  1. Help me! I'm sucker bait for these kind of things. Please, tell me why I should or should not buy this. I know it's an artist's easel but it sure looks like it could be used for maybe drafting or pattern design or ?????? For $28 it just looks too good to pass up.
  2. Do you by any chance have a picture of what you are talking about? It might jog someone's memory. I'm too new here to recall. Approximately what time period were you here?
  3. After seeing your finished project, I'm so humbled. You are talented and I can't wait to see what you come up with next. That rose is beautiful. What wood is it made of? Cedar?
  4. I'll give that a try.
  5. I here ya but after living here since 1948, we've never been near a fire, never even had cracked plaster from an earthquake. But, we've experienced the horrendous stop and go traffic on all the freeways. There is no getting around that. So, we don't go anywhere. And that's fine with me. Now, if we still had our RV, then we'd brave the traffic on a night escape and be outa here for a while. I've been to Michigan and it is truly a beautiful place. For about half the year. Thanks, but no thanks.
  6. Thanks for posting your great experience with buying from a place that I recommended Paul. They are a great source of scroll wood and if you need something not offered on their website, give Chris a call and he will do his best to help you out. I'm very lucky to be within driving distance of Cherokee Wood and I enjoy going there. I hope others will give them a try.
  7. Thanks for posting this. I'd sure like to find a source. I don't want to buy a "kitchen's worth" to make one small plaque.
  8. I think I'd leave it the way it is. I think it sets off the whole thing. A border without being a border. I like it fine.
  9. I feel bad for all of you folks. I'm a wimp. I'm uncomfortable if it's below 65. I use a very small electric heater in my 9x13 shop. I keep the door & window closed because the ceiling is actually the aluminum awning and has plenty of vent holes. I inherited a small window a/c unit that I'm going to put through the wall for the "hot" months. My body thermostat has a comfort range that gets shorter every year. I'm old!
  10. I loved it too. My youngest son and I built a layout many years ago. Took up most of his bedroom.
  11. Is there anything you haven't been into? Now it's model railroading? I thought I had too many hobbies but you have surpassed me.
  12. Ok now you have my mouth watering for some really good black licorice. I've been on Nutrisystem for a couple of months and I'm about ready for a "fall off the wagon day".
  13. My question is, now that he has it, what's he gonna do with it? My wife would never put it in our living room for sure.
  14. Do you recall where you found your material? I have not contacted any kitchen installers yet but it seems they may be the only ones who have any. Unless you want to spend $500 or more for a sheet of it. I would love to find some in the colors and sizes that I need but I think I'd have better luck finding snow in the Sahara.
  15. Not at all Les, your idea and suggestion is right in line. I like the idea of your drafting board. What thickness of Lexan did you find? Where? How much? The point about the gluing is something that I hadn't thought out also. I wonder if super glue would work. Oh well, it was just an idea that I came up with for a house name/number plate that wouldn't be bothered by the weather. Not that we get any here. LOL.
  16. Yes, but my wife says she ain't goin' nowhere. Too old to move again.
  17. Well, the two sources that were listed are no longer available. I'll keep looking. I'm going to try to find a countertop installer but to find a solid white or red might be asking too much. Maybe I'll just buy a couple of the UHMD cutting boards instead. Much cheaper.
  18. Since my dream is to live in Tennessee, I love your plaque. Great job.
  19. It seems like they did mention a supplier but the article was written back on 2001 so who know about whether than supplier is even still in business. I must admit that I haven't tried them yet but I'm going to right now. Thanks.
  20. That's beautiful. You are well on your way. Great job of cutting and shaping.
  21. I bought Lexan at Lowe's and they would cut it for me. I used it to make screen door covers for RVs so we could leave our main door open and still get sunlight without the breeze/wind.
  22. Well, just remember that most of us here on SSV are males and we see what we see. lol
  23. I got the idea after reading the 2nd issue of SSWC that I bought. There is an article about cutting Corian and they said exactly the same thing that you just said. Thanks.
  24. I'm thinking about making a house sign with our last name on it out of Corian. I was thinking about using 1/4" in two colors and doing an inlay of our name. Anybody done anything like that? I'd be interested in knowing what you think and whether you had good or bad experience with it. I think it might be kind'a fun.
  25. Randy, that's exactly how I did mine with the exception that I don't use a coin. I use one of my many 6" pocket rulers that I used to give away for free on my tool truck back in the day. I can control it better than a coin with my stubby fingers. But, your method is the best way I have come across. Great minds and all that stuff.........lol.
