  1. You're not late, the party is just starting. But, the cake is almost gone. Thanks for the thought.
  2. I don't know if I should ask this question here as I don't want to hijack the thread but it's a related question. So, here goes. I have Irfanview on my computer and every time I try to download a new font, it is automatically opened by Irfanview. I went into the file association menu and unchecked the TTF files but it still defaults to Irfanview. What am I doing wrong and how do I change it? There is no "install" option when I right click on the icon on my desktop. I'm confused as to what changed. I know it has to do with some setting in Irfanview. For some reason, Irfanview takes it as an image and when I click on it I get an image of the font and all of its styles. Edit: I uninstalled Irfanview then re-installed it using the download for Windows 10 64 bit. At that point, I was given the option to pick and choose file types. I selected "images only" and finished the install. That did it. Now, when I download a font, I get the Irfanview icon with the TTF file name and when I right click I get the "open with" option. I select Windows Font Viewer. That opens an image of the font properties and I get the "install" option. So, I figured it out on my own. Happy Birthday to me!!
  3. Have a wonderful trip. Enjoy your time with family. We have very close friends who live in Eastern Tennessee and when we visited there, I fell in love with the place.
  4. Rather than replying individually, I want to take this time to say "THANK YOU!" to all of you who have wished me a Happy Birthday. It truly makes me feel special. You have no idea how much I appreciate the "family" here on Scroll Saw Village. Thanks for your friendship one and all.
  5. That sure looks like it.
  6. Have you looked to see if yours is available as a replacement part?
  7. Paul, I bought it from eReplacement parts but I just checked and it's no longer available. At this point, I have no real need for it. If you think you might need it I'll send it to you. I think it cost me about $10 w/shipping and all. Let me know. I think we might better know what model vac we each have. The hose fitting might be different since they discontinued that part. My vac is the early one that was made in Italy. I can't come up with the model number right now but I will.
  8. I don't suppose that anybody ever came up with the idea of scraping the rust off a small area and then painting it? And then most to another small spot. There is the right way, the wrong way, and the "military" way. Every time.
  9. I completely understand Jerry. I would stick with them too if they were a bit closer to me. But, if you are ever in the need for another source, give them a try. I am going to check out Sloane's too. I have never looked at them. And as for cancer, we just learned last night that we lost a very good friend from the dreaded "C" word. But, on the bright side, many more folks are surviving it now than ever before.
  10. Around the ocean, a person can't stand still for fear of corrosion. I can feel it happening right now.
  11. Thanks, I'll go from there.
  12. Now, picture a guy with 25 more years on his 220 lb. frame crawling under his saw to do what you described. My saw is between my workbench and the wall and in a corner to boot. So far, I only notice vibration on the Hawk in the upper RPM ranges. If I stay in the "7-9" range on the dial, it purrs. I haven't done any lube work yet with the exception of the rear tension lever/wedge/arm. I was going to ask you about using some of my Howes oil on the bearings. Do I need to do anything to the bearings on the drive arm coming off the motor? My saw was built somewhere between 2001-5 and sat for most of those years since.
  13. Kevin, I'd be interested in knowing what "adjustments" and "tuning" you are doing. If you don't mind going over them, maybe some of us would benefit.
  14. I see a "dead horse" laying in the road. And a guy beating it.
  15. JT, one thing I want to reply to. You mentioned my name so I took notice. When I made that statement, I wasn't referring to folks who tried to make a hobby into a business and failed due to the lack of business. I was referring to the folks who are too successful right off and find that they now don't have the time to do the things they enjoyed in the hobby because they are mired under the work that people want to be done. So, they become overwhelmed and are no longer "enjoying" what they do. I know that what few projects I have completed so far have been fun and enjoyable. But, if I wanted to try something else but couldn't because I had to finish up a dozen of that original project, the fun and enjoyment would go away very fast. I do see what you and Kevin are talking about and that is not what I meant by "failure".
  16. Ok, I missed that. I did wonder why you asked though. If you find cause to come visit me, we will have a good opportunity to sit and drink coffee. Or whatever your beverage of choice may be. I hope you are happy with your order. Did you order enough to make the shipping charges worthwhile? Please let me know how it all works out for you.
  17. Jerry, give Chris a call and tell him that. Remember, it's a website that is managed by a 3rd party. At least call him.
  18. So far it's all been red oak, walnut and mahogany. But this time I ordered 6 different species. All 1/4" x 6" x 60" for the baskets I make. Cherry, poplar, mahogany, walnut, padauk and maple. They cut it all into 10" lengths. Nice stuff. With tax, shipping it was going to be $124.95 but with the discount it was $105 and change.
  19. Kevin, I can't begin to tell you how many of those I've sold.
  20. I just went through this with Hawk I bought. I used a very flat sanding block with 220 grit paper. It came out great. I waxed it with Johnson's and it is very smooth and slick. No sanding marks or swirls.
  21. I was going to go pick up but by the time I compared actual cost to UPS, with gas close to $4 a gallon I opted to let them ship. I saved the wear and tear on my car and didn't have to fight the stop and go crowded freeways. They try very hard to keep shipping costs down. Give them a try. Call and talk to Chris. If you want custom cuts, no problem.
  22. I know I posted about this company last year but every so often there is a new batch of scrollers who need a good source to buy wood from. If you are like me and live on the West side of the U.S. there are not many places to buy from. It seems like everything is East of the Mississippi River. I just received my latest order from Cherokee Wood Products in Upland, Ca. They even have a "scroll saw wood" listing on their webpage. A very nice young man by the name of Chris is in charge of their online ordering. He had a question on my order and took the time to call me. I placed the order last Friday and just received it today. Can't beat that for getting it out and shipped. I checked my email today and found that they had sent me an email and for no reason at all, they credited my credit card for $19.95. Just because they felt like it. So, I hope you will give them a try. Here is their info. https://www.cherokeewood.com. Once you get there, go to "woodworking supplies" and the scroll saw wood is there. Click on it and start shopping.
  23. Deleted. I went back and re-read your original post and answered my own question. Sorry.
  24. Congrats on the new saw. The Dewalt is a great tool.
