under the tape and it can obscure the pattern lines. The thing I hate about using it is it gums up my saw table. I keep it well waxed but I still get adhesive build up around the hole in the table. I've learned to live with it and just use a plastic scraper to scrape it off every once in a while. I bought a red plastic scraper at Home Depot years ago for some reason and I found it really works well on the table of my saw.

    I like your idea but one thing comes to mind. If it is "too" enclosed, it will hold the heat in and not allow the vac to "breathe". It is recycling it's own air and it will continue to build up heat unless you have some sort of vent system.

    I very seldom break a blade. I tension my blades by the book that came with my EX21. I have the Pegas clamps and that determines how much tension is applied once you level the upper arm of the saw. I tend to use a blade far too long before retiring it in favor of a new one. Kevin, you are right. The Pegas blades do keep on "tickin'" longer than any other blade I've tried.
