    Compound cuts are not difficult. Make sure your wood is square on all sides. Make sure your pattern is attached square to the wood with dotted line on the correct edge.

    I use a 2x4 on edge. I have no idea the degrees.

    Les, I think it's a complete dust collection unit with tiny vac and a dust deputy type of cyclone.

    I tilt my EX. When I built the stand for it, I hinged the top so I could tilt the saw. i find it easier on my neck and shoulders.

    Actually, the only time I ever really needed a 12" miter saw was when we installed wide baseboards and 5" crown moldings in our home. Prior to that I had a 10" Makita. One of the first miters ever produced. Now, I have that big heavy 12" saw and it hurts my back to get it out. I think I'm going to sell it.

    Just the ability to keep your workpiece flat and level makes it easier to control. The marquetry project I did, If I recall, was done at 8 degrees of tilt. It did feel weird.

    I agree completely. Over the years I bought and wore out many laptops. Other than the first one, that was purchased through my parent tool company with their proprietary software loaded, I bought all others through Toshiba's refurbished program. I never had one problem. Refurbed products have been completely inspected and reconditioned and usually with full warranty.

    You'd be surprised at how many places without electricity still use treadle sewing machines etc so finding a belt should not a be a problem. Have you tried just doing a google/bing search?

    It's going to be rough getting any feedback on Hercules as they are so new. But, I've had great luck with H/F power tools. I always bring one home and do a complete check out and over. If anything is out of whack or wrong, back it goes for another one. So far, all I've had to return was a biscuit joiner. It was sloppy loose so I got one that is really tight and it works great. I wish I had room for what you are buying. I'd love to replace my 12" Dewalt compound miter saw for something smaller and lighter weight. I'm thinking about one of the H/F 10" saws.

    I like the Pegas/Excalibur tilting mechanism better but I have no personal experience with the Seyco. The Seyco probably has the best customer service of any of the saw mfgrs.

    Paul, you are probably correct. I can't recall what my Hegner table was made of but it was mentioned above that it might be iron. I do remember that it was heavy as heck though. So, if a magnetic sheet won't stick how about a piece of laminate with some double stick tape? Or ever 3M 77? It could be removed with a heat gun when the time comes.

    I think putting a magnetic sheet on the table would solve all the problems and give you a zero clearence at the same time. If I ever have that problem on my EX I plan on doing this.

    @Rustynail, I just checked out his videos and he pretty much uses the same technique that I learned. Thanks for the tip. I will use what I learned when doing inlay. What I came to realize is that once you have a completed marquetry panel, you have to find a project to use it on. I think doing inlay on a box or a bowl bottom is more useful. It's the technique that counts.

    The day I bought my Bauer, I used it for a good 2-3 hours. I burned through a package or more of paper. So, I figured that was a pretty good test. That's before I posted about it. I wanted to use it first. But, it looks like this is just one of those times that we will have to agree to disagree. Furthermore, are those Bosch refurbs always available or just once in a while if you're lucky?

    I'm really sorry you had such a bad experience Kevin. I guess I've never had the fortune to use a really high-end sander. Years ago I had a very nice Dewalt but it got sold. I, for one, think the Bauer sander is just as good as my Dewalt. But, if I was sanding 24/7 I might have a bit more discretion too. For $25, I can put up with it.

    I agree Kevin but we all know how cheaply things can be mass produced now in China or some other 3rd world country. Just saying.
