  1. Dewalt is steel. At least it's as heavy as.....
  2. My thoughts exactly Les. Dave must never sleep.
  3. Wow! Dave you are The Man! I am humbled by your fantastic talent. You should be doing classes. I would certainly be one of your students. Awesome display.
  4. Looks good Les.
  5. I like the uniformity. You were lucky enough to find/buy 3 drawer units all alike. Looks great. I tried to find baby food jars. I went so far as to put an ad on C/L asking for them. I didn't get one response except to be asked what I was going to do with them. Don't people feed babies anymore?
  6. That's strange. Mine shows no wear at all. I bought it used and have used it some myself but it still has the entire finish. I do wax the heck out of it.
  7. I was lucky in that when we sold out to go full time RVing, we literally sold everything or tossed what didn't sell. What I have now has been accumulated since coming off the road 9 years ago. I haven't bought any nails. When they move an old home out, I get the chance to grab what is left behind. Unfortunately, I have the "packrat" gene and can't stand to see anything go in the trash if it might be useful in the future. Especially if it is wood. But I think it is time to put a lot of it in the dumpster. What brought this subject up was that my oldest son came across 6 plastic parts cabs that all had bits and pieces. None of the cabs matched. I honestly don't think they ever made two alike. Except for H/F. So now I have those 6 cabs to contend with along with the 3 that I already had. Maybe it's time to sell out again and go out on the road. Best 3 years of our 50 years together.
  8. I like all that stuff too. I just don't need nails. You want them? I've got a bunch.
  9. I too have nail guns. That was not really my point though. I think once you get to where I am, you will possibly think the same way I do. The last "carpentry" I did was to build the shelving up high in my shop. I used Simpson joist hangers and screws. No nails. I hate nails. If I make a mistake, I can "unscrew" what I did and do it over. I did have a feeling that you were younger than me. As most of you folks are. There are only a few folks here that are in my age group. So, please excuse me for being "crotchety".
  10. I think you are very special. I'm 76 years old. I live in a retirement mobile home community. I have nothing to build nor do I have any desire to build anything requiring nails. But if I did, I'd invest in a framing nail gun. I'm happy for you though.
  11. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but I can't get screws to hold in MDF. I'll stick to using good plywood.
  12. Really? In the 1060's? I recall that commercial but I'm not that old. I'm only 76.
  13. Well, what I should have said is, other than finish nails, that is. I haven't used any carpentry nails in a very long time but I have boxes of them. Everything that I have cluged together has been with screws. I never could drive a nail straight. My Dad always said it was because I'm wrong handed.
  14. Wha the heck happened Paul? That hand looks bad.
  15. Does anybody still use nails. I have boxes of different size/type nails that I have acquired over the ladt 10 years. None that I have purchased. I honestly can't recall using a nail in a very long time. Other than a nail gun nail that is. I think what I have is headed for the dumpster. I know I have way too many odds and ends. I guess I need to dump what I have and start over.
  16. Les, I know exactly what is meant by "which twin has the tony?". I'm old.
  17. You are probably the smartest guy I know. Unfortunately, I'm a bit "scottish" when it comes to spending money so I always save everything. And you are so right about spending time hunting for something that you just know you have somewhere. Oh well.............thanks.
  18. Ok, here's another topic we can all agree to disagree on but it will be fun to see how everybody does it. I have two 40 drawer parts cabinets that I bought at H/F and a much sturdier 16 drawer cabinet that I inherited from the guy who lived across the street from me. My son just acquired 5 more small parts cabs and brought them to me full of mostly junk stuff. The unfortunate parts is none of these are of any sort of match except for the two that I bought at H/F. I got to wondering how you all have your stuff organized. Nuts, bolts, screws, etc. When should you draw the line? Who wants to go first. Pictures would be greatly appreciated.
  19. Congrats on your new saw. You will love it. I also did the Jim Dandy as Kevin did. The Dewalt is a great saw for the money.
  20. I guess that would something to take into consideration if we were ever going to move somewhere else. What kind of tv/internet/phone is available. How much and how fast? We also subscribe to Netflix, we have Amazon Prime and Acorn and Britbox subscriptions. We like the quality of British tv shows. They are far better than the stuff we get here on broadcast channels. Now, if you go to the cable channels, everything gets far better. ShowTime has some of the best stuff going.
  21. Kevin, it's all a part of our package. We are tv freaks. We watch a lot of tv. So, with that said, we subscribe to Verizon/Frontier and have everything they offer for tv. We have a landline phone and high speed internet. All for only $190/month. I have to fight them every 12 months to keep the price down. This time, we locked THEM into a 2-year deal. So no ups for 24 months.
  22. More than likely it's slow wifi/internet. If your computer used to function ok, I'd think it's slow internet. Try it late at night and see if it is better. The more folks online, the slower it is. I have Verizon FIOS 100/100 and it's fast. My laptop runs Win 10 and is an I-5 processor with 8 gig of RAM if that tells you anything for comparison. I had absolutely no pausing or stops. It ran smoothly all the way through. If you have trouble, just let it load the buffer while you go make a snack or something.
  23. I have chatted with a few of you folks about finishing and for the most part, I learned a lot. I even went so far as to buy a recommended book on the subject. I got part way through it and fell asleep. Sorry but, it's boring stuff. Anyway, after once again asking the questions about finishes and finishing, I did a search on Google regarding the sources for buying different products. In doing that I came across this video on the finishing process and all the different types of products out there. It told me so much and added to what I already had learned here that I just had to pass the link on for others. This guy knows his stuff and even does a question and answer thing toward the end. I hope you find it as informative as I did. https://hwcdn.libsyn.com/p/e/e/3/ee31d705ecc2a5f0/107-OilBasedFinishBasics.mp4?c_id=7419263&cs_id=7419263&expiration=1556742326&hwt=6f7965ee02669eecfd12ddb58ea47395
  24. Go back and watch the video all the way to the end. He pretty much addresses that issue. And my shop vac is the 14 gallon so it is a bit wider base so I know mine won't be top heavy. This is the best configuration I've come across.
